DOOM |OT| Rip and tear, until it's done

Having a blast with the single-player but the invincibility frames on glory kills keep screwing with me. Most of my deaths are coming right at the tail-end of the glory animation, where I get nailed by something before I even have a chance to move (and I'm playing on Nightmare where taking one hit does big, often fatal damage).

Glory kills seem very useful on the higher difficulties both for the health pickups and to conserve ammo, so you're encouraged to use them. I'm happy to see they don't hurt momentum as much as I'd feared, but it's hard to know when to use them safely when taking one random fireball knocks out 70% of your health, and you don't always know where every enemy is. They'd feel a lot more comfortable to me if you were still invincible for a few frames after the animation appears to end.

I still don't think it's really great, but I'm starting to come around on the multiplayer. I don't care for the loadouts or progression system, and I wish it was more of a true arena multiplayer game, but the more I play the more fun I have.
MP is just... Fun. I don't know how people say it's "horrible."

I just ignore the progression system. I don't even customize my character (although I like being showered with rewards each match). I just treat MP like a glorified rune challenge with human AI and more weapon options. It's a lot of fun double-jumping all over the maps and rocket-launching people in the face. :)

The
Icon of Sin isn't just referenced, it actually shows up later in the second hell level.

You can even
shoot a rocket into its forehead and trigger a Doom II-themed easter egg.

Also, does anyone else get the feeling that
the titan's remains are actually those of icon of sin from Doom II?

Every time i go to the 40$ season pass page i SMH as it seems exclusively for multiplayer. They fucked it up real bad there lol. If they were smart they'd announce equally good SP content being bundled in the pass, or make a SP expansion pass or something.

I'm sure the ecstatic reaction to SP hasn't been lost on id.

After "finishing it" I've been going back into each chapter to find the stuff I missed. Some of these level are large and I'm not using a guide. I would like to save mid chapter, like you can during normal play, and resume later. Unfortunately you can't, but luckily it does save that you collected stuff.

Such a great game. I just wished it would have handled this and warning you about no return spots in the map better (this is one reason i'm replaying chapters).

Agreed.

I hope they do an SP addon that's kind of like the ODST for this game, where you get to play as some much more fragile regular soldiers on their mission to
get the sarcogphagus that the Doom slayer was in and get it back to Mars
.

Obviously I also want more of the regular gameplay.

Ironically, the ODSTs in ODST are actually tougher than the Master Chief in Halo 3. You can survive a Beam Rifle shot on Heroic (or was it Legendary?) in ODST, but not in Halo 3...

June 12th, the day id decides to announce new non-SnapMap singleplayer content for D44M.

Okay someone needs to help me out. My progress on Mission 2 is halted because I missed activating the security station somewhere?

All I want is a SP add on where Doomguy
is stuck in hell or in one of Mars moons, he needs to return to Mars only for the game to end that he gets to earth

Man, once you get the super shotgun and the gauss cannon, thats gg for the rest of the game on UV. Nothing can touch you, and if they ever do, you got not one, but two panic buttons, plus power-ups that instantly refill your health, glory kills, pick-ups everywhere...

Yeah, i can see how this game must be kind of easy for a very experienced fps player but then you have the even harder modes if you're really that good.

The important thing is that the game is super fun even at those times where you feel overpowered. At least I'm having a blast!

Also, loving the platforming sections and secrets in the game, some of them are really really well hidden. I'm trying not to miss anything even in my first playthrough but still in missing half the stuff or more.

Best part about the Gauss Cannon is how quickly it takes down shield guys, cacodemons and pinkies.

Man, I love this game so much. I feel bad for my copy of UC4, which I pretty much abandoned halfway through, lol.

Oh, good to know that's in there. Should help out some!

Once you have it upgraded you can melee at further distances on top of the animations being quicker, really makes the game feel great in combat.

On subject on the ending: I was prepared to be disappointed going by the non-spoiler comments in here but I thought it was perfect and didn't feel abrupt at all.

Did you get the Siege mode upgrade for the Gauss?

It turns a great weapon into an overpowered piece of fuck.

Oh yes. The siege mode is god-tier.

I also recommend the chaingin's mobile turret. Hot knife through butter!
Even more ridiculous when you complete the final upgrade for it. It never overheats! Your only limit to firing is your ammo. Makes certain high HP bosses a bit easier

Just double-jump before you go into siege mode. Gives you enough manoeuvrability to prime a shot even before you get the (imo very underwhelming) movement upgrade.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I bought it, but I never use it

Standing still in this game, lulz

I just use that sniper zoom for 100% on some TF 2/Overwatch Widowmaker shit

You know something that makes you stop to use it is gonna be OP as fuck.

If you max it you can actually move with it, but like said above jumping then charging in midair works fine and that thing basically two shots the strongest enemies.

It's a thought. There's also an oblique reference to Tower of Babel/E2M8 in the Spider Mastermind's codex entry, and the loading screen text for level 2 talks about how the cycle begins again, so I'm not entirely willing to take the demons' version of events at face value. Comes off more like a Homeric retelling of events to make Doomguy into this impossibly badass legend to downplay just how badly he destroyed them in times past.

Have to come up with an explanation for the ghost knights, though.

Holds true for Nightmare as well, honestly. I feel like the game hits its peak in terms of balance right around the middle.

I love that Hayden starts by loosely quoting the ending of DOOM 2.

Outside of being blatant sequel bait, their armour appears to be power armour similar to the praetor suit.
I'd speculate that before becoming an 'elemental force' as mentioned in the logs, they were similar to the doom marine.
Either that, or said elemental force shaped itself in the doomguy's image because he's such a massive demon-slaughtering badass.

There are some obvious crusader vibes to their designs, so that could be a sort of thematic hint toward their backstory.

I think that's where the game is at its best. By the end, you kinda seen all the enemy types and weapons, I kinda ready for it to be over.

I appreciate that this game does the silent protagonist bit correctly, unless something changes later on Doom Marine is actually not speaking as opposed to most silent protags where the character clearly must be speaking and we just don't hear them.
