I don't get it. If you want more power, why would you buy a console and not a PC?
Every single console would easily be sold out at $600.A few hundred scalpers are nothing compared to dozens or hundreds of millions of consoles sold. And them offering that price doesn't mean people buys them at this price.
No. PS5 and Series X are sould out, but Series S and Switch are in the stores. PS3 didn't perform well at $600, that pricing -and even worse selling it at a loss by far- was one of the biggest mistakes Sony ever did.Every single console would easily be sold out at $600.
Some People don't like gaming on PC's.I don't get it. If you want more power, why would you buy a console and not a PC?
Thanks for proving my point, People like better tech, are willing to pay for it and gravitate toward the higher end version of consoles.No. PS5 and Series X are sould out, but Series S and Switch are in the stores. I’m working on it, a 4k HDR one probably won’t cost that much. It has mostly come down to size, if I’m gonna get a 4k TV I want a decent sized one. At least a 60” one, and currently it won’t fit in my pretty small apartment, but me and my SO are planning to get ourselves a bigger place and then I’ll make sure to get a good one.A quality 4K TV with HDR will bring better image quality than you are currently getting.
Get with the times, if you have PS5 and a 1080P TV without HDR you are doing it wrong.
Do yourself a favor and buy a better TV.
I wouldnt get my hopes up for them hitting that date
It's only a matter of time, especially if we take into consideration that Sony has been flirting with TSMC 6NM for added capacity, I'd imagine that would relieve the strain somewhat on the current model of PS5, maybe then we'd see the PS5-PRO model fabbed on 5NM along with a slim offering. Probably 23' or 24'.
Some people just prefer consoles. Plus the cost of entry for a rig that has all that extra power is so much higher than consoles. I have a very beefy PC and still game more on my Series X and PS5.I don't get it. If you want more power, why would you buy a console and not a PC?
I can't believe this still gets asked, but...I don't get it. If you want more power, why would you buy a console and not a PC?
I think both Sony and MS will have "PRO" versions of the consoles, but the earliest I can see them coming out is Holiday 2024. It all depends on where we are at with the pandemic and if things settle down. Like some pointed out, people can't walk into a store or go to a an online and order a Series X or PS5 as of today and based on what we have been told, this situation along with GPU's will be tight for another year.
Agree. This is going to be a long Gen. I think cross gen games is going to be common for at minimum another full year to even 2 years. We will get some "Next Gen" only games of course...but the majority of them will be cross gen games.I'm thinking the same way.
A 10 year gen with the pro consoles coming in 2024.
So it's cheaper to buy a $5-600 console every 2-3 years?I can't believe this still gets asked, but...
Because I hate using PCs. Because I have no real room for one in my living room in a small townhouse. Because outside of the USA they are ridiculously expensive compared to consoles. Because I hate using Steam, which is the de facto PC storefront.
I care about power, I just can't stand using PCs to game.
YesSo it's cheaper to buy a $5-600 console every 2-3 years?
Sucker born every generation I guess.
What third-world country do you hail from? I'll be praying for you, my friend.I don’t even have a 4k TV yet, dammit.
The third world country Sweden, good sir. What third-world country do you hail from? I'll be praying for you, my friend.
There are no $600 consoles, and I don't buy a console every 2-3 years. It's more like every 6-7 years. So it's cheaper to buy a $5-600 console every 2-3 years?
Don't forget to tack on the years worth of online fees if you play online. Part of the reason I am re-investing in PC again. If Sony starts releasing all of their first party titles on PC too I will leave consoles behind. There are no $600 consoles, and I don't buy a console every 2-3 years. It's more like every 6-7 years.
But even if it WAS every 3 years, where I live it would still be substantially cheaper, probably half as expensive than PC gaming.
2023 does seem a bit early and unnecessary for a Pro refresh. I guess that technically makes sense as the middle of a 6 year cycle, but with demand still far outstripping supply, most people who want one still not having one, and the generation barely making a tepid start with true next gen titles, they could give the base consoles another year at least to stretch and deliver more differentiated Pros later.

I didn't say it was its exclusive problem, it had many of them. I said it was one of their main issues.PS3's problem wasn't exclusively its price: if it had the gaming content and advertising Day 1 to justify its value proposition to gamers it would've sold extremely well at $600.
But that was the issue: they failed to do any of that. Hence why sales were so bad at $600. At one point people probably thought $400 consoles could not work either going by the SEGA Saturn, yet the PS4 showed that to not be true. I do think the passage of time helps with people becoming more comfortable with certain concepts WRT pricing (console, gaming software, etc.), but it also helps plenty to make sure the content is there, and the advertising is on-point.
Do that while being able to read the room WRT the direction of big changes in the industry going forward and $600 could work. I definitely expect the 10th-gen consoles to increase on their high-end to $599/$649, which will still be a bargain compared to building a PC of whatever equivalent spec the 10th-gen consoles end up at.
I don't think there is going to be a mid gen refresh this generation. I know that a lot of people assume there will be because there was one previous gen, but that was still the exception rather than the rule for home consoles.
Here is why I don't think there will be one:
- There's no marketing hook. Both the PS4 Pro and XoneX were sold with the promise that they would deliver 4k gaming. Now whether they actually achieved this is up for debate, but the PS5 and XSX already claim to support 4k gaming. So what's the marketing hook going to be? There's no resolution bump, games already run at a solid framerate.
- PS4 Pro and X one X continued to be outsold by the standard models after they came out. Most consumers still went for the cheaper options
- You make you the people who won't upgrade feel like 2nd rate customers because they're getting a lesser experience. One of the benefits of buying a game on a console is knowing that you're, more or less, playing the best version of the game outside of playing it on a higher end gaming PC.
I don't think we'll see another upgrade. We will probably see a redesign of both consoles, especially of the PS5.
Thanks for proving my point, People like better tech, are willing to pay for it and gravitate toward the higher end version of consoles.
Switch being a portable is the exception.
PS3 released in 2006.
Are you serious?
It's 2021. The consoles launched in 2020.
Also the current market does not agree with you.
Scalpers are making a lot of money selling at well above retail...
