Well then I prefer a curated, ready to play and cheaper console solution. At least lately.
Pc is of course the ultimate platform... I have over 600 fucking steam games. OH I KNOW a thing or two about pc gaming and that's why I love/hate it.
The older I get, the less patience I get for it though
I never claimed console gaming was bad at any time. I merely stating my observation that console war is the effect of STRESS. Fear of your console family ceasing to be, like Sega.
People here wondering why so much hostility towards rivals? Because the paradox is that despite being a console walled garden, what makes the most money is actually third party games. And thus the biggest source of funding is not actually guaranteed to stay-put. You just need to drop in total platform numbers for these games to disappear. And the biggest cause of drop in console numbers is if they are switching sides.
As mentioned in my previous post, there is actually very little effect in console waring. It doesn't matter how much fans cry and shout, they were never going to save Dreamcast, let alone worse failures like the Atari Jaguar.
I agree that console waring is
in essence, futile. That no console ever get saved or killed by fanboy arguments. But the customers of a console still feel real anxiety and thus feel they had to do something. Calling it tribalism is correct, you just are dismissing it as if giving it a name somehow makes it unimportant. Tribes are in constant stress of being destroyed, that's why they fight for survival. And sometimes tribes do pointless shit because they didn't know anything else to do that could work.
(Nintendo walked off and did their own thing, deciding that money from 1st parties is good enough and focused on that.)
Console wars exist because people are scared, And they have a reason to be scared. Console gaming might survive a long time, but no specific console family is truly immune from ending.
