Returnal: best fx
Obviously some concessions had to be made WRT IQ to maintain 60fps (although it doesn't look nearly as low-res, especially while playing, as the "1080p hurr durr" crowd would want you to believe), but what's really the most impressive to me is how much particles are used everywhere (I really didn't realize this, having played it, until I watched the tech breakdown). Tentacles and such on enemies? Particles. Vegetation? Particles. Destructible environments? Particles. Particles? It's a Housemarque game, you better fucking believe there will be particles. It's nice that they were still able to keep their DNA despite doing something unlike what they've ever done before.

The game looks like that all the time, everywhere.

Those pics were taken in performance mode and not even from the DLC (which I'm yet to play).

Realism - Red Dead Redemption 2
Graphic Fidelity - Id go for RDR2 again but HFW looks technically a level above
Art Design - FromSoftware is untouchable

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is a masterpiece. The fluidity of the animation, unique character designs, and the richly detailed backgrounds make it a standout. It's a testament to how 2D sprite-based graphics can be timeless and artistically profound.

A Plague Tale series is also a series people sleep on in terms of atmosphere. It was such a surprise. I wished Assassin's Creed Unity looked like that to some extent.

Cyberpunk 2077 on PC is the reigning champ of video game graphics. The sheer quality of its visuals across the breadth of its world is simply unmatched. Combined with its incredibly art direction, nothing comes even remotely close to Night City.

Runner up is Red Dead Redemption 2. The scale and detail Rockstar pulled off on an Xbone is a miracle, and it only looks better everywhere else. Go anywhere and it all looks spectacular. No linear corridors, no fixed time of time, no bullshit; it's a feat for the ages.

Everything else might look good, but as we've seen in this thread, its the same five screenshots posted every time - and for some games, its almost always just cutscenes that look drastically different to gameplay. They have their moments, but, with Cyberpunk and Red Dead Redemption 2, in gameplay, they look astounding.

Flashless at the Golden Globes
  1. Horizon Forbidden West - Pound for pound best looking game out there. Exceptional lighting, insane character models, gorgeous foliage, incredible dialogue mocap
  2. Cyberpunk PC - Best technical showpiece with easily the most advanced graphical features out there. Some poor animations and jankiness keep it from being #1.
  3. Starfield PC - Probably the best lighting model in a game so far. Best interiors. Truly awful exteriors and mediocre character models and animations keep it from charting higher.
  4. Demon Souls - Great lighting and atmosphere paired up with some really detailed texture and asset quality.
  5. Ratchet - Exceptional modeling work, character models and lighting producing near CG quality visuals at times.
  6. RDR2 PC - last gen's GOAT, but feels a bit dated compared to the top 5 above.
  7. Final Fantasy 16 - Insane setpieces on a scale never seen before. Straight up cg looking cutscenes.
  8. TLOU2 - Character models, foliage, animations all among the best last gen.
  9. Witcher 3 Remastered PC RT mode - Surprisngly good looking on PC. Still has the janky animations but it now looks like that original E3 trailer that was downgraded.
  10. Batman Arkham Knight - Best rain ever. best looking city in a game ever. Still looks amazing even after playing cyberpunk in path tracing mode. Go figure.
Honorary mentions:
Matrix Demo - Just a demo even if playable
Flight Sim - Technically not a traditional game but probably the best looking game out there
DriveClub - Poor IQ mars what is arguably still the best looking racer on the market in the best lighting and weather conditions.

Best looking game of all time is tough to pick, you’re gonna get the mgs4 crowd, crysis, for the rest of us you could see Battlefield games getting votes.

Cyberpunk 2077 with Overdrive. It looks pretty amazing, atleast on Youtube, and is so far the only game were I really see a huge upgrade by Raytracing strong enough to justify the hype and the cost in performance.
