So since MS will eat everything they can what you guys think will be the scenario for platform holders in 10 years?

Hardware will be a thing yet? Playstation will be around? PC game will be around? Steam?

What publishers you guys think will remain independent?

We will be on a cloud scenario only and subscription services?

What is your thoughts?

Why 10 years? We are 3 years into this gen. If there is a next gen in 5 years then those platforms will be around in 10 years.

The real question is, can we skip having to buy a fucking PlayStation and get the games on PC in less than 2 years?

You already can do thay. You don't need to wait 2 years. Their games are already available on Steam.

It's not going to be all that different in 10 years.

Playstation 6 will be out with plenty of Sony first party exclusives, but it's become the norm for pretty much every first party game to hit PC within a few months to a year.

The next Xbox hardware will be out, but Microsoft will also be very focused on Game Pass, they will have nurtured and expanded their mobile properties inherited by their ActiBlizz and other studio acquisitions, and they'll continue to have a strong focus on the "play anywhere" appeal of their ecosystem. Smart TVs, set top boxes, PC, phones, handhelds, etc.. etc..

Nintendo will just be Nintendo, but more. They'll continue to lean on hybrid console/handheld hardware, will release their tried and true set of first party IP, and they'll have aggressively expanded into the film industry as well.

That's about it. I think there will be plenty of room for all three platform holders to succeed, but I do think Microsoft is going to gain a lot of ground over the next 10 years.

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
I don't envision Microsoft making hardware ten years from now.
Yeah, you envision Microsoft throwing away there biggest source of revenue. And just for the record the Xbox platform makes more revenue than the entierty of Activision Blizzard. Kinda funny people think Microsoft will never drop Gold but are so certain that they will drop the Xbox platform itself.

Nintendo
Playstation
Xbox
Here's a simple tip for you, when Michael Pachter says they won't survive, believe the opposite.
My take is, it's always been the parents who decide from the first place, not the children, so it just makes sense that they'll last.

I'm guessing xbox as a console will barely exist, Nintendo will have properly mastered the hybrid idea, and Playstation will continue to dominate console gaming.

10years? Possibly all 3(sony has a 50/50, depends how many more pubs the law lets MS gobble up)...

20? Well it's probably just going be MS mobile with streaming... seems like that's what Ms wants to do with gaming, kill all consoles and then push cloud gaming on phones

In 20 years you think even Steam and PC will go away? No form of on premisse hardware?

Steam will be around but are we considering launchers as platforms.

I don't see steam deck going on to take on the world if that's what you mean

PS6, Next XBox, Next Nintendo Hardware, and an insane RTX 8090TI. nothing will change, apart from the fact MS might be more competitive VS Sony and Nintendo.

PS7 - Sony
CCP(S1) - Tencent
Switch Double Down - Nintendo (the system can now be set into 2 Switch 1 docks at once for more juice, and the docks light up)
XXXbox - Microhard (they change their name following multiple future acquisitions, including most porn sites on the internet)

Games will become more and more THE PLATFORM. XBox, PlayStation, Nintendo, PC will matter less and less. The game you play (Live Service) will be your platform of choice.

Do not hate me because I speak the truth.
Tbh this sounds great to me. I care most about the gmes and want to choose what device I play them on.

PC ALL FOR SURE. Steam will still be the king.
Playstation
Microsoft
Nintendo

Playstation 6 will be targetting 2026 + 5 years with PS6 and pro, you have 2031. Then another one.

It'll be the same. Nintendo, Xbox and PlayStation will still be around. A handful of 'player 4' companies will enter and quickly exit.

We'll still get shit backwards compatibility.

Well, if Sony and MS keep buying all these developers and publishers, could be just Xbox, PC and PS that's left.

I think on the context of PC. Steam is a platform to my eyes.
To me PC itself is the platform, like Mac and Linux.

But if you want to talk launchers, most will be around except ubisoft connect and ea play/origin what ever its called because those will be owned by Microsoft

Windows will be around for a while to support whatever launchers are still around, guessing Steam, EA, and Xbox will be there until the end

10 years puts us around the mid-end range of the next generation. Based on how things appear to be headed I’m thinking:

Sony: PS6 with rumors about PS7 starting to pop up. PS6 comes with a physical version but PS7 may go the digital only route. Sony begins to buy more companies to compete with Microsoft.

Microsoft: Assuming the Activision deal has gone through by then… Microsoft will have a huge collection of developers and will probably buy more over the next 10 years. Call of Duty will eventually go exclusive. Microsoft follows up the Series X/S with a 3 console strategy. A less powerful unit replaces the Series S and is basically a Series X Pro, a much more powerful units replaces the series X to compete with PS6 and then there’s a new streaming box that is for Gamepass only. For the next generation, Microsoft is rumored to not have a true PS7 competitor and will instead go full stream ahead turning every smart TV and streaming box into a potential Xbox. No more traditional console.

Nintendo: Switch 2 successor does well and Nintendo launches something completely new with power similar to PS5.

Overall Gaming Industry: Embraces AI development tools (for better or worse) which on the plus side allows for much faster creation of assets and scripts allowing the ever increasing game budgets to come back down to reasonable levels. AAA gaming gets a new breath of fresh air and the faster development times and lower budgets finally allow for more creativity, new IPs and more polished releases.

On a side note: The Apple Vision Pro comes out next year and if it actually does well, we will no doubt see follow up devices with lower cost. Within 10 years, we could easily have a “Vision SE” for under $1000. If that does happen, the NEXT-next generation systems (talking PS7 generation) could incorporate some AR abilities which might be cool and we could see VR FINALLY take off (for real this time).

In 2033, assuming the PS6 and Xbox (next confusing fucked up naming convention console) launches by 2027 November, we'll be in the last year of next generation console lifecycle and midway through Switch 3 (assuming Switch 3 launches in 2031).

So,
1. PS6
2. Xbox (Fucked up console name)
3. Switch 3
4. PC
5. Cloud (PS Now, Cloud, Luna and hardware based like GeForce now)
6. Apple iGame.

2034 = PS7 + Xbox Next Next fucked up naming convention console, 2037 = Switch 4.

TLDR = Consoles aren't going away anytime soon, will only get added hardware from different players entering the market, should they gamble and enter the market.
