Wasteland 3 Review Thread

I like how the fog of war you can still see NPC/enemy weapons moving/dancing as the characters move around even though you can't see the characters themselves, only the weapons attached to their backs.
The world is full of GHOSTS!

Yeah, saving a lot more than even my usual scum saving in this game. Had the same thing to a lesser extent on WL2.
Oh well the game is really excellent otherwise, but damn I think I spend more time looking at loading screens to see what happens with different responses or actions and from crashes than I do playing with the damn load times.

These SSDs can't come soon enough. I keep thinking how butter this game would be with a real gaming CPU.

Had 2 crashes at shops, which isn't the end of the world as I save all the damned time in wasteland. Ever since I accidently set of nuke off in wasteland 2.

Anyway, I've found a QoL improvement I would like to see: non jumping menus.

When I buy or sell an item, I don't want the cursor to jump between menus. I was spamming A to sell all of my crap that I had picked up and got confused when it said I had no money. 700 dollary doos right down the shitter.

That entire questline was so fucking hilarious, i know it's not a popular opinion but i really enjoyed my time with wasteland 2.

Questline?

Nahh I fucked with one in HQ.

It said something like "an atomic bomb, it looks like it's still primed"

I clicked again "playing around with a live nuke is a bad idea. Maybe it's best not to touch it"

I clicked it again, screen flashes white then shows a mushroom cloud. "game over"

Fuck.

The Luxe apartments sidequest...

Um yeh... unless you are overleveled I do not suggest you go in guns blazing... It's crazy.

I went in guns blazing and struggled like hell but made it work out. I'm currently struggling at the end of the Warrens. Holy hell there is a room full of enemies.

If you don't play or buy this game you are criminal scum.

Expertly crafted? The entire point of painstaking character creation is almost nullified because you can make as many one trick ponies as you want and add them or remove them as many times as you want.

Also all the crashing and general bugs.

Expertly crafted? You keep using that word, I don't think you know what it means.

Yep, that was a crazy fight, didn't find Warrens too bad, but I approached every room really slow and created funnels.
My biggest bane are DOTs, all forms. Fire, poison, the healer class needs some better way of curing it. Cures I have only found on vendors, should be a stim or drink or something to mitigate poison

I've not had a single crash or bug yet, must be lucky 🤷🏾‍♂️

Also why are you criticising the game for the character creation and squad based nature? That's the whole point of having up to 6 characters, you make each one a specialist so that you are covered in any situation. If you spent ages making a character, that's on you, you're not being forced to. The game gives you presets and plenty of opportunities to meet other characters that you can add to your squad in the game world.

Make a clip with a FPS counter and press shift repeatedly or jsut any clip where you have the text pop up. I've managed to drop from 100 to 30 frames per second only because of the text, Karak and others also acknowledged that bug. I'm pretty sure you have it and you noticed the many frame drops the game has. Even skillup confirmed it a tweet reply that it's terrible regarding optimizations. It's not expertly crafted at all unless you're just talking about the story/writing.

Yeh because of this I'm spending all my cash in the game on healing items from vendors so that I'm stocked up on antidotes and kits.

No idea how to remove fire though. When that happens I just end up missing the elemental system of Divinity OS.

This is a slow paced turn based RPG. If there's a game I'm not watching the FPS counter or concerned about the framerate in general with this is it. It has zero impact on the playability of the game. It's not like its stuttering when you're moving around, or trying to select dialogue choices, or even when picking your next move in combat.

Personally I've not noticed anything, but then I just set it to 4k max setting when I first started it up, saw it was running at a solid 60fps with vsync on then turned off my fps counter and left it alone.

What he meant and i agree even though i love this game, being able to create randoms at will kinda removes the planning aspect of character creation, you can build a mule for barter/weapon mod/armor mod, and just go back to base and switch anytime you want to, makes the game a lot easier and that's just one thing you can do with it.

Ah I get you but then you're just taking advantage of the freedom the game gives you if you do that.

It's not like you can level that character up significantly if you just leave them at base and only bring them out for non-combat situations. You also don't want to have to carry a character like that in combat because they would be useless.

It would be better to give a character like that basic small arms or melee/brawling skills and then make them a medic in addition to being your barter/modding character. That way they will still be able to make a significant contribution in combat and they will level with the rest of your squad.

You can't game the system then blame the game for you doing so.

Reminder this is not in that so called GOTG grid.

WL3 vs. DOS2 vs Disco Elysium vs. Pathifinder Kingmaker vs POE2 vs Tower of Time is the real battle for best CRPG

Random crashes, hell if you approach loot the "WRONG WAY" you won't be able to loot it, you'll have to move to reposition if you're "too close" to it. It's very annoying, and hard to believe that this and other issues still exist, it's even harder to believe that this thing was DELAYED from an few month's earlier release and is STILL in this state.

Tower of time is that good huh?

Now I'm even more annoyed at missing out on the free giveaway on GOG a whole back.

Damn, by mistake I assigned some skill points to my main character (basically added to him 3 points to be able to install addons to guns). I preferred to have those points on a secondary character. Is there any way to rollback assigned points? Maybe something like a rare item to reset points or something? Not a big thing, but really bugs me.

They level up together with your characters even if they stay at base, you can create a new one as well, there's no limit, and they come at the same level as your characters.

Yes it has this mini game/ horde type that happens in the story that makes it very tough. Its been balanced since release so not as difficult but its one i would call hidden gem. They have a new game incoming called Dark Envoy dropping very soon. One of the new dev. out there to keep an eye on.

That's... Ridiculous.

Dumbed down rpg mechanics and it turns out it's still too hard for Kokatu.

Im quite surprised. I dont consider myself a skillful gamer at all, and found wastelander difficulty (default one) rather easy. Indeed Im seriously thinking on switching to one level up.

Now when I try to launch the game from the xbox windows app, it loads the store to the 'Gaming Services' page and will not launch the game... Even creating a desktop shortcut makes an usable file. I guess I need to reinstall.... Not great as my internet has data caps and I just downloaded the 38 gb 'update' this morning too.

So after finishing the quest line about a certain past president I can say, without a hint of doubt, that it is my GOTY. I don't think I laughed so much playing game for quite some time now.

I have a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere. Do you get more XP by fighting than by bypassing fights with skill checks? I just arrested a bunch of Dorseys at the Garden of the Gods but I'm guessing fighting them would've netted me way more XP. I would appreciate if one of you could help me out. Thanks.

So should I play this now or wait for bug fixes? It seems like there is a lot of jank.

Triggered Kotaku reviewer said:
I was turned off by a pantsless, stuttering character named “Shakes” in a nightclub called Little Vegas. Shakes needs help retrieving a lost stash of drugs. Their moniker, if I’m correctly understanding the “joke,” is meant to mock the fact that people who use drugs might stutter during withdrawal, something that’s underscored by the fact that you can respond by calling him a “poor little twitch-head.” Showcasing a character suffering from withdrawal is of course totally within bounds. Portraying them one-dimensionally, and using them as a butt of a joke, is not. That such downward-punching dialogue is present in a game released this year—years past the statute of limitations for not knowing any better—is downright baffling. We simply shouldn’t accept it when reductive language is used to describe any fellow human, apocalypse be damned.

Fuck me... I don't know how to handle this request from Charley Knowles.
He wants to take out the Monster faction at the Bizarre.

Ugh. I wish I could make the choice later and not need to respond right away...

Don't make him wait too long or he will just attack without you.

Well I..
Already had 'Liked' as my faction with the monsters so it felt like natural progression to take out Charlie, he felt like a scumbag anyway
It remains to be seen thus far if that was a bad choice.

I wound up doing the opposite. One thing that it has impacted so far:
I just met another gang. The leader references me taking out the Monster Army.

Think I must be lucky. I am not having any jank so far.

I didn't at first either. Mid-way through the game and I am getting bad slowdown in some areas. While annoying, it's not enough to deter me from playing.

All I can say is PLEASE can InXile be allowed to make games like this forever more with Microsoft money. No multi-player BS or branching out into other "popular" crap. Thank you. (No jank or crashes here, either)
