That's not great, thank god for VRR again.

It's become a trend and not a good one with no VRR support still, Sony need to get that update out as soon as possible.

Not really, I use VRR.

Seriously though. First post made it seem like you were getting the same experience across the board for the most part, which shouldn't be shocking for a game that came out 10 years ago. I don't know how it went from that to console warring in a dozen posts.

People arguing over a frame here or a minimal resolution difference when the ACTUAL difference is the pathetic mod support on Playstation systems.

Xbox has 5gb available vs 1gb on Playstation. Xbox allows new scripts, sounds, textures, quests, gameplay, characters, armors, weapons, overhauls, etc. Playstation only allows in game assets to be reused. It's basically two completely different games.
I can't believe that's still a thing with playstation. I like my ps5 but I'm disgusted with Sony these days. No vrr, making ps5 irrelevant by bringing stuff to PC (I wouldn't care if they optimized those games for ps5 when their PC versions get released but they don't so it feels like we're getting shafted), lying bold faced about gt7 being "exclusive to ps5", etc etc

What will he talk about when Sony releases vrr?

I don't mind them making this one a BC game for Series X. Full steam ahead on Starfield is what I say. Worry about making it native later on.

It's a situation where the PS5 get extra optimization by default seeing how it's backwards compatibility is far more limited than the XSX|S. Bethesda had no choice but to make a native PS5 version especially since they are changing extra for it.

Lazy Xbox studio spending all their time optimizing the PS5 version but only clicking a few keys on Xbox Series versions.
See you were trying to be funny but yes, yet again the PS5 clearly received more development attention than the Xbox versions of this game. It is right there in the file details that both SenjutsuSage SenjutsuSage and I mentioned. Native PS5 app, enhanced X1 app. You'll figure out one day that there is no magical PS5 mojo but simply extra dev time.

The game is running in enhanced backwards compatibility mode for the Series X. It's XboxOneGen9Aware. It's using the XDK meant for Generation Durango as opposed to GDK meant for Generation Scarlett aka Series X.

The game has the "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" tag though.

"Games featuring the Optimized for Xbox Series X|S icon will showcase unparalleled load-times, heightened visuals, and steadier framerates at up to 120FPS. These include new titles built natively using the Xbox Series X|S development environment as well as previously released titles that have been rebuilt specifically for Xbox Series X|S."

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/optimized#thetable

How was this "rebuilt specifically for Xbox Series X|S" if it is just running in BC mode? Something don't jive here.

Where is your proof of extra PS5 dev time & even worse if this is the case why is Xbox Series X being treated like a red headed step child by devs?

It has the tag, but the file information clearly suggests otherwise. You'll also see the date my copy of the game was updated. This is literally running in backwards compatibility mode for Series X, literally the same as Cyberpunk 2077.

XboxOneGen9Aware - XDK - Gen Durango.

I won't say it got extra time on PS5, but what we know for certain is it's not using the Series X GDK. It's running in enhanced BC Mode or XboxOneGen9Aware mode. Is it really a native PS5 app like some are saying out there?

I'm going to run a little experiment, as on PS5 a friend of mine couldn't just update his PS5 game, he also had to go download the native PS5 version of the game. Even though Xbox usually has this stuff well in hand, I wonder if something strange happened for this one. So uninstalling my Skyrim Special Edition on my Series X now, and downloading a fresh copy to see if it shows me GDK. Because I literally already had this installed and been playing it since early this year.

I had a feeling after someone said they could run it from a external HDD.

Yep, that's a dead giveaway it's not using Series X's proper development environment, and is not a native app, but still technically backwards compatibility.

Looks as if the game on PS5 could be a full native app, which would be interesting if the Series X version is simply BC enhanced.

No, I get it. Just MS needs to not advertise this as a game "optimized for Xbox Series" if it isn't.

Proof is right above. The Xbox version is the same version released previously. It has nothing to do with red headed step children but MS most likely making the decision to focus on other games rather than a game that is already on Game Pass. Makes sense especially since the PS5 version is being sold at a premium. You have any evidence that it's PS5 superior architecture that provides the performance you see in this title?

That isn't proof of the time devs spent on the PS5 version. The PS4 Pro version of the game was already superior than the Xbox One X version last gen. And the PS5 version of the game is being sold at the exact same price as the Xbox Series X version.

$50.

If this is the "same version released previously" then Microsoft blatantly lied about this being an "upgrade" at all.

Free upgrade from Special Olympics Edition to the Next gen Anniversary Edition too has been confirmed.

Not sure why people are posting the Special Edition sku. That is the last gen version of the game. Or am I confusing myself with all the editions?

The Anniversary Edition is really just the Special Edition but with the added Creation Club content. Special Edition is $40 but gets the "free upgrade" to XSX/PS5 that the Anniversary Edition gets.

Fine. We don't know the TIME that was taken but we can agree that an X1 game running in Gen9 aware mode isn't the same as a native app on the PS5 right? When Warzone ran better on the XSX several people stated the PS5 version was just the PS4 version running in back compatibility mode and the advantages shown on the Xbox version should be ignored. Are we changing the standard now?

To your point about MS 'lying' it very well might be an upgrade if you only have the original X1 version and you purchase this one. If you were already running the updated version it has some added content but it doesn't have any additional graphical updates according to the video I posted earlier. MS sure gets accused of 'lying' often.

You know this and still toss out 'lying' accusations?

Microsoft factually said it was a "free upgrade" to current consoles. You said that isn't true, at least for Xbox. I'm going off of your claims that Microsoft didn't actually upgrade at all. I explicitly used the word "IF". What other word would you use to describe that other than "lying"?

Wait, do BC games count now?

Does "optimized for xbox series X|S" mean BC now?

Is Skyrim getting a next-gen upgrade?

Yes! Owners of Skyrim Special Edition or the Anniversary Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will receive a next-generation upgrade for the game. The upgrade will be free and optimize the game with enhanced graphics, faster loading times and more.

It can yes. That just means the game is aware of it running on a newer system. It's still running in BC mode.

Some other games that come to mind, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Division 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo MCC and plenty others I am sure. It's just a marketing thing at this point, indicating a title will run better on the Series consoles. Not that they are native games.

We'll deal just with the facts. The current version of this game is Gen9 aware on the Xbox and native on PS5 right? That is very similar to how the game was previously. Perhaps they added more than the creation club content I have no idea but I am comfortable saying a native app takes more effort than a backwards compatible game does. I also think this is a horrible example to use as a title to show a PS5 advantage. This WAS always the case when Xbox games ran better in back compatibility mode over the PS5 but maybe there is an exception here for some reason. I'm not touching any 'lying' accusations because that term is tossed around way to loosely and it is usually directed only at MS in fanboy wars.

PS5 technically (slightly) outperforms XSX in this having the same FPS profile while being fully vsync'ed. And Tom's emphasis on teraflops and 'the most powerful console' every single time in his videos is beginning to become very tiresome.
It bears repeating because the game should be performing better on the xsx every time in every mode. It makes no sense that it runs better in some sections and in some modes and worse in others. Someone needs to look into why we are seeing Xbox versions clean house in games like doom and metro and then struggle two years in a row in CoD, literally the biggest game of the year. Last year it was due to the tools so what’s the excuse this year?

He's the biggest Xbox fanboy they have there, in last year's COD video he was cheering when there were sections when the frame rate was higher on XSX like he was watching a soccer match :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Reality is that one year has passed and COD runs the same on both.
I think it running the same on both should give Tom pause. Let’s Find out why. After all, if a 6600xt outperformed or ran the games the same as a 6700xt, one would expect DF to ask some questions. If anything, the ps5 with its lower bandwidth should be holding back its gpu power from reaching its full potential. Xbox with 560 gbps of vram and extra tflops should never ever perform the same.

And if it IS the tools then surely some criticism of MS is in order because it’s been a fucking year. And if it’s not the tools and it’s due to the ps5 higher clocks or the ps5 I/o then cerny deserves a callout instead. And maybe a public apology for questioning cerny in multiple articles.

Again, factually we don't know that the PS5 version is native. If the Xbox version is suspect then so is the PS5 version.

You already "touched" the "lying" comment and, as I said, that was predicated entirely on YOUR claim that there actually was no upgrade for XSX. If you want to back off that claim then fine, but you can't have it both ways.

It is rebuilt, it has to be updated to be aware it's running on a Series console. It does not mean it's a native game though, as the part you quoted notes.

Not even a native Xbox app, they need to get that sorted asap And they need to add drs to the ps5 while they are at it.
no one can really notice res drops but fps drops like that. Ouchie.

meeds some more patches but I didn’t expect too much work for a ten year old game.

Can you point to ANY PS5 running a PS4 backwards compatible title outperforming an Xbox title doing the same thing? If this game ONLY runs on the internal drive that is all the proof needed. Native PS5 titles only run on the internal drive. Can anyone find out of the title can run on an external drive on PS5?

My claim was that this title is Gen9 aware X1 game. That was confirmed by the actual file data shown on the Xbox. I provided a video proving that. I never mentioned that MS lied. In fact I only used that term after you brought it up. I have no reason to back off my claim of this being a Gen9 aware X1 title.

How great it is to have VRR.
Let’s be fast, GAF. Everyone upgrade their TV to a VRR set and we will end console wars. It’s worth it. Saving money as we speak. Goodbye, KD-55XG8505.

I thought we should do a poll to know how many people have VRR sets at GAF but then I remembered warriors would complete corrupt the results.

You're responding to someone who is bragging about a technology they themselves do not understand. They quoted a picture where the fps were in the mid 40's and were relieved cause they have VRR when that alone would literally do ZERO, absolutely NOTHING in that scenario if your target is 60fps. At that point say your target is 120fps and see you're only getting 45fps and go "thank god for VRR!".

I don't know why people think it creates frames, it stops your display causing judder and tearing to dropped frames.
That's better than it not doing that, simple.

I agree.

Just like how plasters stop you bleeding when you are cut, it's better to have one than it is to not have one.

What's even better though is not getting cut in the first place.

I've tried to explain it before to him and he brought up LFC. It's laughable.

Because some start from the “dynamic clocks vs sustained”, “12 > 10” and other fun bits that should have seen one machine trounce the other.

We don't live in a world where developers get perfect framerate for their games, in fact it's a rarity. So having a solution to that problem is a good idea.

You should be asking developers to fix the framerate on their console games instead of celebrating framerate drops due to a non universal display feature.

1.) most displays do not have VRR support and many that do (OLED’s) have brightness and contrast fluctuation issues in VRR mode that some my brain more sensitive to than others

2.) VRR as a crutch prioritises a tiny minority of users

3.) If you have small variations at a high framerate is best, but a game dipping into low
40’s or mid 30’s and then back at 60 FPS will still appear to slow down (just without judder or tearing)

The day 1.) is fixed properly and VRR is available to most consumers will be great, but 3.) will still be a problem.
