Overall it does look sharper on Series X.

Looks like a texture issue, because you can see something weird happens on his left arm. 2 sec later, it's the same as the XSX version. This also looks like something is off with DoF.

You can also see the ground textures here are sharper on the PS5.

Yep, and I did point out it must be some weird glitch on the PS5 version as noted in my original comment, however overall image quality is superior on Series X.

We have seen CB produce some excellent results, e.g., Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn. The problem seems to lie in the CBR implementation by the developers. Hopefully, the artifacting and the poor UI experience is a bug and can be easily patched.

I don't think it has the clarity of the characters, the overall large number of FX, and the PBR shaders are top notch in Avengers. There is a lot more happening in Avengers.
I mean maybe technically it is superior but I think you’d be hard pressed to find people that think Avengers “looks” better in motion compared to miles morales. Better lighting, slightly stylized aesthetic, and just a better overall presentation.

Yea, I disagree about the presentation. Avengers definitely presents the Marvel characters really well in actual gameplay. Hulk looks awesome and their PBR shaders are top notch. Leather looks good, Black Widows black shiny costume looks amazing, and generally the action is pretty furious with tons of destructible objects flying around with smoke and FX.

Its a fantastic looking game for sure. The gameplay bored me to tears though.

And I’ll say the the fluidity, and speed of mm, especially when you can now do 60fps with ray tracing, is a much more aesthetically pleasing experience. The texture work and all are nice, but all the characters look off putting.

ethomaz brought up a good point, as in that CBR isn't free (it doesn't simply double the performance). Do you know the exact impact of CBR? Or is it engine dependant?

This is a huge win for xbox and is comparable to what was seen on the other video. I can't get how it's such a huge performance gap. The ps5 needs a patch. Very noticeable and blurry in performance mode.
Yeah that Xbox is crazy not gonna lie.

I did some quick math and on average, XSX is pushing around 55% more pixels than the PS5.
1800p ~ 4k CB isn't actually a 50% difference in pixels - there are multiple stages in CB that run at full 4k - one of the reasons it's more costly than the plain upscale.
That aside - with conversations shifting into 'average resolution counts' - pixel counters really need a scientific method to compute 'average' or 'common' pixel counts for these results to be taken seriously.
To date, none of them have demonstrated they have one. DF continually refers to pixel-counting camera-cuts, and that combined with a manual selection of frames to analyze all but guarantees results to be statistically irrelevant - thus likely not representative of averages. Maybe someone needs to start training ML models that can pixel count...

I believe it is engine dependent. There may be examples of how to use it in AMD's SDK though. I would think companies would use their own algorithm. And no, nothing in rendering is ever free.

Don't forget these aren't native "next gen versions" they are previous gen versions with upgrades, the "PS5 version" is likely running the PS4 Pro as it's base and things are piled on top of that, the native 4K mode is probably just something that got a little more attention but overall but the Pro used CB rendering and the One X didn't, it was just variable res.

Disagree. These are native next-gen versions because they are direct ports from the PC (which is nearly always a 'next-gen' version).

The ray tracing is only limited to specular reflections. It's not enough to put it ahead of conventional rasterizing using SSR but with stellar materials. But we can agree to disagree I guess. Nothing wrong with that.

So that Spanish guy was right about raw resolution (without upscaling)? I am not really sure how CB works, but I never liked the look. But I didn't come across of that in programming space.

And I don't want to pretend otherwise.

PS5 has no bridge lines. its like a wheres waldo of crazy.
Will be the vertical res being lost, so the lines of the bridge simply can't be seen compared to the xbox version which is rendering at a native resolution.

I think the ps5 version should hopefully be able to be patched but I'm not sure if the devs will bother.

Some people get really disturbed anytime a Series console shows any sort of advantage at all in any game.
Which is bizarre because all you have to do is look at the specs of these consoles to know that the Series X will consistently have better performance throughout the gen. If you care about these performance differences you should be buying a Series X.

So when will we start seeing consistent results?

Some of the comparisons don't really indicate a massive difference between the two. I'm wondering if you believe that will ever happen like some people said before the systems released.

It's happening right now, and as we've heard from multiple insiders, it's going to become even more prevalent as devs get more accustomed to the Xbox tools.

PS5 still look better because it’s higher res. It would only look better on XSX if it was CB 1440p vs Native 1440p but it’s not, It’s 1296p. Checkerboarding have little to no impact.
Fine but quality of implementation for CB is depended on dev implementation and here it doesn't look as good I would vager.

Different methods of CBR give different results but native is almost always better (unless it has some shitty ass AA/effects that blurs everything).

It will be very much depended on the developer to take advantage of whatever the hardware has to offer. In theory, if a dev is able to get the maximum out of both machines, the X should be better, but that's going to be impossible to measure since we will never know if they are in fact maxing out the hardware on both.

Nah - aint happening. Personally I am surprised that this first batch of games were not a clear 'win' for Xbox. That is the big surprise for me - it is basically a finishing line photo contest each time with sometime one console ahead and sometime the other.

To talk about this in console warring terms, the real first battle will be the first big multi-plat game later this year that has been developed with the new consoles in mind from the get-go such as BF6, the next CoD or the first UE5 game (whatever that is). Will be interesting!
