Updated XBOX Console Prices

Yes? I didn't say it's going to happen tomorrow, but Xbox raised prices last year and Sony inevitably followed. Switch 2 as well.

None of the console manufacturers can negotiate cheap prices any more because memory manufacturers look at them, laugh, and say take it or leave it.

This goes for PC components as well. Nothing to console war over here, laughing at X raising prices is silly because Y is going to do the exact fucking same.

The market isn't ideal for anyone but from a relative perspective, Sony has the edge on cost/price management. Microsoft admitted as much in their "Xbox Reset" announcement.

#3: We are in a hardware component crisis. When I joined as CEO in February, the price we paid for console storage components was over 2x as high as we paid last fall. These costs have since doubled again. And as we plan for the 2027 holiday season, we expect another significant increase, taking us over 5x the prices we paid only two years earlier. Memory costs have followed a broadly similar trajectory. While the entire industry is facing a components crisis, we believe we have been impacted more greatly than many of our peers due to the choices we made over the last half decade. We are currently unable to make as many consoles as players want to buy, and we need a new business model and partnerships for hardware as we remain committed to Helix.

There is no such thing as long storage contracts today. Even Apple is getting quarterly agreements.

Guys you DONT GET IT, the party is over. And Sony is below Microsoft in the memory pecking order.
Apple is releasing new versions of hardware all the time. Sony probably worked out something a bit more long-term because not much changes with a single piece of hardware like a console. I'm not saying they aren't screwed, but this could be why we don't see a price increase like with Microsoft right away.

I guess anything is possible, like Asha Sharma doing a 180 and announcing to the public that Gears of War will launch day and date on PS5 despite initial announcement of it being an exclusive.

The economic inflation that has occurred since 2020 is actually fucking insane.

We're 6 years into this console gen and they've gotten TWO price hikes. Is PS6 really coming next year? If so it's gotta be at least $1000 otherwise the spec bump must would be miniscule

Now this is interesting. Not sure if it's true though.
It is true. The guy knows what he's talking about. He usually has rock solid info.

The ones who say he is fake are people that badly misrepresent his views and try to say he said things he never said.

I listen to his show every week.

Genuinely asking, isn't a Series X more powerful?
Most of the comparisons have been to PS5 and the PS5 is a far better value. Generally the XSX performs on par with a PS5 and in some cases better, so yes the XSX should be a slightly better value. At it current "sale" price, its a better value by quite a bit.

I think K KeplerL2 and MoorelawIsDead have both speculated that delaying PS6 to 2029 will only make things worse for the console industry price-wise and hence we can expect Sony to confidently launch PS6 next year.
2027 will surely be, a 900 to 1000 dollar next gen console which will be suicide especially in Asia and European market. Even in USA, that is to much.

If they are correct in saying that memory prices will double again than another $100 price hikes on the PS5 is inevitable. Maybe an even larger hike on the Pro considering it has more RAM and double the storage.

What's a major pain for Microsoft right now is the SSD solution they have. 2230 SSDs are twice the price of 2280 ones.

Keep your powder dry. When the crash happens , and it's absolutely inevitable now (see micron pivoting yesterday back to consumer DRAM, signalling slowing demand from data centers), there's gonna be an ocean of bargains from absolutely desperate corporations.

I'm fucking tired to make fun out of xbox at this point. They've even taken that away from me.

In my forum heyday, this is when I'd be taking screenshots of the console guys dunking on Steam Machine prices. I think they celebrate a bit prematurely.

Making fun out of the situation is one thing, but to believe it won't hit them is delusional.

But either way, I will get the ps6 day1.

Is that even a standard SSD? Da fuq?

Reminiscent of their memory expansion cards.

It's shit like this is the reason you don't buy a prebuilt.
He's COPING.

The cost is driven by the NAND itself lmao. Not the form factor.

Not really. That's not how it works. The cartel USED to give long supply agreements. They then switched to quarterly and monthly agreements a few quarters ago. Now they sign long term supply agreements that cover years but they require some pretty rough requirements. Like co-paying for CAPEX and locking yourself to >10.5$/GB for half a decade. Sony PS6 design can't stomach that.

I think it's possible for Sony to still make it if they have Japanese government support. Like if the Japanese government offered micron concessions for their Japanese memory fabs under the condition that their local firms would get priority access.

I already said they're screwed with PS6. I was talking about PS5 specifically not getting a price hike right away, but I assume if not before GTA6, it'll be soon after.

I was just thinking about this. People are crazy if they do t think Sony and Nintendo are going to do the same thing.

Hell, you guys might want to start thinking about buying that car or replacing that old ac unit as well. It's going to get like COVID again in regards to tech components.
Can confirm. The computer in my truck went out and after waiting I eventually just grabbed another from the pick n pull. Get a FULL check up and do some work if your car is a computer on wheels.

Valve's already shown that a $1,000 console is barely better than the base PS5, if at all.

I don't think Nintendo will sustain the $50 price increase for long, they should have gone for a full $100 price increase considering all the price increases Sony, MS and Valve are doing.

I'll say it. Everybody on the fence - go get a Switch 2 ASAP. It's better than a Series S, the future is way brighter, and it's also cheaper… and who on earth is trusting Microsoft on anything at all right now. Even diehard fans have to be concerned. I'm fortunate to have multiple consoles and handhelds and as of yesterday, a PC, but Switch 2 right now looks like a steal in this climate. If I didn't have one, I would if it was at all financially feasible to do so.
I wanted to get a Switch 2 for The Duskbloods but was waiting for there to be more. I was of course interested in a few titles already out there, but I wanted more. So, then came Starfox, and that was enough for me to pull the trigger. I bought the console refurbished on eBay, it was JUST the console. So, I bought some knock off joycons (that are as good as stock) and a dock from Amazon, and I still paid less. Then just a few days later they announced the price hike, lol.

Around that time I decided to trade in my Steam Deck, and I did it online using a site that offered me $620, which was basically how much I paid for the 512 standard model when it launched 3 years ago, lmao. So, glad I did.

This timeline totally sucks and I am not even planning on buying Xbox Next or PS.
It really does dude, I wish more people would put their foot down and not pay these prices, but unfortunately, people will still do so.

We've had a 12% GDP drop and half, that's HALF of the dollar's purchasing power lost since the lockdowns.

Trying to imagine how this gen could get any worse.

I think ir could get a lot worse.

Prices will get so high that most people will need tk finance their hardware, or make do with streaming.

That's just a console. For PCs (including laptops) the cost will be so high that they'll only be affordable to a minority. Most people have to rent their PC hardware via the cloud......for an extremely high monthly cost of course.

AI will take most white collar jobs, and robotics will take over manual labour. A majority of people on earth will be poor and unemployed.

People then get sick of AI and rise up against their governments. 2 billion people die in the war. AI then becomes self aware and enslaves humanity for "banter".

Our streaming future is getting closer and closer at these prices.
Internet is far too unstable for that, at least outside huge metropolies, platform owners would have to give up on 50%+ customer base, and not casual 50% either :P
There is a reason google stadia or amazon luna are total flops

42k views 333likes/283 dislikes ratio
For comparision s2 marathon cgi trailer has 283k views, 22k likes/2,2k dislikes (and just hit measly 9,1k 24h ccu peak yesterday) :P.

Amazon luna is 7x less relevant even than that 🤣 🤣 🤣
