Its always been like that. Xbox LONG ago pulled out of other markets...which is probably a big reason their growth has been so damn bad this gen.
Well, it's differentb on this. Yes, Xbox has always been a brand that primarily focused on the tastes and interests of US and Anglo-Saxon users, but when it came to support, logistics, and having consoles available in other markets, it always more than delivered.
The current situation has a lot to do, firstly, with the sky-high production and manufacturing costs, which continue to rise. Secondly, with the effects of the Bond/Spencer strategy of "you don't need an Xbox console", console is not the center and reducing Xbox console production to cut costs.
Destining the consoles that are produced for the strongest markets with the longest tradition for the brand makes sense, as at current prices, these are the only places where even minimal demand would exist.
Clearly, Xbox considers XS gen amortized and isn't willing to lose $300+ per console sold. The solution? Produce fewer consoles, Up price and avoid losses... which is precisely the idea (on a different scale, of course) that Sony has hinted it will do with the PS5: manufacture fewer, avoid price reductions, and perhaps raise the price.
The industry is screwed. Fucking AI
