Avengers: Age of Ultron and Infinity War are weak movies (Movie Thanos is trash too).
Pokémon is just cock fighting for kids (but I still love it).
Harry Potter books are junk (the movies are watchable though, at least the first 3 that I saw).
Shawshank Redemption and Saving Private Ryan are meh movies (the D-day landing is impressive though).
Karl Urban is the best Judge Dredd ever and the Dredd movie is one of the best movies I ever saw.
Fellowship of the Ring is the best movie in the series.
Star Wars episode IV is the best and the prequels are pretty solid movies too.
All 3 Alien movies are amazing, all for different reasons.
Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge is the best Ninja Gaiden game (Yaiba is ok).

Western television is an overrated medium, shows tend to either get canceled and leave you hanging or keep going until they run out of steam, stories with endings planned out ahead of time are better.
If you ask me TV can't match movies, I hate the fact that most movies are garbage these days and what gets the most attention in culture is TV shows nowadays.
Anime is an interesting contrast because while a lot of them are technically TV series, they often stick to a limited number of episodes format with actual endings, I don't watch the long term ones like One Piece.
Basically I'm a quality over quantity guy, I just don't have the patience on average to watch hours and hours of a TV show, my favorite TV series are anthology ones or episodic ones like Twilight Zone or Star Trek where every episode or almost every episode is a new story.
Now, I'm not trying to be a total stick in the mud and say I refuse to ever watch anything and that there aren't exceptional ones, maybe I could get in the groove of it one day, but all in all I'd say movies > TV, I've always felt that way.

No. I was learning to play the sax at one point but I ended up pissing on it when I was blackout drunk one night. That was the end of my sax playing. I’m all about the accordion now, will never piss on it.

Here's the thing about anime, I will readily admit a lot of it's not objectively great, but I still find most of it entertaining.
Think of it like people watching cheesy 80s era action and horror movies, the point is to have a good time, it's not supposed to be high art, I think there's this misunderstanding about anime fans where people think we take it all deadly serious, we don't.
And not all anime is meant to be taken seriously anyway, a lot of the more ridiculous stuff is more tongue in cheek than people realize and we're laughing alongside you at some of the more ridiculous things found in some anime.
Everyone needs their own "junk food" entertainment when they just want to relax and have fun.
And for me personally my love of anime is all tied in with nostalgia for my teenage years, simpler days of my life, it just really takes me back.
Not sure why you lump Close Encounters in with those movies, Close Encounters is pretty damn great if you ask me.

Close Encounters I never jelled with because the protagonist is such a piece of shit. Dunno, is that the point? I just never enjoyed watching it, ever. Effects are cool for the time, though.

Yes and no. The industry revolves around a model that concerns consistently churning out heaps of trash to find a gem. That + the amount of fan content and doujin circles that goes hand in hand with it results in an incredibly self-aware audience that shamelessly dgaf. In turn the industry feeds off that to create material, the audience responds accordingly and what you get is a culture that's a far cry from B-grade horror movies.
Of course you get the turbo autist anon that will argue for pages upon pages over the purity of a historical figure or genuinely believes in gently walking girls home but most of that is restricted to the culture. Despite what the general populace thinks the vast majority of us aren't in fact Davido-kuns that seek to become a samurai in the land of the rising sun and generally, we try to hide our power levels. It's only prevalent on the internet because that's the outlet and where weebs tend to congregrate.

- Gaas is bullshit - companies milk the shit out of these games while providing a "service" and people buy into that shit happily without questioning.
- PS1 and PS2 games were way more complete and less buggy than the shit we have nowadays, miss those times. I would gladly trade PS4's output for the PS2.
- Cinematic experiences are interesting and they should exist but they are not the pinnacle of gaming. Tetris is a better game than 99% of that.
- Battle Royale is overrated
- I hate the way the new MK looks (and MKX also looked drab as fuck) but people forget the most interesting part that's been missing on MK for at least three entries: the music. The music is bullshit, it's cinematic, it's hollywood-esque and it sucks. Half of the interesting part on, say, MK2, was the musical atmosphere that it had. It's gone. Dan Forden is a genius musician and he now just oversees the games and they don't have one memorable song. It fucking sucks.
- I stopped playing GTA after IV came out. No regrets.
- Red Dead Redemption bores the fuck out of my skull.
- I never watched the Matrix nor any of the sequels. I don't care.

- (Arguing) politics is simply just arguing about your opinion, and is the biggest waste of time for anyone not holding office.
- Online dating culture is the absolute worst thing this generation has produced.
- Pineapple pizza is the best pizza (or any Hawaiian variant)
- China isn't as shitty as people/media make them out to be, all things considered.
- As much as I love the idea of big T&A from afar, having a life-long partner with that stuff IRL is repulsive (think: when they get old, post-partum).
- Hip-Hop is a big reason why African-Americans have little institutional respect in the States.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl was better/had better marketing than Smash Ultimate.
- People who cannot accept a (fairly elected) official are more of the problem than the official himself most of the time (maybe not unpopular on this site specifically).
- Twitch made playing video games yourself/anticipating video games much less entertaining.
- Fortnite is not a fun game.
- Cream cheese is disgusting; frankly, all cheese is unless it's on a cheeseburger or anything Italian.
- Anime/Hentai ( 漫畫 / 同人誌 / 變態 ) is the worst thing to have come from East to West because of the (extreme) culture(s) it bred.
- Pornography in any medium should not be free.
- People who look up to Cardi B and the like (especially women) have issues. She is literally a hood rat with money.
- People who blanket deuce on the police or make their jobs hard just because of news stories are the worst.
- People who cannot be friends with people of starkly contrasting political/spiritual/etc. ideology are soft (it's okay to be soft, just acknowledge it).
- 'Memes' as we know it have ruined the internet.
