Yea the melee stuff bugs me too but there are times I am on the winning end of it too. It's fun though when you melee someone and hear it hit then you go flying yet they hadn't even performed a melee you on your screen.

Oh and I know this is lame but WOOHOO I just hit level 30 in Lone Wolves tonight! I am proud of that.

One thing that does bother me is the MP maps. As people have mentioned, we are lacking a really excellent map. The map set is great, but I'm not yet feeling like I have a 'go to' map such as Lockout.

Guardian is like a modified version of lockout, or so it seemed to me

The people who are moaning that this game isn't like Halo 2 really have to start to realise that this game isn't Halo 2. You have to play it differently. Grabbing a BR and sniper for infinite win just doesn't cut it anymore, the AR will tear you to shreads at close range. Forget what you're used to and adapt to the new gameplay and weapons.

The same thing happened when Halo 2 first came out. Over time people will get used to Halo 3 then bitch when "Halo: What? Combat is Evolving!" comes out and you can't immediately melee after a Mauler shot.

As I say, excellent map, it doesn't have the same feel. Something is missing.

I do love the fact that there are so many ways to climb around the level and fool your opponents on that level, that's what feels like Lockout. There are a couple of placed where pixel perfect crouch jumps can get you right behind an opponent trapped in a corridor.

Outwitting people is easily the most fun part of Halo for me. Too bad it doesn't happen very often...

I wouldn't know, I was more of a PC player in the Halo -> Halo 2 transition, but I do know compeditive gaming, and the internet, so I don't find that hard to believe.

So far all I've seen is improvement. May times I've noticed subtle changes to the gameplay in comparison to 2, and I can understand why they are there. From the BR not dominating at close range to the sword taking a while to switch to. You can tell Bungie thought long and hard about how to balance this game.

I thought this initially, too, but after playing it for a bit, it definitely feels different to Lockout. It's hard to say exactly why/what/where etc., but it definitely doesn't play the same.

Stats are fucked up... It stopped counting matches a few days ago and now a single one appears of the bunch I've played in a few days... Weirrrd.

Anyway I'm playing through the Campaign on heroic now and I'm having a lot of fun. Tsavo Highway was something completely different on that difficulty (really agressive Brute packs near the end!). I'm on mission 6 now and this one is the most difficult so far. Right now I'm at the part where 2 Hunters chase you. I'm underequipped and I can't get them to croak. I know getting behind them and shooting their weak spot is the way to go but that's not easy when there's two! Any other effective methods of dealing with these bastards? I'm short on grenades too :s

Why does Rumble Pit (unranked) get all kinds of cool gametypes that Lone Wolves, or hell any other gametype doesn't seem to have? I've just played a few matches and got Ninjanaut, Juggernaut, all swords (forget the name), and Team Hammerzeit. The last one is actually kind of stupid, but hilarious on the last match I played of it. It was in the Pit, and there's no weapons but there ARE turrets, and I just started running around with it killing people, and they started to get really pissed off :lol

I bring an end to TGS's fun early. I blame Ohio State Football, and people that are into watching it at my house.

But more importantly I blame Armubaba for not being a team player. He sat at the Custom Games lobby for like 30 minutes and then got offline. We had to have sent like 100 invites.

Fail.

Team Gay Subtext reconvenes at 9:50PM EST.
GO BUCKS!

In other news, I must play with you fellows. I must. It's been too long. Tomorrow we'll play. But not during the Indians game.

Buttonbasher, what's your GT, I don't think you're on my Friends List.
By CHOICE. Of me.

So ummm...I've never played a Halo game on Heroic before but normal was too easy and so I just tried playing the first level in Heroic solo and it was too hard for me :\

My problem was that there was SNIPER SNIPER SNIPER SNIPER everywhere and while that's ok when you have long-range weapons to take them out one at a time slowly and the move in on the rest of the enemies, I kept running out of ammo and being screwed. I finally got to the last part of the level with almost no ammo remaining and there were like 5 snipers shooting at me from various directions. Oh and the other thing was that in Heroic The Arbiter keeps dying after like 5 secs of battle and then he's asleep the whole time leaving it all up to me.

Any suggestions?

I think I know the checkpoint you are in. You are coming through a tunnel to the opening that leads to the bridge that has brutes and the hammer brute on it. The problem is that in the opening you get sniped, and overall you don't have much time or ammo.

Instead of going up the stairs to the area that leads to the bridge where the brutes are, go for the door on the left from the staircase that leads under the bridge. Going under the bridge is much easier.

Run right through the opening to the door. What ever you do, do NOT jump. You'll get sniped in an eyeblink. Once on the door, do an U turn and kill any enemies following you.

When under the bridge, not too many enemies attack. With some luck, you'll get a save point in the house under the bridge.

Proceeding through the bridge is straight forward. Stop only behind the pillars, because on the open areas you'll get sniped.

At the other end of the bridge the hammer brute will come from the door. If you have a brute shot, shoot him to stun him and then throw a plasma grenade to blow him up (he'll otherwise dodge the grenade). Once he's down, and he will be after a plasma grenade, you get his hammer and the rest of the level is a piece of cake.

Another quetion. Does it matter if I beat some levels of the campaign in co op and some solo to get the legendary achievement? I have about 5 solo levels and I just beat "The Ark" on co-op.

Ya know, I originally didn't have a problem with the Mauler, but it's really too fucking abundant on all of the maps it is on.
Seems to me also that it's a bit overpowered, way too often I've had a shotgun and the other guy had one mauler and he still would win. I can get two maulers beating a shotgun, but just one shouldn't happen...

I'm trying out the meta-games, and i noticed my multiplier doesn't seem to increase when I put on multiple skulls. Does it only count the highest skull possible?

Is this Sierra 117? As I remember there are a total of 6 snipers, 2 of which you will not see until you get to the area with 3 brutes and a chieftan. You can kill each of them from a distance to the head with a sniper rifle so you may have to restart at a checkpoint and conserve sniper bullets. Melee is your best friend in the harder modes and if you learn the brutes' pattern you can effective kill them without a bullet. Sierra 117 is probably the most frustrating in Heroic and Legendary though so don't give up.

I just did Sierra on Heroic today and the whole thing is pretty much a bitch, from the jungle snipers to the final battle.

IIRC, there aren't any sniper rifles in the area, but a carbine rifle or battle rifle should do just fine.

HALO 3 IS AMAZING, THE AIMING FEELS LIKE HALO 1 COMBINED WITH HALO 2 PACING,

just talking about MP, maybe SP sucks like H2

BUT DAMN THERE A LOT OF NOOBS THIS WAS MY 1ST TIME PLAYING IT AND I FINISHED IN 1ST IN EVERY SINGLE MATCH

SO LONG ORIGINAL XBOX, AT LEAST IT SHOULD WORTH THE NORMAL EDITION AND A WIRELESS CONTROLLER, IN A WEEK I SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH SAVINGS TO GET A X360 PREMIUN

SEE YA NEXT WEEK

BTW I never found the configuration of the controller, I guess I could have done even better if the sensitivity wasn't so high

HEY HOW DID YOU STEAL MY REVERSE CAP LOCK KEYBOARD. it was suppose to be a one of a kind.

Weird, I beat it on heroic and a few days ago on legendary. Seemed like one of the easiest levels. If you think that was hard, wait until tsavo highway :D

You get a full sniper rifle with no reason to use it until the last setting. There are 4 or 5 jackals there with carbine/sniper. Not hard to take out. You should have plenty left to take out the brutes on the bridge as well.

Only gold skulls will change your multiplier.

The number in the corner (starts at 3.0x) is the time variable.

Other variables are applied as you are getting points for kills, they do stack. The time variable is calculated at the end of the game.

finished the game tonight on heroic.

not gunna mention the ending but it's a bit Blahhh...

(even after the xtra footage after the credits)

what kills me on multi is the delay between hits with certain weapons as well as the delay after you 1st grab those same weapons. it was not there prior and almost always spells out death when you do a last minute swap or grab at an attempt to stay alive.

hopefully they will change it so it's more about how fast you can actually use your hand eye relation and not force you to be gimped.

anyone down for 4 player legendary?

need to get that armor and legendary is kicking my ass on solo.

if there is anyone who hasn't finished the game on legendary please send me a FR. my GT is xeroxinlola. i can't even get past the first mission on legendary >.<

What didn't you like? Just curious.

Just finished the game on heroic. Far, far better campaign that Halo 2 and especially Halo. I'm really impressed, Bungie!

The narrative, I thought, was a little odd toward the end.
Gravemind's, uh, lack of appearance was startling. I figured that would be a pretty epic showdown, but oh well. Gulity Sparks' meltdown and killing Johnson was also a little out of left field, I thought.

But man, what a crazy final level.

I'm so ready to get my XBox 360 online. Damn you MS for charging $100 for a network adapter!

What they really need to fix is the HORRIBLE AUTO AIM. It's far worse than the auto-aim in Halo 2. If you're shooting someone, and another enemy runs past you, you'll spin around. I've actually been involuntarily spun in nearly a circle before by the auto aim. I've been physically unable to move my cursor off a guy dancing around a fusion core in order to shoot said fusion core.

Doubly shameful considering that, if I recall, there was virtually ZERO auto-aim in the Beta... it was so much better.

I haven't been keeping up with this entire thread, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet (especially in contrast with the wonderful aim-free Beta).

I need missions 2-5 on legendary, but wouldnt mind helping with the entire thing and I happen to be off tomorrow. My GT is Xevren11 if you want to try and arrange something.

The lunge wasn't there in the Beta either, and it's back to Halo 2 style almost sometimes, disappointing.

I disagree, the auto-aim was ALOT worse in Halo 2. All you needed to do was stick the aim somewhere near the guys head and then not touch the right stick ever again. I have noticed shooting at people and someone running by and the aim sticking to them, but severity of the auto-aim and the radius of the magnetism (i.e how near you have to have the reticule to the person before it sticks to him) was a lot worse in Halo 2.

Yeah, but it's strangely inconsistent, sometimes there is no lunge at all (many times I've whiffed hits just cause I'm anticipating the H2-lunge and will just hit in the air cause I'm not right up on them) and sometimes there is H2 lunging (video on my file share where I lunge like 2m to assassinate a guy on a mongoose).

you havent heard anyone talk about it because it isnt really true. halo 2 had a ton more autoaim. the thing youre talking about may be true, but when comparing actually shooting with the various weapons in halo 3 theres so much less autoaim.

So why didn't you see more sticks in games? Rarely outside maps like Gemini and Midship (both started with two plasma grenades) you saw consistent sticks on players.

It is much more difficult to stick somebody in Halo 3.

I don't notice a lunge at all and I've played tons of Halo 2. If there is, it's minor compared to the previous game.

well i didn't hate it, it was just think it could have been much much more dramatic.

sorta felt like a quick rough draft of a hurried ending.

testing out to see if i got the spoile tag down before answering in any more detail

Because auto-aim doesn't translate into more sticks. Lock the auto-aim on someone with a BR and shoot at his head and each shot will hit (in Halo 2), with auto-aim and if the person is moving side to side (not running in a straight line right at you) and you throw a plasma nade, you will be throwing at where he was (with the auto-aim). With the BR or any other weapon you vill be hitting each shot, without needing any finess in aiming.

The lunge is there sometimes and sometimes it isn't, as I said it's pretty inconsistent (in Halo 3). Check out the film called "assassination" in my file share and you'll see some pretty horrible lunging.

In custom games, does Halo 3 figure out the best connection and give them host, as in Matchmaking, or is the party leader the host disregarding connection quality?

hm. does bungie ban for that achievement thing? I don't do it, but they're just achievements..

No they don't, but there are people like me that take the LAW into our own hands. In the pre-game lobby yesterday some 12 year kid was asking if anyone wanted to do some achievement whoring. I told him to get it the old fashion way. Next round i'm in the same lobby with the kid again and this time someone agrees. They plan to meet at the ghost on Snowbound, Unlucky for them i started at the top of the map so i went and got the power drainer and made my way over and Killed them both

If u see or hear people doing it, go kill them its easy kills. Assassinations all round

Auto-aim in Halo 2 is NOT worse than Halo 3. It isn't even close. To deny this is to deny blatant reality and it probably means you're a severe halo apologist.

As for melee lunge, I've barely noticed it. Certainly far less than in Halo 2. It seems random, honestly. Sometimes guys lunge at me from pretty far, but it's pretty rare, and I haven't lunged much at all.

Though I do have a problem with some aspects of the melee in Halo 3. I think the Assault Rifle melee is WAY TOO STRONG. Put about 4 (yes, four) bullets in someone then melee them and it is an instant kill. Way too strong. The battle rifle is also a bit too weak, I think. You can dome someone three times and then hit them and they don't always die.
