I don't make a habit of responding to people who are as obviously fired up as you, but I'll make an exception in this case.

Halo 3 uses Push To Talk whenever the recipients of your voice (ie. your team) is greater than 3. In a 4v4 game, you'll have open channel voice. Note that 4v4 matches make up the overwhelming majority of our online games. In anything larger, you'll have to use PTT.

Why? Because our voice model does not leave things to chance (as some other games do)--we guarantee voice delivery to a high degree of reliability, and at the same time prevent it from eating all of the bandwidth that the game needs to run smoothly. 4-5 mouth breathers with their mics too close would saturate the voice channel. Our decision was to prioritize reliability and robust game object networking, and you'll have to get used to tapping the D-pad in larger games. (If you're not already aware, you don't need to hold it, the channel will stay open until you're done talking, or around 20 seconds, whichever comes first.)

Second, you can make Custom Games with your friends all day long. Go nuts, there's nothing stopping you. Make sure your network mode isn't Invite Only, and people will be able to join you at will. If you want random people to join in, though, you'll need to use matchmaking. That's how we've set things up, and that's not going to change. If that's a dealbreaker for you, then I'm sorry you were unaware of how we've been doing things for the last three years.
Thanks for your answer.

For both reasons (and principally the first one to be honest) the game seems to not be for me or my friends. It may looks crazy, but games with friends without talking at any time is for me inconceivable.

Well, thanks again for your concern.

Sorry dude but that is a crazy reason to decide a game is not for you. I know people have different tastes, but it isn't that much of a hassle.

What a shitty way to kill off the sarge.. wow.. absolute twist in the storyline and he doesn't really do anything spectacular in dying.. the same with keyes.. she busts in and tries to save the sarge.. and she gets blasted by some newb when shes not looking.. why bungie.. whyhyyy..

That legendary ending makes things interesting.. maybe allowing bungie to expand on the universe at a later time

Someone explain something about the ending to me...

How did the Arbiter make it back, but Chief is left on the ship? I saw the Arbiter get into a cockpit, did he fly off in something and leave him or what?
:lol

The ship got cleaved in half if you watch the after credits scene carefully. I presume that the ship got half way into the warm hole/vortex/whatever when it engaged the warp.

you've got to be kidding.

Story:

I dont think they make it clear enough that the ship breaks in half. I REALLY love how much value Bungie places on narrative but I wish they would just tone the ambition down a little bit and make it easier to understand. Now I consider myself to be intelligent but I always find the Halo story difficult engage with on a sci-fi/geek level. If only they didnt try to add something new at every opportunity it wouldnt seem so convoluted.

Has anyone got the triple kill achievement!? If so, on which mode did you do it?

I've done multiple stuff for achievements, still they don't unlock. and YES it was on ranked matches.

It has to be in a ranked Free For All match (Lone Wolves playlist). A lot of the achievements are in FFA only, which is kind of annoying because I would have had a lot of them by now. I thought Bungie said the multiplayer achievements wouldn't be only in ranked games? And now they're only ranked and only FFA?

The most ridiculous one is Killing Frenzy: kill 10 opponents without dying in ranked FFA. Since Lone Wolves is 5 players, that means you need to kill everyone twice, then get two more kills before dying.

That's basically impossible unless you're massively underranked in FFA, right? So the only way for most people to get it is to be lucky in your first few games. Or wait for the ranks to reset, I guess.

On the other hand maybe I just suck too much, but I would be surprised if anyone could get a Killing Frenzy in a fair FFA match.

just camp with a sniper and you should get it eventually

Yeah, that's annoying. I've had a killing frenzy in a normal match and I was kind of surprised that I didn't get the achievement.

So, just for some additional clarification:

Truth needed
humans/forerunners to activate the rings? Why then didn't they activate right away? also miranda sux and i'm glad she got it

Also:

Not to many space scenes.. what I wouldn't give for a return of the jedi or revenge of the sith like space battle between the humans and the covenant above earth

*splooge**edit whoo.. good thing that was a minor spoiler

Sooo... anybody up for starting a group dedicated to finding that last skull?

IWHBYD was a hard one to find on Halo 2, so there's no doubt this one will be hard (Not to mention ferrex said it's " hidden in ways you cannot yet even imagine").

The one where you need a quad kill in ranked FFA is worse. You need a lot of luck if you hope to get that one, or be playing with friends and help each other get it on purpose

I have a question about the general plot of all three games of the series. I haven't read any of the books.

-If the Forerunner wanted to wipe out the Flood, why keep samples of the Flood in all of their installations? The re-emergence of the Flood would not have happened if they hadn't been left sitting on the Halos for no reason.
-Why are the Forerunner extinct, if they supposedly built the shield worlds to protect themselves from their Halo activation? Did they forget about this?
-If the humans are the Forerunner, which I believe they are... why are they so primitive?

I guess the last two can be explained by saying that the Forerunner did hide on the shield worlds, and in some Metroid Prime Chozo way, decided to live in technological seclusion on Earth after emerging from the shield world thing... but that seems sketchy, and how would they devolve to cavemen and shit?

And nothing explains their fetish of keeping the most dangerous force in the galaxy alive after wiping out all life to destroy it.

Why aren't my screenshots showing up on bungie? I took them, and they supposedly uploaded, yet they aren't up on the site (keep in mind I took the shots ~20mins ago)

Doesn't Truth reveal that Humans are Forerunner too?
There's something up with the audio in the cutscenes. Can barely hear the dialogue sometimes.

Oh and does anyone want to hit up some Co-op?

You probably just need to wait a little longer. Bungie's servers are being hammered right now. Some of my games don't show up for hours it seems.

Why ?

Playing with friends = having good time with them

At the end of any games, all of them were complaining. For them (and for me) it would be the same as playing with perfect strangers. No talk, no fun, no epic jokes, no epic retort, no laugh, nothing. No spirit.
I hyped so much my friend about Halo 3 that I even feel a bit guilty about it.

You know, no need to argue about it. It can't be helped, it's like that.
I totally understand that it doesn't make difference when you play for real, when you have to be totally focused, you don't speak unless it's really necessary.
That's not why I am playing online, that's all.

Mmh, having to press a button (that makes you vulnerable by the way) every time that you want to say anything - even for a thanks or a warning - is not exactly a viable solution for me.
We wanted to speak freely like we always do in any game till now. Bungie won't change it, it can't be helped, too bad. Halo 3 doesn't offer what I expect from a multiplayer game.

Yea, everyone's saying that shit in the third game.
But does that mean that humans ARE the Forerunner, or perhaps were created directly by the Forerunner (which still requires the Forerunner to survive their activation of the Halos)?

I was kind of shocked when I started playing multiplayer and noticed they kept the cropped screen, that was probably my biggest dissapointment in the beta...why wouldn't they improve on something like that? I'm guessing a simple patch later in the future wouldn't fix this up...but I could be wrong.

Probably been brought up maaaaany times in this thread earlier, but I don't have the willpower to go through it all heh.

Hey there's a little something called private chat on XBL. You can join that with your friends and talk through everything.

missing out on a great single player experience and a super fun multiplayer game because you have to press, not hold, a button on the d pad to talk, isn't rational or picky, it's amazingly stupid.

your loss though buddy.

Finished on normal, enjoyed the story and happy I managed to be completely spoiler-free. Some interesting events packed in there. And I thought the ending (including post-credit) stated things clearly.

Now playing Heroic and in late mission Level 3, collecting skulls along the way. Some of these I can't imagine would be found in any normal fashion, like the one found by pulling back immediately to get under a floor section as a specific fall initiates. Yeah...

Anyway, a satisfying and eminently replayable SP campaign as usual for the series. And, definitely, Heroic difficulty makes you start taking even Grunts pretty damn seriously.

Finally we get the ball rolling with some story discussion. The way I understood things
Forunners created humans
. I remember reading a terminal entry
Librarian saying he created a new garden aka Eden.

I thought that was a pretty good picture.

Finished on normal. Second to last level was not so spectacular but I love the last level. Much better than Halo 2 SP. I probably could have saved about five posts over the last 36 hours if I had realized that the replays were still stored even if only the most recent one was showing on the menu. Screenshot uploading still seems kinda random but still a great feature.

Ok, finally got through the game, here's some final impressions.

First of all, I understand why Bungie kept showing Level 3 (Tsavo Highway) to the press, it's definitely one of the best levels in the game. Level 4 ain't bad either so is the
Silent Cartographer
-like level later in the game. Overall, I felt the game was uneven between different levels, some awesome while others average. This micmics Halo 2's inconsistent design.

I really like the Forerunner structure makeover the series received. Designs, patterns and colors are so much more intricate. The
bridge
in one of the later levels is particularly gorgeous. I was also impressed by the vibrant, organic feel of the
Floor lair
in the two levels they are featured. In fact, most of the
Flood creatures
are the most improved among the game's
enemies/friends
.

The game also outdoes itself with some of the skyboxes. Especially nice is all the details and different battles in the far distance.

The game asks you to fight too many
scarabs
, IMHO. One, maybe two if you really want to push it, is more than enough.
Scarabs battles
are not the kind you can fight your way through quickly so it can sometimes drag on a bit. They feel like
bosses
and not quite the 30 seconds of fun Bungie is known for.

While I was initially impressed by the soundtrack, it maybe recycles too much material later on.

Earlier today, I expressed criticism over the voice acting, you can add Gravemind to that mix. Bad. Truth is like a completely different (and one-dimensional) character now. Why?

Despite the high production values of the cut-scenes, the story is pretty straightforward, kinda rushed and even childish. Not to say the previous Halos had award-winning stories, but compared to Halo 1's mysterious tale and Halo 2's over-ambitious take, Halo 3 pales in comparison. It's alsmost as if the 3 games were done by three different developers (with this area).

Speaking of rushed, while development of the game was not, there were a couple of areas where a level could have been added, the
Elites and Brutes fleets
engaging one another for example. The Campaign is relatively short.

Open chat in 4v4 matches with your party in both ranked and unranked. Not sure off the top of my head what the chat settings were for custom games. And you must be an amazing player to really notice the fraction of a second you've lost in either movement or looking to tap up on the D-pad, that's genuinely impressive, kudos.

I'm only on the 7th mission, but I'm not buying that the horrible Flood level that's been talked about is worse than the Library in Halo. They would have to really work hard to make it worse than the Library. :lol

I think so too. Dunno about the
Eden thing, but he said you are the "sons" of...that's creation to me.At the very least evolutionary creatures.

When you go on bungie.net and look at your friends list and rank by game type, what is that skill thing representative of? It shows a 36 for me, but that matches neither my rank or EXP.
