Story question:

If the Ark isn't on Earth, how did we survive the first detonations of the Halos. Did the Forerunners put us in the Ark temporarily, or did something else happen?

Having a blast so far but I'm surprised its not getting more hell for the graphics which is just terrible in comparison to other 360 games. I have seen better textures in games like Kameo and PDZ. Theater mode is original and great but sucks you need gold to upload a image.

I think you are wrong, Halo 3 has some of the best lighting going on. Also the fact that it can render some huge ass levels, with all shitloads of physics, great A.I, the excellent lighting, and just a mass amount of enemies, vehicles, and overall shit going on...without nary a hitch is amazing.

Morg was there. Hammer match of Crazy King. 6 splatters in a ghost within like 30 seconds:lol . Putting a clip in my file share.

Wooo. Just had 21-0 game of Doubles VIP on Narrows. (I wasn't the VIP, by the way.)

This after a nice comeback from 7-2 or so against a couple of teabagging assholes. Ended up winning by 10 there. Video in file share for some lulz.

Cliffs: Halo 3 is amazing.

Just finished campaign. Heroic, solo. And by god i was rusty. Died 73 times on the first level :lol. Not helped by the fact that i managed to go into the big setpiece battle at the end with... a brute shot and a fucking needler. I quite honestly can't think of any worse possible weapon combo for that section... [edit: maybe something involving a plasma pistol would top it]

My only issue with the visuals are the human characters and the aliasing on my LCD.

Everything else = gravy IMO.

Not sure if it could take much more shit for the graphics, that seems to be the biggest complaint so far.

It's absolutely more convenient which is why you can do it in 4v4 and smaller matches, which is where the majority of the games take place in Halo. Now, could it have been left open chat for Big Team? Sure, but there's a cost associated with voice and packet loss and all kinds of things that could potentially degrade performance for you or other players as party sizes get bigger. So that's the trade off, PTT with five or more.
You know what ?
Ferrex already explained it all. It's always better to follow the discussion from the beginning.
And you know what is better ? Gamers don't really care that much about the reason for such decision or not. Not saying you did the wrong choice or not or it's interesting or not. Just saying that the result is here and it doesn't satisfy me (well, it's not a drama... well, I thought that was not a drama, but according to all the answers it seems that I am wrong. I never thought that I was so important).
There is other games where I have both, voice at any time and performance while playing.
Well maybe, I don't notice the fraction of a second that I lose due to the voice traffic (maybe... really maybe...), but you know there is people that don't give a fuck about the fraction they could lose by pressing a button. So...

I don't think you understand what ironic means.
Yes I do, and I used the wrong word that's true. I could explain it all, but my life isn't really the point here. And seriously there is things more important to discuss.

You're trying to talk to people in the middle of a duel?
It's so incredible to ask for help while you are defending a flag or a territory ???

i just grabbed my 360 controller and measured.

it's less than an INCH from the left thumbstick to the d-pad.

if an inch is what is preventing you from playing an excellent game just because you're too fucking lazy to move your thumb less than an inch to the d-pad to easily press a button once to talk, a move that i once again calculated to be LESS THAN A SECOND to push and then return to the thumbstick, then i'll give you one guess as to what that is.

get it yet?

it's fucking stupid.
Can you repeat it ? I think that I didn't understand it yet.

I will do it simple, you don't even need to grab your controller, really, you will see it's incredible.

Two great games. I speak a lot. My friends speak a lot.
The first game I have to push a button every time because I want to speak.
The second one I can speak freely.

So, if I prefer to chose the second game, it's stupid... well, why not. Whatever...

Well,
one of the terminals mentions a planet that the Forerunners found. It said the planet (Earth) was on the fringe of the nearest Halo's blast radius (if I remember right, its really hard to read them while worrying about them corrupting on you). We can only speculate, but this may mean that Earth is immune to the weapons. Or maybe I read it wrong and its something completely different. Who knows. Second, we now know that there is no disctinction between 'us' and the Forerunners (Guilty Spark: "You are Forerunner", etc etc.), besides knowledge, obviously. They were crafty. Us not so much, though.

In fact, I don't even know why I am arguing. No really what are you trying to imply ? That speaking freely is not more convenient than having to press a button ? Mmmh...
Pushing a button to talk is a compromise, no doubt. The alternative, though, is the potential for inconsistent voice delivery or choppy gameplay. Bungie went with the alternative. If their doing so matters that much to you, don't play the game. You've complained and that's fair enough, but you're verging into trolling territory now.

I never thought that was a correct way to answer to "fans" or "clients".
Don't ever change, Luke <3.

Well I've played a ton of Halo 3 and after it's all said and done I only have two real complaints.

1. The story is ass, even by videogame standards. Also, freezing the player in mid-run so phantom Cortana can spew some cliches is not amusing. Those effects only lasted 5 seconds and yet they still managed to annoy the crap out of me. Half-Life 2 came out three years ago Bungie, you had plenty of time to take notes.

2. Two or three of the Campaign levels are pretty bad. All in all the game has a similiar batting average to Halo 1 in terms of level design, but in a game this short the bad stuff really sticks out. I still claim the first two Halo games had terrible level design in places (when you have to put big glowing arrows on the floor just so the player knows where to go, you have problems. I'm looking at your, Assault on the Control Room.) and as a whole, Halo 3 is better. It still doesn't hold a candle to the best the FPS genre has to offer though.

Beyond that, this game is fucking amazing. Extended play will tell for sure, but right now I'm feeling that this is one of the best multiplayer console games ever made. Saved Films are A++, Forge is A++, multiplayer as a whole is A++. And while the Campaign has its low points, it has some pretty awesome levels too. Any time you have to take down a Scarab is a Saved Film moment and some of the vehicular sections are fuh-rucking fantastic. I was highly disappointed with Halo 2, but I think Bungie knocked Halo 3 out of the park for the most part. I can see myself playing it for a long, long time.

Look, people are never going to shut up about "Halo 2.5" because Halo 3 isn't amazing looking. It's good looking, but it reminds a lot of Halo 2. Period.

I hope would Halo 3 reminds you have Halo 2 and also 1! It's the same series! :lol

USPS is killing me. Still don't have the damn game. It's been in the DC area near me for 2 days and has yet to get to me. ugh. Got to play a little multiplayer today though at a friends house...was tits.... was tits....

Well that was wierd. At the start of Mission 7 the music and sfx kept going on and off and my 360's drive got loud(er). Turned it off for the night, will see if the disc is dirty tomorrow and hope that's it

Impressions from someone who didn't play the Halo 1/2 campaign & is a PC gamer:

Before I got Halo 3, I never really bought into the Halo hype. Sure, the game is great for consoles, but I never understood why it was universally lauded as one of the greatest FPS's of our time. Compared to PC shooters, the Halo series often lagged behind in more ways than one. However, after completing Halo 3, I can finally acknowledge the praise that I've been hearing so long.

Overall, the game was a blast. Fantastic gameplay, great soundtrack, incredible longevity, significantly improved graphics, and awesome art direction- I wouldn't have any doubts in saying that this is the best traditional FPS available on any console. Is it perfect? Not even close: I noticed many things in my first play through that I'd like to see improved (more enemy variety, bosses, etc). But when you take a step back and look at how perfectly Bungie executed the conclusion to the trilogy, you can't help but marvel their accomplishments.

I'm sure there are many people like me around GAF that never really understood gamers who relish in the Halo universe, and there will likely be people who continue to criticize the game for inconclusive faults without playing it (along with mentalities like "if it's popular, I have to hate it"). I really hope that people will open their stubborn eyes, like I have mine, and give Halo 3 a chance- it really is one of the best experiences of the year.

Totally agreed on all points. I'm not a Halo fan at all, but this game is definitely solid and is a good overall experience, especially the multiplayer. All in all, I kinda wish I had wii-mote functionality after playing MP3 to death (don't kill me), but I've really enjoyed all this game has to offer, although I will admit that the cutscenes suck hard in the sound department. I can barely understand what some of them are saying. :lol

I remember reading something very similar. I'll be more diligent on my second play through, but I'm pretty sure that's what went down
(Earth was out of range)

But the Forerunner were supposed to be killed by their own rings...

Yeah, but according to that Terminal I referenced (iirc) they created a new garden in the desert next to a tall mountain (Klimanjaro), they referenced Eden as well. So I'm guessing they created "life," or the foundations of it, on a new a new planet to keep their species from extinction.
That's how I understood things, but I'm probably wrong. Wish more people would discuss this stuff.

Just messed around in Forge with my roommate for about a half hour. 50% Gravity, Gravity Hammers, Rockets, and Mongooses = Fun. Got some great Saved Films out of it. I actually hit a Rocket back with the Gravity Hammer which somehow turned around mid flight, and flew back past me:lol

everything about this game is so fucking awesome. just spent the last 2 hours playing metagame... so awesome.

Anyone interested in Legendary co-op? I'm online right now and I'm on level 5. Just looking for some others to possibly join. List your gamertag if interested and I'll add you.
