The Official Halo 3 Thread

Wish there was a seperate H3 MP thread to avoid any chance at spoilers. Not gonna happen.
My initial impressions of the MP maps are just OK. I enjoy the Beta maps but a couple of the new maps were not that good IMO. I'll shut up for now until I get more playing time with them. Maybe I'm being too critical too soon. I'll give them time.
As far as graphics go I think single player and MP look fantastic. Maybe on an SD set it would look alot like H2 but luckily I don't need to worry about that.
Theater feature RULES! Already sent some friends pics and clips of myself pwning them.:lol

My one complaint with the sound so far is the balance of everything over my standard speakers. Time to hookup the 5.1 me thinks so I can start actually feeling the weapons.

level 4 spoilars

So,
how everyone who has the game take down the scarab. I did it twice, because the first time I missed the cuscene at the end. First time I just used those rocket turrets to drop it to it's knees, and went to go kill it. By the time I got there though a marine finished it off, WTF?

Second time through though, I jumped off the crane and made my way through the scarab. This was immensly more satisfying, as the feeling of movement on the scarab was unparraled. Very Shadow of the colossus.

One review said the combat was still stuck in 2001, man, if this is 2001 combat, why hasn't anyone else caught up?

Jumped on it, very SOTC like.

I got it at midnight, and blew through the first 5 levels on legendary with 3 other people- played the first mission on heroic by myself this morning...

long story short- i HIGHLY recommend doing it by yourself first- you can miss so much when theres 3 other people doing stuff

Are there more enemies when you play 4 player co-op?

Roommate = owned totale

He took the day off today. He pre-ordered the Legendary pack. He went to Futureshop this morning to pick it up. He buys it, comes home and he's all happy. I go to work and he gives me a call. The game is ONLY in French. He goes to return it, Legendary sold out.

I played through the first few levels in Normal last night, and I a little worried about the game's quality. It seems like they have traded enemies that are difficult to kill in favor of large numbers of easy-to-kill enemies. I'm concerned that the game hasn't really been balanced for singleplayer, and essentially assumes you will be in multiplayer co-op. So many enemies are thrown at you at once, it feels like too much of a crapshoot.

On the road to Voi, there is a scenario where you are pinned down by a turret and stuck fighting what is probably 9-12 Brutes. While you can kind of cheese your way through it in Normal, I have no idea how I'm supposed to get through something that ridiculous in Legendary (or if I'm even intended to do it alone). Never in Halo's Normal mode have I been tempted to put the controller down and just say "This is bullshit"....but I'd say I experienced that a couple times last night.

The decision to limit you to 2 grenades of each type is annoying as well. I'm not even sure what the new grenade is supposed to be for, but I'd gladly trade it for 2 more plasma grenades in my inventory. In general it seems like you either have more grenades than you know what to do with or you can't find any at all -- supplies aren't replenished with the regularity they were in previous games.

Fighting Brutes just isn't as satisfying as fighting Elites. Do Elites ever come back, or am I stuck with the power-armored monkey men?

Dude, it's because you're playing on Normal. Put it on Heroic or Legendary and the brutes are tough to take down without headshots.

On the wrapper. And could someone explain how to use these skulls????

First you have to find them, they're scattered throughout the game. Once you do that, you can active them.

Edit: Border, try playing on Heroic. Brutes behave much more intelligently on that setting. I was also surprised how smart they were when I played coop last night. They used much better tactics than some of my single player encounters.

How do you activate them? Sorry, I shuold have phrased it better.

Totally agree...

Also, is it true that
the terminals are only available on Heroic and Legendary
? (not a storyline spoiler)

I had to knock it down to Normal to complete level 3. The very last section of it, I just kept on getting destroyed trying to go through. Didn't help that on Heroic the checkpoints seem broken, yet on Normal, the checkpoints worked well and logically...

edit: blacked out a minor spoiler.

the
tanks
are pretty tough in this once since there's more than one at a time and you pretty much have to attack on foot. I died a couple times on that part, although I'm sure there's probably an easier way

i've beaten level 5 already.. i cant believe how quickly i am getting through single player.. it took me a week to beat gears single player and it was only 5hrs total.

I took a screenshot, and while it looks awesome im kinda dissapointed how every screenshot from every user is almost identical, it all looks so similar.

edit:

When I pause it says my game is closed.. when i select to open it, nothing happens. The menu closes but I open it again and my game is still closed.

Also, how do you score points in the campaign mode?!

When you're in the campaign lobby, hit X and you can toggle them on and off.

Edit: What exactly did border spoil, a set piece. Go play the game and stop refreshing the thread.

No. I discovered one on the final level in Normal mode. No, actually replaying the level on easy (though I had finished it on Normal earlier).

Anyone able to address my question?

How do I save film clips when watching the videos in Theatre? When I bring up the controls the record button is greyed out. Although it places markers in the timeline it doesn't seem to allow me any option to save.

Guys I need your help! I started playing my copy (german one) and even though all the menu text is in english the voice acting is in german. How do I fix this? My Xbox is set to english.

Please, help me GAF!

I expect that they will be harder to kill in a higher difficulty setting, but that doesn't really encourage me to know that there will be a dozen guys that are way more tough. With that many enemies, one of them will get an angle on you pretty quick. It's the numbers that are the problem really -- I guess we'll see.

LEARN TO USE SPOILER TAGS
Nothing I said is related to the story -- it's not even a major setpiece, just one dusty waypoint. If "9-12 Brutes and a turret" is a spoiler, then dry your tears and stop reading the thread because I'm sure others will be even more detailed. If a few enemies and a gun is a spoiler to you, why even read this thread?

WOW!!

I just got done playing, I'm up to mission 6 on Heroic (about half way through).

Absolutely amazing so far, my LE to my surprise arrived in perfect condition, not a scratch on the disc, but I've now put the game disc in a seperate case to be sure.

Mission by mission impressions:

Mission 1 -
Great mission, a great introduction into the game. The battles towards the end are ferocious, the atmosphere of it is just something else too.

Mission 2 -
I actually have to say it's one of my faves so far, just constant battling and fun with some interestings elements. The part where the drones come out got me so scared.

Mission 3 -
Just non-stop vehicular fun and battles. What more could one ask for?

Mission 4 -
Definitely my favourite, the scarab encounter :o

Mission 5 -
Moody and atmospheric. Reminded me of Quarantine Zone in Halo 2.

Mission 6 -
Not done much but let me just say this seems like a mission straight out of the first Halo. The area is a bit too big for my liking. Overdid it a bit.

i find the brutes to be perfectly functional enemies, but all the fancy armor in the world can't make space monkeys cool -- and the way their clothes fall off when they're near death really doesn't help. i'm still hoping that some plot switcheroo reintroduces elites as your mainstay adversaries.

Some of us don't have it yet? Hi.

A little consideration for those at work/school/otherwise unable to get to a midnight opening or not in the US would, you know, be really nice.

this game is pretty short. i played for 3 hours last night and beat 5 missions. so i guess it took around 5 hours for my friends to finish it, on legendary.

That sets up the mood for something that is happening and then the junior quotes you explains when it happens. No one wants to know about things that happen, I just saying try to be considerate, it may not seem a spoiler for you but it might set things up for other people that will ruin a part for them. Plus everyone has been considerate with the tags even when they truly weren't spoilers just to be safe, it's just considerate is all.

Edit: "Edit: What exactly did border spoil, a set piece. Go play the game and stop refreshing the thread."

Like Mcbradders said not everyone has it/ has had time to play it yet. Be considerate of your fellow gaffers.

Hey guys,

Im just jumping to the end of the thread to avoid spoilers but I am considering picking up a xbox for Halo 3 like I did for Halo 2 but its all about the story for me and I felt super sleighted by Halo 2 is the story in 3 enough to justify a purchase of the 360 and the game.?

if we get too hysterical about 'spoilers,' we won't be able to say much of anything about the game -- the thread will turn into a mess of black boxes we're afraid to highlight. i understand that some people don't want to know anything in advance, but i don't know why those people would be in here at all.

I can understand the wish to avoid major plot devices, however some of you really need to re-evaluate what you consider a spoiler if you wish to read this, and other game-specific threads.

Plot twists, endings, surprises are things that indeed should be spoiler tagged, simple matters of content such as borders post are not that revealing, and if that constitutes a game spoiling reveal to you I suggest avoiding the thread altogether.

Oh, also, I doubt there is but I'm hoping for a secret mode which is rendered entirely in the style of the sniper scope sight thing.

What's the best way to take down the Brutes?

So far I've been using lots of grenade and the shotgun, although it's hard to get in close to use it. What's the best medium range gun to use? They all seem kind of ineffective.

I understand where you're coming from but at least but until it launches every where it would be nice to be a little more cautious than usual. I could definitely see your point if europe and them had a midnight release last night also but they didn't. I'm sure others are in here to get impressions since they're pumped about it and those the reason they stay in the thread. Like someone saying how it's so much fun fighting brutes or it's awfully put together or whatever their opinion might be. I don't know I'm just putting it out there, I definitely understand your point though, I just think we should be careful until europe gets it in about another day.

It's not on the VCR, there's a pane of glass underneath.

It fucking red ringed on me during the OPENING CUTSCENE.

I'm roasting it in a towel right now. I swear to God, if this doesn't work....
