The Official Halo 3 Thread

Seems like the dutch stores are very strict about the release date. I even was at the desk at a local toystore where the employee admitted that they got H3 behind the desk. I was about the convince her to sell it to me, only to hear some sound coming from her pc.

It was a mail from the toystore HQ saying that stores weren't allowed to sell the game before wednesday.

My thoughts:

- WAAAAY too short. I was a slow ass idiot and took nine hours (although I can see myself doing it in six; I wasted a lot of time looking at the pretty trees).

- I miss Metroid Prime 3 controls. There. I said it.

- A bit subjective, but the single player mode is a bit... cold. Like "designed by committee" cold. There are a lot of segments that feel waaaay too calculated, like not a single battle was left to chance. You are having fun all the way, but I really felt that I was not going to be surprised by some crazy stuff happening.

- It is, in any case, a really, really good game. I had fun all the way, with a few exceptions; the only problem is that it feels like the best iteration of a well-proven model, not something new, fresh and creative. It is a by-the-numbers FPS; Bioshock is a better game just my moving away from the yet-another-bald-space-marine framework, and some really clever plot development. Bioshock fails because it does not push its new ideas hard enough, Halo 3 fails because... well, it doesn´t have much new to offer.

Conclusion: I had a ton of fun, I really see it as a great FPS, it doesn´t do much else than being good craftmanship, not art.

Same here in Belgium (at least in game stores). They're not budging before tomorrow.

Hey Luke I'd appreciate it if you or someone from bungie could comment in my thread about the framerate. Thanks. It's a mess for me.
Someone from Bungie already has posted in your thread. Look harder.

halo gives the tools, players create the art
so easy.

ps.
what is this "manbabies" on the title?

How do I claim a skull? I picked it up and carried it to the end of the level but it didn't do anything (it didn't show up in the list). Anyone know?

Neither could I! But just look now!

http://www.bungie.net/stats/halo3/default.aspx?player=KidInsomnia

I don't know if this is the right way or if I'm just using a work around BUT...

1) Take your screenshot
2) UPLOAD it manually to your File Share
3) On Bungie.net go to your File Share
4) Click on the Screenie to bring up the Pop Up of it
5) Click on SAVE TO MY GALLERY

IT IS NOW IN YOUR HI-RES SCREENSHOT, AND SERVICE RECORD GALLERY.

It can now be used as your Money Shot on your profile page, JUST LIKE MINE!

:D

Hey, Ghal, mebbe this ought to be in the OP if people are having troubles?

Is this your first Halo game?

You'll get used to it and it will eventually become really fun.

I remember having the same reaction on the original Halo. Also don't forget to use the powerslide.

Have you ever played any of the other halo games? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just curious. It controls the same way its always controlled.

Whenever you pick it up it should just give you the achievement right then and there. I played co-op with my little brother since he knew where most of them are and he even picked them up and I got the achievement. I can now select it in the campaign meta-game options.

It's important to note that not EVERY skull gives you an achievement.

Oh it's true. It started yesterday with the mods changing the thread title to irrelevant things about 7 times. Than they deleted the official thread and started a new one with a review quote that was bashing halo and had spoilers in it. Then they brought it back and called us all manbabies for being upset that a 19k thread had been deleted.

Anyone try the Legendary bonus discs?

I'm not ready to play Halo 3 itself just yet (want to wait a couple hours so that I can enjoy the game at full volume 5.1), so I'm watching those Halo 1 and 2 cutscenes while eating breakfast (hey, I have Halo on the brain). I'm rather disappointed, however, at how poor they look. I mean, the quality is really low. It's not that it's low resolution or anything, rather, the colors are muted and crushed (and my set is calibrated very nicely, so that isn't the issue) and the image is kind of noisy. I'm viewing it on my PS3 and almost thought Bungie had added some sort of anti-PS3 protection (which makes no sense, of course). It was that bad. :P

It is kind of neat how they handled it, though. They spliced in various bits of gameplay footage along with the cutscenes to give them a proper feeling of progression.

We sure did a good job on pissing you off.

I thought it was childish yes, but I didn't lose sleep over it.

Actually, I'm not really sure who looked worse, the mods for doing it or the people for complaining about it.

I guess it's pretty clear that you've never played a Halo game before if you don't know how to drive a Warthog, so I'll be nice a share the Golden Rule for any new guy - the Warthog drives in the direction of the little blue arrow that's in the middle of the screen...so if you're facing sideways onscreen and you hold up on the left analog to drive, you will turn in the direction of the reticle...

It shouldn't take you that long to get used to it after knowing this...

Well, my alarm went off as I was playing Halo 3 campaign.. needless to say.. I pulled an all nighter and I'm maybe halfway through on heroic.

A few twists I never expected, as well as some well known dialogue in context.. interesting to say the least.. what an awesome game.. and I haven't even played mp, forge, or theater yet.

Just use the archives. In short this thread got "deleted", a new shitty one got made, people bitched, manbabies were declared.

I wasn't here for it, but being pissed for real story spoilers being revealed by a damn mod no less is pretty understandable... I don't know about you...

Hey guys can someone please help me with this skull? Highlight if you think you can help...

So Im on The Ark level and the skull is on a forerunner structure. Its that bit where the flying sentinals are doing laps around that little loop.... the skull is up on a pillar and its real hard to jump to. Any advice as to how to get there and whether its just a grenade jump would be great. Thanks.

I actually just glanced over that part of the post, so I don't even know what was spoiled. No need to tell me, either. Anyway, people should just forget about it and move on.

Wow, the first level is everything I love about the Halo franchise, then I played with the theater for ages and checked out the insane amount of shit going on in battles and took some neat pics but bungie.net is telling me I've never played it even though I unlocked achievements.

Apart from that though its just sublime so far with holy shit good action.

LISTEN PEOPLE: IF YOU ARE PLAYING CO-OP THE CAMPAIGN WILL BE VERY QUICK.

Even if youre playing Heroic co-op 2+ players you will fly through the campaign. There are a few reasons for this. The obvious ones like more players so you get the enemies quicker. But the main reasons I found we were getting through the levels too quick when I was playing 4 player Heroic were the fact that no one ever stopped to smell the roses. No one stopped to explore. No one even stopped to take a piss! Its just go, go, go! Sometimes thats for competitive reasons and other times its just because 4 people tend to create a momentum that just doesnt exist with 1 or even 2 players.

So before you try and get all cutesy and complain about the campaign why not disclose what difficulty and how many players you had with you? Credibility means a lot. I deliberately bailed out of my group at level 6 and am playing the rest solo. I will play a Legendary co-op from start to finish though.

Yeah, I played the first level Solo and it took me like an hour I think, just for that level.

How's the commentary? Is it filled with infinite win like I've been thinking it would be?

Yes, I used a grenade jump. I got it on my first try the first time, and then when I was trying it later with some friends, it took us, like, thirty tries. So just keep at it. We couldn't seem to get any vehicles up there, so it looks to me like grenade jumping is the only way to do it.

what a great game. I just love putting on the front-end menu while surfing the game. I LOVE the fact that they stuck with the interface from the beta. Im so sleepy, its 530 here in Nor Cal. Good night all, what a great launch...even though I blew out a wall socket in my apt.

A huge 1080 sammy, a laptop, 360 with the hd dvd player and the modem adaptor all plugged in was a bad idea. The serge protector and one wallsocket do not work anymore. Oh well, this is the first time this happened to me, so I learned my lession
