I'm going to be borrowing Halo 3 from a friend of mine later this week. And one question I have, regarding the multiplayer, is if I'll need to purchase the Mythic Map Pack to be able to join you guys. I would prefer not to buy it, considering I will probably pick up ODST in September.

Link?

And down with the laser!

I'm not exactly a vet, but i know a lot of GAF custom games are played on Sandbox. But I'd be willing to do a separate room/matchmaking party with someone without them, at least for a while.

Do you mean for customs? If so, then you would need to buy the MMP (we play lots of Sandbox maps).

Talking about regular matchmaking? You'll be limiting options when playing with some HaloGAf regulars because they have the MMP when you don't.

It's up to you. If you've held out this long, I don't think one more month will hurt. :p

Alright, thanks. I guess I'll just play public matches for now, until I buy ODST.

Seriously. That movie rocked. My. Socks. Off. I was buzzing for days thinking about it. Been a LONG time since a movie hit me that hard.

Even if he never does Halo - and it sounds like he won't - I'm glad the aborted attempt got him the chance to make District 9.

Yeah I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, it blew me away. Very unique movie, loved it. :D

Here's a video I found of the ODST event. I haven't watched it yet, but it doesn't look like there is any ODST footage, just showing off the truck and how it was setup. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zywn1YRvt48. This guy also got Joe Staten to do a grunt voice - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXmkpHLfgxk :lol

kanbo from H.B.O. posted up his impressions of the ODST event today. Hmm, I wonder why Bungie didn't want people to change the character settings so bad? Apparently one guy was "almost asked to leave".

[edit] So I watched that other guy's video that I posted a few posts ago... looks like they weren't able to film. Why? They've been showing the hell out of ODST Firefight since E3. What's different now? =(

Sorry that I bailed tonight guys, one of my friends came in after splitting up with his partner so I went to watch movies and drink beer. Games were fun albeit horribly unbalanced for the most part. :P

I was playing terrible for the most part too, I only played well in one game. I might get back on later.

Lasers are good because they easily take out definitely, I'd say with the stickies sometimes not killing ghosts and choppers and warthogs lasers definitely should stay, and most of the time missile pods don't work against people who know what they are doing (when you hear the sound drive fast and change direction)

Lasers should also stay because they get rid of the NOOB GETS KILLS things aka vehicles, no skill involved they are for bad kids and shouldn't be in Halo. I know you guys have fun with them though.

Sweet, sounds like there's more surprises to come/leak.

All lasers do is allow one team to have uncontested vehicles while the other team's vehicles are exploded upon spawning. The only way to get rid of vehicles is to have lasers on each side, so plentiful that one team can't control them. That was the old heavies, that's what you want, you're as bad as Shishka.

Playing that Standoff and Avalanche game without the laser was really fun. You guys need to get rid of the fuel rod canons and whatever other blacklisted items are on the map and submit it to Atlas. Heavies without lasers is a godsend. Never stumbled upon the missile pods on either map, may just be anecdotal, could help a bit if they were more visible or on faster respawn. Though I didn't think the maps got unbalanced without them.

Still not feeling these huge custom games though, I lag to hell and back in each game.

Very true. Up until this point, I'd really sort of agreed with juices on most things, but it is pretty obvious now that his decisions would be as bad/worse than Shisha's. Seriously, why would anyone want the old Heavies? Come on, juices. : /

Potential story spoilers maybe? There could be a whole host of reasons.

Gah. I can't believe Devin is nowhere to be found.

Awesome, spectacular games tonight.:D Avalanche and Valhalla without the laser... they are even better (if that's even possible with Valhalla). Ghal, your Avalanche worked really well, but too bad we didn't get to try out your version of Valhalla.

Vhfive, your maps are awesome. I loooovve GAFfer's Delight. But remember: Vhalhalla and Work Bravho. ;)

Gotta admit, I was kind of skeptical about removing the laser from the maps. After playing Ghaleon's Avalanche and vh's Standoff (Standovh?? Happy, Dax?), I didn't miss it one bit. The additions of the "forbidden" weapons (beam and FRG) made things much more interesting. Wish they could be in MM.

Went a cool +121 tonight with three frenzies and one rampage. Now, why can't I play like this in matchmaking?

Ghavalanche (yeah) was crazy fun, but needs some tweaking. Gonna yank the sword - no need for anything to allow camping in the keyhole, really. Thinking seriously about yanking the sniper rifles.

And another vote for GAFers Delight. The Neutral Assault game was epic.

Also, sorry to bail so suddenly. The wife took off to see a movie and I was suddenly in charge of putting the kids to bed.

I approve.

And fuckers were able to tie within the last fifty seconds of that game.:lol

Edit: YES! SCOFFISH IS BACK!

This. I hate reeling a ghost in to splatter me, hopping and sticking it, only to have it just lose some health and come back to get me.

I liked Ghaleon's Avalanche better than the default for sure. I just hated how we got dominated at Keyhole every game.

Liking the name. Taking sword out will help a lot.

I wanted to get back in but it seems customs has died and the MM has begun. I don't suppose any space will open up in the near future?

Edit: Actually, I can't be bothered. Fun games anyway.

If you want more map movement outside of the keyhole, then I suggest (aside from AR starts) you follow through with deleting or at least moving the snipers. I still found myself gravitating towards the keyhole area to get snipe and spawn camping (or at least trying to) the other side.

Best and only good thing I did all night. The whole play was smooth as hell. Props to whoever drove me.

Apparently ODST is featured in a new "PU", a dutch magazine. A GT user reports on what it says. He didn't post any spoilers in this quote, but the thread does contain spoilers if you haven't seen the leaked achievements, so I won't link to it (he may also be posting scans there, and that's against the rules here). What surprises me is apparently the magazine says it takes about 10 hours to complete on normal, and 8 hours for skilled players.
- ADD-on is a insult
The campaign will take about 10 hours to complete on normal. "A shitload of time with firefight". And ofcourse the new MP maps.

- Very story driven
It's alot more story driven than halo 3, and the difference is big between the two(not gameplay wise). "You really start to care for the squad". Halo 3 ODST campaign just as good as halo 3? Well he says it's even better!

- Replay value (campaign)
When you first play halo 3 ODST some doors will be locked. But after you completed it some of those will open, but that depens on how you played. Awesome? Yes indeed.

- Gameplay
No shields, I know you already knew that. But he added that it's a big difference on how you play the game. He called it "Fresh" and that it added alot tactics.

- Maps/firefight
Most of the firefight maps are ripped from the singleplayer's most memorable locations. The diffculty will become ridicously hard, and I quoted: " Every map requires different tactics, and team work is a must" and, : "Most people won't be able to complete firefight, wait scrap "most" make that just a few." and: " Get out of my way gears of war horde mode, you bore me!". Sound good? Hell yea.

- Halo-haters
This is what he wrote: " Everybody should give halo 3; ODST a chance, and yes I'm talking to you haters."

- Verdict
Halo 3:ODST is the refreshing game that the halo universe needed, and it turned out be EXTREMELY good, And that is a good sign for HALO: REACH.

I'm very excited about halo:ODST now, it seems that it turned out to be worthy title of the halo franchise.

NOTES: I tried my best to translate most of the stuff, it was in dutch.

Yeah boy!

And I definitely liked... Ghavalanche?...as well. I'm not exactly sure why the FRG is blacklisted, but I think the map would play pretty well anyway, and would definitely be a big step up over Snowy Lazorpalooza.

Yeah I just got done tweaking Ghalvalance. Sword and snipers are gone. On such an open map, I kind of like the idea of being able to see players from long distances but not take them out. I also adjusted most of the vehicle spawn times, some faster, most slower. Replaced the sword with a goodie that won't help with camping. Replaced the the snipers with AR's. Figured, if I'm going to put my namesake on it, go all the way. :p

Also finished up Ghalhalla.

Edit: yikes, those impressions. It's a month to go yet! :(

Don't take Dax's advice on naming things :(

I want that but not in Heavies, I just want no vehicles. Vehicles are for bitches who can't aim.

It would be nice to get confirmation on the campaign's length so Ghaleon would be able to post it in the official thread OP. Some non-HaloGAF'ers tend to be very ignorant when it comes to our favorite series and will predictably stop by to whine once again about it being a $60 product.
