Damn, just logged off

OMG!

The elevated platforms in the center are eerily similar to the central structure in my next map.

Although used differently they are the same height, width & length and form a similar visual break between the bases.

and, i just noticed that ODST contains an element which has always been a pet gaming peeve of mine. It's an immersion-destroying item which i thought i would never see in a Halo game. Yet, i am going to break HaloGAF tradition and 'just let it go'.

Oh yes. I have this pent up desire to talk about every permutation I've ever done - for every block I've placed on a map, I tried three others in that spot - so by all means. :)
I know how that feels. It's like I spend more time thinking about an individual block's placement than I do playing the map. Drives me crazy. Would be a lot easier if the map woulda cooperated in the first place :P

My suggestion is to put it on top of the large flat area above the ramp, pushed over to the defense side...
Sounds about right, I'll give that a go.

The camo spot would be a good one, I think. I used the grav lift several times to get into the base, but I don't know if everyone else knew it was there. And by placing it back under cover, attackers can grab it and move to different sides of the base to use it. Where it is now, you basically have to grab it and use it right away because it's so exposed.
Probably a combination of the fact that no one knew where they were and that they were on 10 second respawns so before the first one extinguished it would respawn.

few clusters of spawns - a half dozen locations or so - might bring more order to the spawning (see next point).

[Next point]
Yeah, that's something I overlooked. I sprinkled the spawns to whatever individual location I felt was safest to avoid spawn killing. But that precaution doesn't seem necessary and in doing the spawns may disorientate players. It's something that doesn't effect me as I know the map in and out but for most players consistency is probably better. I'll adjust things accordingly and see how it flies next time.

I think your map is right about where Entrenched was before you nerfed it - it worked, but just needed a little tweaking to go up a notch.
Thanks. Brouhaha's been quite a stubborn son of a bitch but I wanna see what I can do with it.

Nice, symmetrical ground Sandbox map called Shakedown. Ran through it and looks pretty damn amazing. I wonder how it plays. Seems to support 5v5, and honestly I don't think 6v6 would be bad, either.

Wow, that person did an outstanding job with his forgery. The map is gorgeous. I'm a little afraid that the lack of routes onto the top of the middle bridge will make it frustrating, but I'm really looking forward to playing on it.

Reading back over what I've missed in the last few hours.

When shotty snipers comes up, I don't even use the shotgun. I specifically refuse to use it. You can ask Diabolical Bagel for confirmation on this.

Yeah, we sure do. I will use it but very rarely, I'll only use it if, say, their entire team is on me with shotguns - that is the only circumstance in which I'll lower myself to their level.
Also... when are we hitting that playlist again? I need to get my 45 in it. :P

As for control types? I play bumper/default/inverted. I'm one of those freaks that can actually use both invert/non invert and all the different stick layouts quite easily. :P
But seen as the first fps I ever played was invert as default it's just always felt more natural. I'd probably still be using legacy if it weren't for some games in the ps2/xbox era not having it available.
Been playing invert since I was 4 and a half years old (yeah I started gaming very early :P) so I'm not about to change to normal unless I am forced to.

Also, what is with the people not caring about Johnson? That old man always lent me his sniper rifles and his hogs... I have a special place for him in my heart *sobs* :P

That map does look pretty sweet. The forging is among the best I've ever seen.

@ Butane, I'd double the width of the walkways.

(Mostly for the lulz when folks try and use my controller)

nah, not really, it's just what I got used to. I'm left-handed. I wish I'd learned Default from the start.

I use Legacy (yes, because I'm old) and people weren't too fond of playing after me for the PAX FFA's last year :lol

"Why the hell is strafe on the Right Stick!?!?!??!??!"

Sucks now because BF1943 doesn't have it (neither did Shadowrun or Biosuck) so I have to use Default sticks. So my first game of BF1943 if I've played Halo recently is terrible and vice versa.

But, I'm like you Claude and have never learned to switch because Halo offers me the luxury of using what I want.

And I don't think I'll be able to get Sgt. Johnson for ODST. I'm going to be moving to LA this Fall and since I don't have a concrete address (aka don't know where I'm going to live there yet), I won't be able to pre-order it from anywhere. :(
This is how to get the Sgt. Johnson preorder code right now:

Best Buy has preorder cases of ODST on the shelf. These contain the Sgt. Johnson code.

I don't remember if you can use a receipt at any Best Buy store or not, but I want to say you can, so you can possibly get your $5 credit at another one if you have one nearby.

I use Green Thumb. I don't like reloading with the face buttons that Bumper Jumper makes you do.

I used to use Boxer but my grenade throws were terrible and I never stuck anybody. Green Thumb lets me melee and throw grenades well. However my melee attacks are slower than others who use the trigger or a button, because it's faster to hit "B" or Left Trigger repeatedly than it is the right stick. This is most noticeable in sword battles, where I lose a lot because they're swinging faster than me with the non-lunge.

.

You could also pre-order at Best Buy to the get code/box, then just return your pre-order without the box. They won't ask for it back since all they use is the receipt anyway.

I was inverted, boxer in Halo 1. I am now non-inverted/bumper jumper. My wife is still inverted boxer.

I'v been really bored at work today and started to read this page. It's pretty cool to see how hard those guys worked to get this game shipped and also fun to read the updated game content that made some of highschool so fun. It somewhat reminds me of the early ODST updates L.M Smith would drop.

It may me small and unnoticeable to most players, but for me, i have forever quit games within the first minute of playing due to the distraction. It is fine in arcade games, but for games which require immersion for full enjoyment it is a deal breaker.

When you headshot a Grunt, blood, bone and little grey matter should fly from the wound. Not little numbers preceded by a + sign.

3766430250_f063acbb22_o.jpg

I mean, what? Is your HUD connected to the Bounty Hunter Database? Is little Grunty's ghost a Sesame Street fan? Does the Grim Reaper moonlight as an Accountant?

Halo 3's Campaign did it right. Little numbers off to the side, and only when you turned Campaign Scoring on. Please, someone tell me this will be a similar option for Firefight. If not i will try my best to ignore it and not let it detract from my enjoyment of the game. I am going to enjoy the hell out of it for years to come.

You may now make fun of me and tell me why i am wrong.

It's not a game. IT'S LIFE. I don't see little numbers next to people in real life when I kill them, and this game should mirror that experience.

Nokyard, I completely agree. I hate seeing numbers and such appear right on your kill. Especially in CoD4 MP, it never felt like I was killing anyone. *shoot, shoot, shoot, numbers, person gone, dissatisfied customer*

Actually... it never felt like the guns did anything anyway, oh well. Halo 3 does it the right way.

Bungie isn't the kind of developer that likes to go into gory detail. The lack of gore doesn't bother me personally; it's something I can do without.

It's a game. :|

Edit: I can see how the numbers popping up like that can be annoying. Halo 3's campaign did it non intrusively because the numbers popped up at the bottom right of the screen.

In the age of CoD4 giving players a blowjob for finding to shoot button, you better get used to it.

So that's why there are so many Prestige Level 10s in that game. They got the official CoD4 kill-activated electric fleshlight with their pre-order.

*pre-orders MW2*

I'm curious, do you feel the same way about the multiplayer medals in Halo 3? They are larger and more prominent than either sets of digits, although they don't pop in the center of the screen or over your target.

While you guys complain about seeing numbers, I will say I wish that there was a way to customize/remove elements of the HUD, such as the helmet/visor line thing.

i sent you a fr but i think your list is full :(. i was hoping to catch you online working on it at some point and fly around to check it out.

I agree in principle, but bear in mind that you're looking at Firefight. You know, the mode where you are trapped in an arena with other players, a pool of shared lives between you, with regenerating weapons/health, skulls turning on and off, while scoring medals and killing streaks and racking a high score with point multipliers while fighting off an infinite stream of enemies pouring in at all times. I'm not sure what kind of immersion you are going to be, um, immersed in that a little +85 is going to break.

The point of Firefight isn't to immerse you in the atmosphere of New Mombassa. That's what the campaign is for, and there you have the option of turning scoring on.

So late to the halogaf party, I feel like I'm cleaning up! You've brought me joy, drama, tears and Dax. It's been such a long year lurking, I don't know where to begin.

First things first though; BR, Default, Warthog, BTB, Avalanche.

Uhh..why is it that Rumble Pit requires ALL DLC..yet Lone Wolves does not...isn't that kind of backwards...

I'm on my 2nd account b.c i got banned for 1 day b/c of my motto and all i can play is fucking lone wolves and hardly anything else.

Oh, and
WTTHGP: Welcome to the HaloGAF Party.

You know a group of fans are to be pitied when they find the most asinine thing like numbers appearing during a kill to hate on an opposing game.
I came in this thread thinking "What the hell is left to say about Halo?"
I left this thread knowing that its just to hate on Call of Duty.

Lots of things, especially when the new maps come out. Bungie Weekly Updates, HaloGAF customs, GAF maps, GAF Halo 3 video clips. The list goes on.

The rest of your post is too easy.

Lone Wolves will always be no-DLC required so that anyone can get the achievements.
