Gr.

Also, I sent you a PM. Check your PMs, please.

Team Flag is awesome because of how much more weighted One Flag CTF is compared to Muli Flag. I don't know if it's just me, but I like One Flag more than Muli Flag. I think it's because you don't have to worry about getting the other team's flag whilst worrying about yours.

Anybody else feel the same way?

For certain maps, one flag is awesome. I don't enjoy it on symmetrical maps as much though, like say, The Pit or Narrows. Multi flag on those maps is a constantly evolving struggle to attack and defend, I enjoy that too. I just like capture the flag. Played like 20+ games yesterday :lol

One Flag on High Ground, Last Resort, and Ghost Town are the best things in Team Objective right now, and they're even better in Team Flag (BRs). I think One Flag with 3-second return/10-second reset would be great on Guardian and Blackout, and maybe Epilogue and Cold Storage could work too.

In case anyone owns a recent Valve game and somehow missed this feature, the developer's commentary they have put in (since Lost Coast?) is fascinating, and really details how much time and effort they put into the simplest things. There's also a lot in there about how they tell stories, and why.

I mean maybe it's just a personal preference, but some games and game developers just make me giddy with how they try to solve 'storytelling in games', and aside from the terminals, Halo isn't one of them, as much as I love most other aspects of it.
I keep meaning to turn it on in Left 4 Dead. Next time I play it I might.

So let me tell you about my Halo 3 experience this morning.

I fire it up for a few quick games before breakfast; you know the drill. Maps fail to load. "Oh, I'll fiddle around in theatre and customs until they do," I say to myself. They don't. In the meantime I have a look and see who's online. Oh, some GAF people. They're in a custom game. Eight of them. All brigadiers and generals. "It must be nice to have friends," I say to myself, as I wait for the maps I paid for with fake money (bought with real money) to load. They don't. I decide to play a game of Lone Wolves. It comes up Swords. "This will be a nice change of pace," I think. I was not wrong; everyone in this gametype moves twice as fast as I do when lunging, and are effectively untouchable. I lose every clash where I didn't surprise the player or blow them up with a grenade, and go 3-22 and -19. The second worst player went -1, because Swords is usually fairly even, unless you are unfortunate (or foolish!) enough to live outside of the US. Fed up with this, I restart my 360. This time the maps load, although it takes some thirty seconds. I decide to play a game of MLG. It gives me three on three on Guardian. One of my teammates begins to suicide and betray. The other quits. Even with just four other players, it lags. I get hounded around the map by the other team who insist on humping me and asking how I get recon. My teammate does the same thing when he is not betraying me. I never get the option to boot him. In the postgame lobby he tells the other team that he knows how to get recon and will show them in a custom game. They party up and leave together. I go back to bed and pull the covers over my head. I am typing this now from a cocoon of sadness.

If it makes you feel any better this post has my vote for best post of the Halo thread. :)

Help get me a perfection.:lol Yes.
Tashi playing with you would in no way help you get a perfection. He'd most likely just pull higher ranked people into the game and make it more difficult for you to do so.

A couple quick tips on Mythic Perfection:

1. BR! BR! BR! On Assembly, sit back in one of the bases that you spawn in with a BR and just pick people off. Watch rockets and when the time is right, make your move. Then return to the base and pick people off with the BR and rocket those who come close to you. Also, you might want to grab camo and a mauler or hammer for close-up battles.

2. Never let yourself get down to one-shot. If you're actively going for a perfection, there's no reason to stay in harm's way when you're one shot away from death. I'm not sure if you know this or not, but if you are put down to one-shot, look at the ground and run around a corner. If you drop your head, it's way more difficult for you to be killed and will usually keep you alive for another 2-3 shots.

3. Stay away from vehicles. Yeah, some of you *cough*EazyB*cough* might think that jumping in a chopper or warthog would be an easy way to 15 kills, but it isn't. It's too easy to be nailed by a power drain or rockets on Sandbox. On Sandbox, I would recommend just sitting on the top of the base that you spawn on and picking weak people off. If you go for rockets or overshield in the beginning, there's a good chance that you will indeed die, so I wouldn't recommend it.

4. For SWAT, make sure that you're an Elite. Stop being a Spartan elitist and just switch already. Sure, it's really cheap and lame but the hitboxes are way more random and you'll die less often from the front.

5. On Orbital (although it would be much more difficult to get a perfection here because of the frag fest that the map is), grab the mauler in the beginning as well as the regen/bubble shield. Usually it's easier to get rockets from regen-side, but if you have a bubble, you can easily drop it and cause the rocket guy to kill himself. If you wind up getting rockets off the spawn, just continue camping that spot and hold a rocket/BR combo and drop the mauler at your feet. That way, after your rockets run out, you'll have a close range secondary weapon. Also, if you're low on health, hide behind boxes. I've gotten three assassinations in a row for the triple kill on very unaware players that chose to run by me while I hid behind the boxes.

6. Play with a team of people around your own skill level that you know. For me, at least, whenever I play with generals, I usually get matched up against generals. Despite the fact that I can take probably 75% of them 1 on 1, it's safer to play with people in your own general skill level, especially if your BR is not spot on all the time.

7. Learn to anticipate what your opponent will do. I guess that this comes with a ton of playtime, but you need to learn how to anticipate what the enemy will do. For instance, if you're low on health and see a little red dot running in through a doorway that you're crouching behind, it might be a good idea to pull a Metroid and jump over them and go for the quick assassination.

8. Grenades, grenades, grenades. Learn how to play with them. Learn how they bounce off of different geometries and learn to anticipate where your enemy will be. A well-placed grenade can easily score you a double or triple kill in Assembly or Orbital.

And that's all I have for now. Good luck in going for that Perfection!

Go in with a bunch of friends and have them help you get a perfection. If you really want one that bad just hide whenever you get down to half shields and have your teammates soften the enemies for you. It's not hard to get if you're really trying for one, especially considering matchmaking places everyone against a bunch of guests once a night.

If only someone at Bungie would update the playlists to aid Atlas-submitted maps on their quest to Matchmaking.

If only... :)

Not sure what you're trying to say. Matchmaking's been updated at least once a month for an entire year, now.

If you're commenting on the lack of steady map flow from Atlas to Matchmaking, there are reasons for that that I cannot disclose. The fact that I've been trying to get people (you jerks) to post to Atlas, though, should be indication that said reasons are becoming non-blocking in the future.

Bungie should try selling this Atlas thing to people a little more. Put it on the front page somewhere or something. Hell, they could even let us know via Facebook lol.

The primary sources of map variants all know about Atlas. From there, when someone asks "how would I get my map into Matchmaking?" word of mouth takes care of the rest. This is a pretty easy-going way to handle a group moderated by one person. Lots of exposure would simply mean lots of people posting before reading the rules, and I'd rather spend my time on Atlas reading discussion and grabbing map variants than banning people for posting "HAY WEN IS ODST COME OUT?"

Wait, I though I quoted Trasher. I sent Trasher a PM, not Tashi. Sorry.

Thanks. I know I'll get it eventually, I just want it sooner rather than later. I'm doing most of the stuff you have suggested... I don't know, I guess I just haven't been in the right game with the right people.

When I jump into a chopper I have little intention on getting a perfection. Do I plan on ripping some assholes apart? Sure thing. Do I normally follow through on these intentions? Absolutely.

That said, I woulda had a chopper perfection here if Blood hadn't rocketed me at the very beginning of the match. Or here if Omlet wasn't a kill-stealing nub and allowed me to continue my chopper-domination. And here I prove it's not too hard to get a running riot in a chopper.

sandboxing.jpg

Sandbox chopper:kill ratio would probably be higher if SWAT wasn't included.

I stand corrected.

I think that the best I've ever done on Sandbox in a chopper was around 8 or 9 consecutive kills before being rocketed/power drained.

I'm just going to assume/hope that you're saving the great maps you've come across for a special community hopper that will be revealed once its release is closer or you've gathered enough maps to fill an entire hopper.

I see what you're saying and agree that posting it all over the Bnet forums would probably do more harm then good. I think a lot of people just see that most of the best map variants get submitted and then seemingly not accepted and they think "how the hell am I going to make a map that Shishka accepts if maps like X and Y aren't good enough". Once more maps start finding their way into matchmaking, people seeing other users maps pop up in a community playlist will be enough motivation to really get a lot of other people participating in Atlas. Until "said reasons are un-blocked" Atlas is a hard sale for most.

With that, I'll remind people that I need testing on my latest version of Ber Ber Creek (namely trying to get out of the map). I haven't changed anything else so it should play as well as ever.

As for my other map, Rise v3.1 I'm still not sure if it's worthy of a submission. It has a steep learning curve which puts people off initially but I think it's pretty good. May just throw it out there some time after I submit BBC.

Speaking of which - could I get in on some GAF customs sometime? I'd like to give a couple of my maps a shot for feedback, and try out the others that you guys have worked on. Not sure when you guys play'em these days.

I'm on around 8:00pm west coast time each night.

I've said it before but the chopper is the BR of vehicles. Keeping your distance when the enemy has a drainer or rocket is a must. Also the boost can be used to dodge rockets very easily at mid range. There are a hell of a lot of rockets on Sandbox though.

General chopper tips:
Just back up and fire - if you're backing up and have the front of the chopper in between you and the enemy you are virtually invincible. Getting hit from behind or the the side leaves you really vulnerable, luckily the chopper can 180 on a dime. Of course the chopper slugs travel slowly so you have to lead your shot. Once you get accustomed to this you'll be sniping people off the top of their sandbox base from the safety of the hills in no time. Last night I choppered a hornet out of the air from across Avalanche to my teammate's disbelief.

Don't go for the splatter - when wielding a BR I'm not focused on meleeing, so why do so in the Br of vehicles. At close range you really increase your chance of being meleed, stuck, drained, brute shot, rocketed, boarded, or ARed. Splattering should be limited to griefing, destroying vehicles, and stealth attacks.

If you know the person has nothing too threating then getting a splatter is easy. Get close, make them think they can board you, and boost or boost powerslide. They can not board you while boosting no matter how much they think they should be able to.

I have some more techniques and effective patterns of attack but I don't want to reveal them because:
A) The chopper's overwhelming power has been a secret of mine and ever since revealing it people have been stealing my choppers more and more frequently. I remember the days when no one would touch the thing and simply dismiss it as useless; leaving all the choppers for my pleasure.

B) If any Bungie employees realized what they'd unleashed in their game it would without a doubt get nerfed due to how awesomely unbalanced it is.

Couldn't help it. Had to be done.

Saw this from a Slayer BTB game from a few nights ago. My team utterly slaughtered the other other guys, one of those 65-100 kind of games. I was gong back and savoring the saved film when I saw this in the closing seconds of the match. The guy in the Wraith was backing up to try and get an angle on the Hornet, and finally got one. It was the last kill for their team, but hey. At least he went down fighting.

Are you going to be on tonight? It's been harder to get a consistent number of people on at the same time with the mythic maps to play customs this week than I thought. I really want to test out my map also for 4v4 with various gametypes for additional feedback before I attempt to submit it to Atlas so Shishka stops calling me a jerk.

Question regarding Atlas and submitting a map.

One, are delayed spawn times for items allowed, or no?

Two, let's say I have a one-flag/neutral bomb map in mind, do I have to make it work for team slayer/Flag/VIP/KoTH/etc?

yea and yo backflip, me playing with Dax could totally help him get his perfection. I could roll with him at all times protecting him and bring people's shields down for him to clean up. True that. Damn I can't wait till next weekend when I finally get to play with you dudes again. I hate playing on my friend's box because he is fucking terrible and our teammates are fucking terrible and ugh, it's so frustrating even if I do go +15 every game.

One: Delayed spawn times are just fine. Just make it doesn't do anything weird, like push a player through the bottom of a map, or something to that effect. An asymmetrical map where a bridge appears three minutes into a round to make it even harder to defend a flag, however, is an example of acceptable use of delayed spawning.

Two: Nope. Generally I'd like a map to be playable in three different gametypes, but I'm not going to shoehorn map variants into gametypes the author doesn't plan for. Just make sure that the films you provide are relevant to the gametypes your map is targeted for. If you end up doing two films of the same gametype, don't use exactly the same teams. Mix up the teams, sub out players, something like that.

If, after shipping a map, you decide it'll work for an extra gametype with some changes, new films will be expected.

I made an effort to get the perfection achievement for the first time last night. It was Neutral Bomb on Sandtrap, and I just camped the base and BRed away. All was going fine (I was about 8-0) until half my team quit inexplicably and I got mauled by the rest of their team (including two generals).

It just seems so stressful.

if people want to i would be up for customs tonight as well as tomorrow.

also i will be on a lot today forging but if people want to get their team flag on just send and invite
why is it that when i have work its beautiful out but now that i have a day off its raining. :(

It also might have helped to play a gametype where you can GET a perfection.

I think you can only get perfections in slayer based game types.
