The Rookie - your character in the hub world - keeps quiet, like the Chief. But each of your four teammates has a unique personality, and that'll come through while you're playing as them.alisdair said:Halo 3: Bro Wars

You think she likes me now? I'm gonna give Penny the night of her life, just because you want her. And I get what you want. See, Penny's giving it up, she's giving it up hard. Cause she's with Captain Hammer. And these...
[Hammer holds up his fists]
Captain Hammer: ...are not the hammer.
[Hammer walks out of the shot momentarily then walks back in]
Captain Hammer: The hammer is my penis.

I wasn't even aware that that guy was supposed to anything other than marine #7 :lolFalagard said:Nathan Fillion, on the other hand, usually plays a level headed leader. He was Captain Reynolds on Firefly, and Sergeant Reynolds in Halo 3 (the dude being held in the air by the Brute during the first level). Although, on second thought he also played Captain Hammer on Doctor Horrible, and he was a jerk on there ;-)

Ah, thank you. I really enjoyed that comic, and I remember becoming really hyped for the Halo 3 story because of it.Louis Wu said:

What ever happened to this symbol? I remember it being discussed and, if I recall correctly, it was on the Chief's visor in the E3 06 trailer.
I've got a feeling that "Spawnpoint Studios" is not the name of the Halo studio, although I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure there'll be a formal announcement (and studio reveal) made when they are ready to define their projects to the industry at large. I wouldn't expect anything of that nature for some time -- probably post-ODST at the earliest.Kibbles said:I believe it's "Spawnpoint Studios", but they didn't use that name in this interview.
The ARG tied directly into the terminals and the story of Mendicant Bias. I didn't play the ARG itself, but I followed the "IRIS" campaign and there was a definite connection, as indicated by the comic, between the story of the Forerunners and the ARG's design.Falagard said:It turned into the crappy Alternate Reality Game that lead to the Halo 3 website reveal. The content of the story in the game was ok, I guess, but the game itself sucked.
That was speculation by Gamasutra, back in September:Kibbles said:I believe it's "Spawnpoint Studios", but they didn't use that name in this interview.

Can I have a link to this Iris? I remember reading about it, but was never able to see it. Or this ARG.Mr Vociferous said:The ARG tied directly into the terminals and the story of Mendicant Bias. Falagard said:I know, I followed every snipped IRIS as it was playing out. I realize its connections to MB, and that's why I said the story wasn't bad.
It was the ARG itself that was poorly implemented. Or shall we say, dumbed down to the point where it wasn't even really much of an ARG at all.
Especially in comparison to ilovebees, which was frigging amazing. Not only was the ARG game itself amazing in ilovebees (whole communities of players banding together to solve riddles and puzzles, unlock clues and decipher the story), but the story it exposed through the audio files was amazing as well. Not only that, but done within the Halo universe! Spectacular.

Yeah, I didn't follow the ILB saga until well after it unfolded, but I agree emphatically, it was really impressive storytelling and the voice acting was top-notch.Falagard said:Especially in comparison to ilovebees, which was frigging amazing. Not a Lost expert by any stretch, but I do follow and enjoy the show. Not sure I can help in this intance, FourDoor, but I'd be happy to give it a shot. PM me.Cocopjojo said:Who doesn't watch Lost? Voc's your expert on it, though, over at AJ.
I wonder if this could be describing gameplay differences as well (and yeah I know the context is vocalization). Would be interesting to have different chapters with players that have unique skill sets.Cocopjojo said:The Rookie - your character in the hub world - keeps quiet, like the Chief. The loudmouth yells at the brutes and pulls ago. The quiet guy's personality makes him seemingly invisible to his enemies. And the witty one laughs his opponents to death.GhaleonEB said:I wonder if this could be describing gameplay differences as well (and yeah I know the context is vocalization). Well, the impression I've gotten (don't know if it's been stated directly, although I think it has) is that each chapter will be distinct in its gameplay. Dutch's chapter will be epic and vehicle-heavy. Romeo's will have you on rooftops sniping from a distance. And so on with the two other characters. Perhaps Buck will have a shotgun and his level will be street-centric, and involve lots of close-quarters combat. And maybe Mickey will have the pistol and his level will play like a traditional Halo 1 level.GhaleonEB said:I wonder if this could be describing gameplay differences as well (and yeah I know the context is vocalization). I've always enjoyed the Halo series for it's sandbox gameplay, the fact that any situation can be taken from various directions. In a single level I could take a "vehicle", "sniping", CQC, or a mix of all of them. This is enabled by the fiction in that the MC is a jack of all trades but I've always thought it was gameplay first and fit the fiction around that.Cocopjojo said:Well, the impression I've gotten (don't know if it's been stated directly, although I think it has) is that each chapter will be distinct in its gameplay. It got picked up by a lot of sites - but nothing ever came of it.
Nobody's ever registered spawnpointstudios.com (GO SQUAT NOW).
I dunno... seems like that MIGHT have been the idea at one point, but maybe not any more?
Nah, dude, it's gonna be just like we've always known. The beginning of Truth and Rec was a sniper level, 343 Guilty Spark was a shotgun level, the middle of the Ark was a vehicle level. I don't think they're going to hand us a Laser and then have Ghost after Ghost drive by for us to shoot and then the level ends. And then they hand us a sniper and Jackals pop up one by one in the windows of a building and when you hit them all, that level ends. I'm sure there will be a variety of weapons available to you, but the level itself will be vehicle-heavy, rooftop-centric, or tight corridored. Which is what a level is. It's a level and it has an environment that persists through it.EazyB said:I've always enjoyed the Halo series for it's sandbox gameplay, the fact that any situation can be taken from various directions. Limiting the strengths or abilities of a given character seems like it could throw this off. Make it more like the lesser shooters where the game can't facilitate flexible gameplay; where in x level you use y weapon. I trust Bungie for the most part but it's just a concern of mine.
It'll still be sandboxy, at least as a gestalt.EazyB said:I've always enjoyed the Halo series for it's sandbox gameplay, the fact that any situation can be taken from various directions.
