We're going to step up here and get as many codes as we can (for the Mythic Map Pack) out into the Community ether. Not sure yet when we'll have official details [I heard Sketch and Urk scheming over the Eno records in my headphones], but wheels are turning.
That is great news. I hope codes will go out to some of the best people in the map making community.

Question to Bungie:

Anything on maybe increasing the custom content amount? I'm already bumping on 100 and Sandbox is definitely gonna push me over :(
It's not totally convenient... but it's doable: create a silver account (or 6) and move some of your less-used content to it, freeing up space for new Sandbox creations.

I think it's the same one, thankfully.

Good to see it's being taken care of, otherwise I wouldn't have posted the link to help spread it.
lol - it doesn't even get you anywhere really useful! (You can't go straight up, because there's a grill above you. You can launch yourself to the top of the seawall... but you can jump up there anyway, without a superjump. I suppose it could be a faster way to get the flag out of the seawall (have a guy primed to jump, toss him the flag, he launches over the seawall)... but that's a relatively minor issue (and useful only in a very small number of situations).)

I'm glad they're fixing it... but it really doesn't seem like a huge deal. (It's not like getting on top of the base in H2, or anything.)

One of the many reasons that people who bitch or complain about Bungie's lack of community interaction or integrity, should be punched directly in the mouth.

Very cool, indeed. Give 'em to mapmakers!

I'm not going to address most of this, but I do want to say that anyone that thinks that most of us here feel like we have a "holy responsibility" to "defend Bungle" is just plain mistaken. When Bungie does stupid stuff (aka Heavies with its 7 lasers or Foundry and its terribly bleak environment) we certainly call them out on it. I could name other examples, but I'm sure you've already got your mind made up that we <3 Bungie to the death and nothing can change that.
What? Foundry is one of the best maps.

You shouldn't be justifying your own, adult-made decision unless, of course, you yourself are doubting said decision deep down.

The same could kinda be sorta said about not buying it. Justifying why your not buying, although justification isn't needed, can be a manifistation of uncertainty.

Bungie .... that's how they roll.

Just to comment once again ... I'll be waiting till the MP release of the maps on principle alone and not getting HW: CE. Eazy, Bluebur, Dirtbag ... right there with you guys.

this is fantastic news!

i hope it is something like the Friends & Family invites for the Halo 3 Demo - by the time the demo started i had collected 3 invites - one i gave to a random friend, the other was a prize in a contest at High Impact Halo - i started a thread and said "I have a Halo 3 F&F Demo Invitation, who would like it?" - i was looking for the first person to say "please" in their post...it took only 11 posts to find a winner

anyway, not saying that i deserve an early copy, but if one should happen to fall into my lap i could quickly build the Official Grifball Canvas sooner so we don't get a flood of inaccurate sized Grifball courts with bad spawn positions
- and, so you know, RvB may be holding a contest to find the Official Sandbox Grifball Court (to possibly be used as the official court after ODST is released) so there is a chance that YOUR variant may find it's way to a DBL EXP weekend - pending confirmation from the Grifball Commissioner and Bungie Officials

Eazy and I agree on something. Miracles do happen!
ha ha, Eazy's an all right guy in small doses. ;)

does anyone know if the maps are downloadable from the disc or is it a redeemable code?

i have two 360s so it would be nice to just download the maps from the disc onto both...but if it's a code, then it'll probably only be useful for one of 360s.

either way, the chances of me getting the CE are slim.

It's definitely a marketplace code packed inside the box.

Wait does urk work for Bungie now (or did he always)? Did I miss something epic?
If by "work" for Bungie you mean "join them in eating pizza and playing Xbox Live", then yes.

Ah, shit! Awesome news, it was great hearing everybody's Legendary impressions weeks prior to their release, made the wait easier

Kirkland is a relatively small town, someone needs to keep the local joints in business. Eating pizza is just another extension of community service.

I know that this has been belabored ad nauseum, but until yesterday my opinion and guesswork regarding Sandbox has been in flux and evolving, just like everyone else's I suppose. Now I feel like I've settled on a warm and juicy center, so I thought I'd jot down here exactly what I think Sandbox will be able to do. I'm definitely not trying to churn up anyone's expectations, so absolutely keep them where they lay, but this is my take.

I could be wrong, but I really feel strongly that Bungie would have come out with statements about the end of the Edge footage like they did the campaign characters in Rat’s Nest. As I am aware, they have not, which tells me that the Edge footage showing Sandbox on a grid is actual gameplay. I think at its core, Sandbox is exactly what we see in the IGN pictures: a great map with a large palette.

In addition to this and true to its name, I believe that you will be able to remove/delete/make invisible, the core geometry (dunes, stone, rim, towers) and the skybox (mountains and the sun set) and retain the grid itself and if you so choose to, all of the Forge objects on it (spawns, weapons, vehicles, blocks). From here, I believe objects can added/removed and placed on the grid, spaced out accordingly in this open world -- players will build their floors, ramps, doorways, tunnels and the entire environment. I also believe that Falagard’s statement of multi-tiered layering is likely, with the grid being able to be used to create levels on top of levels, minus the stacking we are required to do in Forge now.

When player exits Forge the grid goes with it. Perhaps the old skybox returns, but I think it would make more sense for there not even to be a skybox or any terrain, apart from the installed geometry added by the player in Forge -- which would explain why the tunnels have flooring and why there are so many flat pieces of geometry which look like floor pieces. It would also explain why the Edge footage is so well lit, even without an apparent lighting source.

I believe this is what they meant when they used the term “open world.”

It's exciting reading your post Voc. A map that could be edited so heavily would be fantastic. But at the same time I'm not expecting anything but Foundry part deux. I like to play it safe nowadays. That way I'm less disappointed later.

Even if it is part deux at least it would be outside of a warehouse with smooth objects.

So blue grid is alive, we know that for a fact. But Voc brings up a good point that in the IGN video, there is no skybox. I mean quite honestly I think it could go 50/50.

1. The map wasn't quite done yet during the IGN video hense the skybox was not complete yet
2. Voc is on the money again and the whole freakin map is customizable down to the last pixel. I still hang on the word from Lars saying that most Forgers would want to start off with the default map as opposed to starting from 100% scratch as 100% scratch may just be the IGN video. :lol

What is this IGN video you speak of?

And once Sandbox arrives, I will work tirelessly to create as close a remake to Ivory Tower as I can. <3 Ivory Tower.

I know I may be in the minority on this, but I STILL think there has to be some significance to Mr. Smith's armor changing to default once he was put on the blue grid towards the end of that EDGE video. :P

I'm still impressed with how Bungie is pushing Forge so far beyond its original intention. It began as a solution to a problem that hurt Halo 2:

In the beginning, there was a single sniper rifle on Colossus. And it was not so good. One of the new multiplayer features introduced in Halo 3 is the Forge. The Forge is an object layout editor, a tool to allow players to rework the various weapons, vehicles, and scenery that Bungie’s multiplayer designers have thoughtfully placed around Halo 3’s multiplayer maps.
Forge was not designed to do what we're now doing (and will soon do) with it. It was aimed at letting players modify weapon and object placement. And then Foundry hit, which morphed into a pseudo-level editor. Then the Legendary set hit, and Bungie added the lighting filters, so we now not only tweak object placements, but the visual style of the entire map.

I feel like a proverbial frog in the water, and it keeps getting warmer. We've gradually drifted so far from Forge's original intent that it's kind of shocking to look back and see how limited the original intent - and implementation - was. It's evolution over the course of the DLC is an interesting experiment in expanding a hard-wired feature. And looking at what Sandbox might turn out to be, that water is about to boil over.

One thing I am reminded about Sandbox is that people who count and compare the quantity of Halo 3 maps vs Halo 2 maps discount the variations that have been Forged out of Foundry and soon to be Sandbox.

Lets just hope more balanced maps make it into matchmaking.

Can someone explain to me with lone wolves has gone back to 6 players?

I was playing it today and it had 8 players, after the match finished it went to 6 players.!

You mean you played a match that had eight and then played another match that had six? It matches you with however many it can. I think the range is 6-8. If you have six ready to play and the system is having a hard time finding two more, it will just go ahead and start the match, rather than making you wait.

I can't get to bnet while connected to work, but Rumble Pit has increased from 6 to 8 players, and DBL EXP (Grifball) is up, so it is possible they reduced Lone Wolves from 8 to 6.

Quick Impressions from the Halo Wars demo, I'll have a more detailed write-up later where it belongs (Demo Impressions thread).

Looks like I'll wait. As bad as I want to get the Mythic maps, $80 isn't worth it for the game, and to fuel Microsoft's handling of the maps. I don't see this game worth that, or $60 for that matter. The game itself isn't bad, but I'm not really a RTS guy. It seems like a good game to pick up once the price goes down, but I wouldn't buy it at full price. The music is pretty good, voice acting is "meh"... and yes that is a word now. Not much else to say... =\ I had some fun, but it's just not the type of game I'd pay full price for. I'm sure RTS fans will appreciate it though. Ensemble did well, I really feel bad for them now that they were forced to shut down. Great job on the exploding grunts :lol I love how they just soar up and explode, makes for a good firework show.

Remake Galore will come when Sandbox hits. I might try Goldeneye's Temple. I'll leave Sanctuary and what not to the pros. I'd rather not have my pathetic attempts ruin the experience :lol

Appropriate stealth update for a small changelog.

I really pity those still trying to get most of the ranked free-for-all challenges, heck I still need that Overkill one, now it's going to be harder. =(
