My first Open Season :D (ShWATguns)

I have to keep reminding myself that there are no shields. I want to get way too close sometimes.

And I lost in a game where I had the first NINE KILLS on my team (and MVP overall). Did I bitch at my team? No. It's just a game :)

Joystik interview said:
Why did Bungie feel the urge to go back and tell a part of Halo 2's story through a the ODST's point of view?

Halo 3: Recon is really a labor of love for our fans. Halo 3 is still going strong, there is a lot of demand for more, more, more. Just doing more of the same wasn't good enough for us, so the team started working on ideas to change things up a bit. The ODSTs have always been fan favorites and the events that unfolded on Earth is something fans still clamor for after being "short changed" in Halo 2. Everything just added up and it's a win-win really.

Does the ODST and all three other co-op players (presumably ODST soldiers) have back story written into the Halo lore?

You will get familiarized with the characters in Recon, but not to the extent of someone like Master Chief, who has been the subject of exhaustive back story and spin-off material.

Seeing that Halo 3's engine will be two years old by the time Recon releases, will it be improved with new effects, new visuals and some sort of anti-aliasing?

This is very much an expansion to Halo 3, being built on top of the existing technology. This allows our team to focus on the gameplay elements first and foremost, since this is a very short cycle for us. So, that also means it will have full feature parity (4 player co-op, saved films, screenshots, stats, etc.) as Halo 3.

Sounds like Recon is staying pretty true to being an expansion in terms of features. So, would it be a fair assumption to say there won't be any new/modified weapons, new equipment or a new soundtrack? "I believe I saw a new weapon already in the announcement trailer and I think I heard some new music as well. I can't really talk about that stuff in detail right now."

I don't think that's a fair assumption. I believe I saw a new weapon already in the recent announcement trailer and I think I heard some new music as well. I can't really talk about that stuff in detail right now.

So, you're just going to leave us with that tease?

Okay, I will confirm new music and at least one new gun.

Many fans have speculated that the blue and red Covenant outline that was seen in Recon's announcement trailer hints a it being component of the actual gameplay. Is that something we should expect in Recon or was that done for trailer purposes?

The components of the announcement trailer are very true to the spirit of the actual game. All will be revealed in due time.

What about Forge? We heard there will be "expanded Forge options." What should we expect?

Yes, I had a feeling the word "expanded" would be misinterpreted, especially in light of the recent frenzy of speculation surrounding "Forge 2.0" and "campaign Forge" rumors that came up after our recent acceptance videos.

You're referring to the video that showed off some sort of blue grid, correct?

Yes, that's the one. We've already debunked any notion of a "Forge 2.0", but all of the multiplayer maps that are included with Recon will definitely take advantage of Forge in various ways.

Did Bungie ever consider a map editing tool as powerful as a map editor like Far Cry 2? "Attempting to do a full geometry editor like Far Cry 2 would have possibly killed us or at least severely delayed the game's release."

Forge was our first step into the realm of letting people start to manipulate and create custom content and manipulate multiplayer experiences. Considering how much we already managed to cram into Halo 3 from a tech/feature perspective, attempting to do a full blown geometry editor like Far Cry 2 would have possibly killed us or at least severely delayed the game's release. We're really happy with how Forge turned out though and, honestly, it's still coming into it's own. With the recent updates to Bungie.net and improving file sharing, we're seeing more custom content being created and shared than ever before. Our Forge editor was always designed as a social experience, something you goof around with and have fun with your friends, but also something powerful enough to alter the way a map is played.

Speaking of maps, there's a bunch of confusion regarding how the Recon exclusive multiplayer maps and general matchmaking experience will work next Fall. Can you briefly explain how matchmaking between Halo 3 and Halo 3: Recon will function, if they'll share the same matchmaking space, and if the content from the Recon disc will be stored on the 360's HDD?

Think of Halo 3: Recon really as two games in one. You have the new Recon campaign that is a separate "title ID" and includes 1000 gamerscore and achievements, etc. It's campaign only. The multiplayer maps are more Halo 3 goodness, still considered "regular" Halo 3 content and the multiplayer stuff is interchangeable in that regard. If you purchase the Mythic Map pack via the Xbox Live Marketplace early next year, but your friend doesn't get those maps until the Recon disc comes out, they will work together just fine.

So, Recon will include the complete Halo 3 multiplayer experience (maps and all) and will communicate/share matchmaking space with other Recon players as well as Halo 3 players? "If you buy the Mythic Map pack via the XBLM early next year but your friend doesn't get those maps until Recon comes out, they will work together just fine."

I don't think those specifics are completely ironed out yet beyond the guaranteed addition of new maps to the Recon package

Regarding the Mythic Map Pack, does January 6th hold any significance?

Really, there is no date set for the release right now. We want nothing more than to get them into the hands of our fans, but we're waiting to find out when that will be. The sooner the better.

Thanks to the latest Halo 3 title update and the reveal of the Mythic achievements, we know there will be six new Mythic maps. Will any of the maps be remakes of either Halo or Halo 2 maps? Like, say, a remake of Ivory Tower?

Well, the only map I'm really able to talk about right now is the one we've already revealed, Assembly, which is a completely original creation.

Come on Brian, not even a little tease? Will we see either remade OR inspired-by Halo or Halo 2 maps in the Mythic Pack?

(they are listening ...)

We'll take that.

I can confirm you will not see a remake or inspired version of Chiron TL34.

Shucks, I know a lot of fans were really rooting for that remake. Those same Mythic achievements also revealed multiplayer skulls. Traditionally, skulls were hidden in Halo 3 campaign levels, how will unlocking skulls work in a multiplayer environment?

Skulls like to hide.

A game of find the hidden skull and unlock an achievement?

That sounds like a reasonable assumption.

Continuing our achievement curiosity, what about those Vidmaster achievements? You've been quoted as saying that they'll lead to "something that should be of great interest to fans." Care to explain?

Well, I meant that the Vidmaster Achievements will ultimately result in something cool that, I assume, would be of great interest.

Like in-game content, recon armor or a piece of pie?

I do not think we can support the logistics or infrastructure required to bake and distribute desserts on a global scale. If only ...

You might want to invest in that, I believe it to be an integral part to the success of Bungie's plan for global domination. So, here's an interesting one for you. If Halo 4 were "theoretically" in development, would Bungie be interested in developing it? If not and Bungie wanted to pursue other projects, would Bungie be comfortable allowing another studio to take the Halo 4 reigns? "Whether or not we are comfortable with someone else doing [a Halo sequel] is somewhat irrelevant. "

As a studio we do still enjoy the Halo universe and there are still many people who would be interested in exploring more ideas in that space. Whether or not we are comfortable with someone else doing it is somewhat irrelevant. It isn't really our call and we already know there are multiple Halo projects underway that Bungie is not involved with.

Finally, what's up with Bungie denying Xbox 360 Fanboy's request for a Humpday Challenge? You aren't scared of our "elite" Halo 3 skills or afraid of being shown up. Are you?

Is this another attempt at redemption for the whooping you took at PAX?

Again, you bring up that painful memory.

We haven't had a Humpday Challenge in a little while, but it sounds like something you and Mr. Smith should take up directly considering he's the one who schooled you once already.

Agreed, me and my friends basically just laughed as they were fighting, a sad AND humorous night it was for humanity :)

MadeFromAwesome is my new GT, its on the Halo 3 GAF list. Numbers won't call me Awesome though, he still calls me Juices. :(

Loving this new account shit, I'm going up two ranks every win in MLG at level 40. At this rate it'll take 5-6 more wins to get my 50 in it.:D

I have heard it said that 1-25 takes the most time. Once you get past that the ranks really start flying. I know on my 2nd account it probably took ~100 TS games to get to a 25 and that was with a win % of ~ 92%. That is where it sits right now as I haven't been playing too much TS here recently.

What was the highest rank on your old account?

Me and him had that discussion yesterday and I also still call you juices, you live by the first name you were given, not the second.

Yea 1-25 took a super long time for me, especially cause around that time the EXP and Rank were a bit broken and hit or miss, yet it counted every loss. Even though me and a buddy were something ridiculous like 40/45 wins we only got to rank ~15 :D

And I was around a 45 in every playlist on my old account.

I'm sure I'm LTTP on this, but over the weekend I discovered the Rocket Races mode. So much fun. Guy I was playing with described it as "Mario Kart on crack." If you haven't played it yet and need a change of pace, I highly recommend it.

Yea it is definitely an excellent way to just have goofy fun. I think RR is an example of why I keep coming back to halo, there are just so many different ways to have fun.

40 - 50 - Second Account city in MLG.

Have fun... juicy boy.

Team Doubles and TS are infinitely worse. Team Doubles has so many second accounters there is absolutely no ranking system, people down at 1-20 are just as good as the people up at 45-50.

Holy shit. I completely forgot about Humpdays. I've seen one in awhile, damn.

Do you guys pay for your second accounts or do you just use 'em for the free month?

That's how it seems to be in every ranked playlist now.

I am paying for mine because I figure that I will end up keeping this one. I torched my first one the first 2 months I was playing. I am better than I was. Am I General better ... no, but I think I am better than the 36 my other one capped out at.

Team Slayer at 44 is aggravating.

Win a game, lose a game. Win a game, lose a game.

Yup, I've been going back and forth from a 40 and 44 for the last 10 months. It gets boring after a while without some new content.

I think if I got a few dudes to carry me over the line it would be fine. It's partying with randoms that sucks. I know that if I am leading the team we are probably going to lose, and that if I am bottom of the team we are probably going to win. In between it's a coin toss. :lol

I used to be 43, now I am a 39. Now I can't rank up no matter how many games I win. Like I give a shit anymore. I was hoping to get together with a team before when I had some free time.

Castle Crashers all over my face anyways.

When I get my Internet connection established, I will once again lead you through the mud, guts, and dark unknown.

I might pay for it if I make it to 50 :)

But seriously shame on Bungie for banning Juices from MM. I never cheated and that account was solid for years. No bannings of any other kind. They did no question about it, even if its JUST ME this happened to, add one more second accounter to the pool for absolutely no reason.

Solid reasoning. Microsoft makes it ridiculously easy for people to start free secondary accounts. That doesn't mean Bungie shouldn't police their matchmaking pools for peeps who cheat, boost, or quit and harm the experience for other players.

To date, you were closing in on 14% of every game you played ending with a quit.

Yea but I'm allowed to quit. I quit games that are laggy, games that I'm not having fun with, and to be honest most of those were disconnections from my shitty internet.

Because they banned my high account, I now ruin kids games whenever I enter playlists I'm ranked down low at, when obviously I am somewhere around a level 50 in terms of this ranking system. I don't see how they are helping.

Unless you were agreeing with me, but you sound like a smug mutherfucker.

You're allowed to quit and Bungie is allowed to ban you for whatever reason they choose. It's just silly to watch you spin your insanely high amount of bitch outs into OMG BUNGLE SUX and OMG xxJUICESxx DIDZ KNOW WRONGS.

We get it, Bungie unleashed the awesomeness that is you upon the unsuspecting world of matchmaking. Hell hath no fury like a juices scorned.

the system is flawed

however

totally called for considering the amount of shit the people with some sort of decency put up with

I know they are allowed to ban me, I'm just saying they aren't helping. I guess second accounts don't seem to be a problem for you. You've probably gotten nothing but completely even games every single game you've ever played in MM. :D

People were registering second accounts long before the Banhammer went sentient. This isn't a brand new, ban-inspired phenomenon. As far as my personal experience goes, I've been getting donged on in Halo multiplayer since 2001. Not much has changed for me, even in the wake of the wonderful world of online ego points.

That's the precise problem. They haven't really made any steps to fixing this.

Aside from paying for e-training, I don't know that Bungie will have too much luck in my case.

xxjuicesxx said:

What's there to fix about that, exactly? Some people are better at a video-game (in this case, Halo) than others. Completely normal.

What are you people talking? I'm not saying everyone is a 50. The ranking system is about getting equal games. Its not getting any better at deciding what cast of skill you are in.

If the system works you'd find yourself at a level where you win 50% and get a K/D around 1.00

I see not one player who's stats represent that. In fact most people are nowhere NEAR that.

Just did some cleaning in the GAF Halo 3 list to make some room. If you got removed and want back in send me a pm on GAF, but you must have a Gold subsciption.

THere was this tag Spasm, and it never had any GS in any game, very weird.

49-45. The General on the winning team will surely lead his team to victory with one quick kill. Oops. MIMIC880 killed him.

MIMIC's team wins 50-49. :lol The General was so pissed (when I remember to strafe, I do so much better :D)

Playing Team Slayer at level 44, I find myself winning just over 50% of the time, and my ranked k/d ratio over the past six months has tended slowly toward 1.0. It's at about 1.2 right now. When I first started playing Halo 3 it was around 1.8.

The system works when you (and others) play to the system.
