Also, is anyone getting SOCOM this week? If so send a FR to Finjitzu.
The killcam example is something I'm sure happens in Halo 3 as well (just not as obvious since there's no killcam and people don't die as quickly). Since movement and shooting is client-side predicted you'll always see yourself fire more before dying than what you'll see in a killcam or what other people see. That's because you were technically dead about a half second earlier than you were aware of, it just took a bit of time for the server to realize that and send you that information.CrazedArabMan said:Not literally 2 seconds later, I just said that in exaggeration. Its more around a half a second like I say in the post and no its not my connection, trust me on that one. It shows in the kill cam, where I think I shoot a guy a couple times and then in the kill cam, it shows that I didn't even fire a bullet.

So for the last half second or so you before you were dead the client would keep sending "I'm firing!" network packets, but the server would disregard those because you were already dead.
There's one example in Halo which is pretty much the same thing. In Halo 2, whoever won a melee battle was the guy with the lowest ping to the server. But it was extremely frustrating for players because from their point of view it looked as if they were hitting first. Halo 3 changed that to make the server wait a very short duration after a melee kill to see if the recieving player also did a melee kill, and then give the kill to whoever had the most health. That was also frustrating, and now the server will simply let both players die.
Perhaps that's the ultimate solution to all netcode-related problems. Just make all players die.
No....you don't.CrazedArabMan said:I think I know who Trasher is now!!! maybe

I didn't make it to class today. My car died, so I got to spend all morning sitting around waiting for AAA to come get me.
I even wore a Bungie shirt today. You could have figured it out so easily! No worries though, I'll wear another Bungie shirt on Thursday. :lol
Yeah, I get that impression too. I think that's simply because people die so extremely fast in CoD 4. Melee is always one-hit kill, most weapons kill in 1-3 shots and they fire really fast. And that makes it much more likely you'll get into a situation where you think "How did that guy kill me? I hit him at least 3 times!"CrazedArabMan said:Maybe, but it seems to me that it happens so much more in CoD then in Halo even if there wasn't a kill cam.
Is your gamertag the same as your GAF username? I played a 'Sectus' at the CoD:WaW beta a little earlier today (CTF game on the beach map, I think), and he was pretty good.Sectus said:Yeah, I get that impression too. Yeah, that was me. Thanks for the compliment, although I'm not sure if I can agreeShake Appeal said:Is your gamertag the same as your GAF username? I played a 'Sectus' at the CoD:WaW beta a little earlier today (CTF game on the beach map, I think), and he was pretty good.
Go play some older games and see if you still think that way. I'm personally glad we don't have to "lead" our aiming based on our ping any more. It's basically impossible to create absolutely perfect netcode for shooters, but I think some developers has made good steps forward the last years.xxjuicesxx said:I don't know about the new CoD game but publishers need to stop creating "things" to eliminate latency and host advantage. Seriously just leave it alone. Even when you create whatever THING you've done to counteract it THAT is going to latent by whatever PING the host has. Furthermore it fucks up gameplay and on LAN is completely unnecessary.

fuck the beam rifle

I call BS on that one!
Initial spawns on Guardian isn't any better.xxjuicesxx said:How is starting in the base on Ghost Town in Team Slayer fair?
Honestly the one team gets sniper/rockets/Invisy and OS as long as they aren't slow as balls. :lol :lol
xxjuicesxx said:Yea MLG or SWAT. I can't stand that doubles TS Assault Rifle no skill shit.
CrazedArabMan said:I haven't done swat since the update, is it better and is there still a ton of elite's in it.
They also get shotty but I still prefer OS spawn.Striker said:Initial spawns on Guardian isn't any better.
One team gets the OS, Bubble Shield, and Sniper.
Sure the other gets an opportunity at the Invisible, but so can the other team.
The update turned big head mode on for the elites...CrazedArabMan said:I haven't done swat since the update, is it better and is there still a ton of elite's in it.

Yep.Captain Blood said:I am pretty sure nothing upsets me more than doubles for some reason. When I play doubles I can go from a good mood to wanting to throw my controller threw my screen in no time flat. :lol

xxjuicesxx said:Lolz just got matched against a team of brits in MLG. They had like a good half second advantage on us, we never even stood a chance.
Well it's nice to see a reverse of the usual situation. American connections are on average far superior to UK ones, and are far more likely to serve the majority of Halo 3 players (who are American), so hosting records on the whole benefit US players. I guess you can count yourself lucky that you have it good the majority of the time!xxjuicesxx said:Lolz just got matched against a team of brits in MLG. And by the way, 'half second' is a bit of an exaggeration for a difference of 100-250ms.
There are videos uploaded to Gamevee that aren't Halo related...Trasher said:So is Gamevee like dead forever? Or are they just trying to figure out what they are going to do now that Bungie has stolen their job?
I am well aware, but I'm talking about the videos that people actually watch on Gamevee.Dax01 said:There are videos uploaded to Gamevee that aren't Halo related...

-Less objectives (good)
-Beatdowns are now one-hit kill
-No spawning with nades, nades that are found on map actually KILL now if thrown at the enemy and exploded upon them (before was just SILLY).
