Holy crap - and that was one rocket, too (you can see the second one still on its way).

HEY MAN NICE SHOT

Dammit, now I'm gonna have that song in my head the rest of the day. :(

Now it is stuck in MY HEAD .... OH NOES!

So I pretty lazy, did I miss anything in the past 4 days besides the BWU?

Also, is anyone getting SOCOM this week? If so send a FR to Finjitzu.

Not literally 2 seconds later, I just said that in exaggeration. Its more around a half a second like I say in the post and no its not my connection, trust me on that one. It shows in the kill cam, where I think I shoot a guy a couple times and then in the kill cam, it shows that I didn't even fire a bullet.
The killcam example is something I'm sure happens in Halo 3 as well (just not as obvious since there's no killcam and people don't die as quickly). Since movement and shooting is client-side predicted you'll always see yourself fire more before dying than what you'll see in a killcam or what other people see. That's because you were technically dead about a half second earlier than you were aware of, it just took a bit of time for the server to realize that and send you that information.

So for the last half second or so you before you were dead the client would keep sending "I'm firing!" network packets, but the server would disregard those because you were already dead.

There's one example in Halo which is pretty much the same thing. In Halo 2, whoever won a melee battle was the guy with the lowest ping to the server. But it was extremely frustrating for players because from their point of view it looked as if they were hitting first. Halo 3 changed that to make the server wait a very short duration after a melee kill to see if the recieving player also did a melee kill, and then give the kill to whoever had the most health. That was also frustrating, and now the server will simply let both players die.

Perhaps that's the ultimate solution to all netcode-related problems. Just make all players die.

Maybe, but it seems to me that it happens so much more in CoD then in Halo even if there wasn't a kill cam.

I don't know about the new CoD game but publishers need to stop creating "things" to eliminate latency and host advantage. Seriously just leave it alone. Even when you create whatever THING you've done to counteract it THAT is going to latent by whatever PING the host has. Furthermore it fucks up gameplay and on LAN is completely unnecessary.

I think I know who Trasher is now!!! maybe
No....you don't.

I didn't make it to class today. My car died, so I got to spend all morning sitting around waiting for AAA to come get me. :(

I even wore a Bungie shirt today. You could have figured it out so easily! No worries though, I'll wear another Bungie shirt on Thursday. :lol

That sucks bro

Yeah, I get that impression too. I think that's simply because people die so extremely fast in CoD 4. Melee is always one-hit kill, most weapons kill in 1-3 shots and they fire really fast. And that makes it much more likely you'll get into a situation where you think "How did that guy kill me? I hit him at least 3 times!"

I've had about the same level of bullshit in COD4 and Halo 3's Team SWAT. Sometimes games are fine, sometimes I can headshot a guy three or four times and have him turn around and kill me in one shot. COD's kill cam makes it much more annoying, though.

Is your gamertag the same as your GAF username? I played a 'Sectus' at the CoD:WaW beta a little earlier today (CTF game on the beach map, I think), and he was pretty good.

Dang, I thought for a moment this one kid might have been you, right as I walked by him he folded his laptop down and as I was walking out, It looked like he was on NeoGAF. Oh well, thursday is another day, oh and be glad you missed, the guest speaker put everyone to sleep.

Yeah, that was me. Thanks for the compliment, although I'm not sure if I can agree :P I have a tendency to use a non-scoped bolt action rifle most of the time beacuse I think it's fun... and then get the worst score you can imagine.

Go play some older games and see if you still think that way. I'm personally glad we don't have to "lead" our aiming based on our ping any more. It's basically impossible to create absolutely perfect netcode for shooters, but I think some developers has made good steps forward the last years.

I can't stand the bolt-action stuff; I mainly stick with the SMGs. I've never been a big CoD player, though.

Once you get the bayonet, oh man did I get butt with that. Ok but back on too Halo stuff, Human Sniper vs Beam Rifle, Go!!!

Beam rifle goes Pew Pew. Sniper Rifle goes Pow Pow.

Halo 2 I would of said Beam, but now I have to say Human despite the fact that I got a Sharpshooter medal with a Beam rifle on Standoff Heavy and the Human Sniper wasn't doing me any good in that game.

How is starting in the base on Ghost Town in Team Slayer fair?

Honestly the one team gets sniper/rockets/Invisy and OS as long as they aren't slow as balls. :lol :lol

Oh and juices, it depends what you want to get your 50 in, I don't really feel like doing team slayer after I played all of those games just to get my 50 in it. So I don't know what you have in mind.

I'm a 46 in MLG right now. If we can get a solid team of 4 going into there on a regular basis I don't think 50 is beyond a decent player.

I'll probably be on later, don't know if I'll be playing H3, NHL 09, or CoD WaW beta, also I have to take into account if any of my roommates are playing or want to play. Also, Trasher, the beam rifle is just a mirage.

Initial spawns on Guardian isn't any better.

One team gets the OS, Bubble Shield, and Sniper.

Sure the other gets an opportunity at the Invisible, but so can the other team.

They also get shotty but I still prefer OS spawn.
Cold storage is another map with debatable spawns. One team gets invis, snipe, powerdrainer, BR, Bubble, and rockets while the other team gets shotty and OS.

I haven't done swat since the update, is it better and is there still a ton of elite's in it.
The update turned big head mode on for the elites...

Yea MLG or SWAT. I can't stand that doubles TS Assault Rifle no skill shit.

I am pretty sure nothing upsets me more than doubles for some reason. When I play doubles I can go from a good mood to wanting to throw my controller threw my screen in no time flat. :lol

Yep.

Brainboy and I have been grinding Doubles on and off (mostly off) for months, and have got to 43 and 42 pretty easily I think, but there been some aggravating experiences along the way. At least TU2 fixed Crazy King.

About as fair as spawning outside on Standoff for Team Snipers :(.

For some reason, I can't seem to get into a game without having a party. I have fun sometimes, but it just puts me off.

I blame Ascendant Justice and NeoGAF.

My TV is lucky that I can't play Halo 3!

Lolz just got matched against a team of brits in MLG. They had like a good half second advantage on us, we never even stood a chance.

Well it's nice to see a reverse of the usual situation. American connections are on average far superior to UK ones, and are far more likely to serve the majority of Halo 3 players (who are American), so hosting records on the whole benefit US players. I guess you can count yourself lucky that you have it good the majority of the time!

And by the way, 'half second' is a bit of an exaggeration for a difference of 100-250ms.

So is Gamevee like dead forever? Or are they just trying to figure out what they are going to do now that Bungie has stolen their job?

I agree but this wasnt the usual. This was actually Australian I believe, they were also coupling by all LAN'ing Live at the same house. After all they were a "Team". I can post the video, you toss a nade, half a second later it releases.

There are updates to SWAT though.

-Less objectives (good)
-Beatdowns are now one-hit kill
-No spawning with nades, nades that are found on map actually KILL now if thrown at the enemy and exploded upon them (before was just SILLY).

thanks you about the nades and melee, I hated it when I would melee thinking "oh yeah your dead", and my melee bounces off of them only to have them turn and shoot me in the head.
