So I dunno if this has been brought up yet, but I just had a slight eureka moment over watching the Recon trailer again. Recon takes place immediately after Regret's ship jumps out of New Mombasa on the way to Delta Halo, correct? So this is going to take place primarily during Halo 2's time frame. Doesn't this mean that the primary enemy we get to fight should be Elites, and not Brutes? Because the Brute seizure of power and the elite exile doesn't occur until after the Chief kills Regret.

The trailer would suggest otherwise, but I really hope we get to take on Elites again during the events of Recon, because as entertaining as the Brutes were to fight in 3, I still think I enjoyed the Elites more.

Just because the Elites have more power at the time, it doesn't prevent the Covenant from using Brutes as soldiers. But you do bring up an interesting point: Will we fight Elites?

Oh, and I just noticed that there is an ODST helmet available for matchmaking. D'oh.

Haha, no. That looks like it was done by some kid learning a 3d program like Blender, not Bungie.

Just finished Halo 3. Good game but suffers from back tracking.

Backtracking, when done right, is fine. I don't think any of the Halos have had a problem with backtracking. It makes the levels feel more contiguous.

Halo 3 Recon will have a full 1000 gamer points for achievements separate from the 750 in multiplayer.
No Squad.
No 3rd Person.

Different approach to battles - new twists.

If it's not a squad shooter, then what makes it different in the first place?

How the hell do we know? We know just as much as you, buddy!

I'm sure it'll be different enough, otherwise I doubt Bungie would have bothered.

It'll be interesting to see the reaction to H3: Recon. I like the hints towards the changed gameplay, but I can see how others might view the ODST as a gimped version of Master Chief (less health, no shields, etc).

Hopefully Bungie gives him some kind of advantage over MC.

I'd guess the former, unfortunately.

Where are you getting that H3R's Forge has more features? Everything I've read says that it'll be the same as Halo 3's Forge.

Well for one, this newsflash on xbox.com. Though admitedly they use the word expanded instead of new.
Expanded multiplayer collection:No Halo experience would be complete without groundbreaking multiplayer content, and Halo 3: Recon gives fans more of what they love. With exclusive new maps and expanded Forge options, Xbox LIVE® Gold members will find more multiplayer content than ever before with Halo 3: Recon.
Thinking about it, it could be that the new features are limited to just the Recon only maps. Kinda like how the camera effects are limited to just the Legendary and later maps.

That would be because I never said any of that.

I must say though I am flattered someone would take their own time to try and pretend to be me in an IRC chatroom.

So during the last couple of matches tonight I received multiple invites from Dinoandnash. After we were done playing I recieved another game invite from him and decided, why not, and joined him. He was a southern child no older than 12. This is his story:

Hey, do you know Jironimo?
Oh of course, good friend of mine.

He's got recon right? Like he's a Bungie employee.
Well of course, do you know the map Standoff?

Yeah.
He designed the tree by camo.

Oh wow, can you tell him to give me recon?
I wish it were that easy. I have to fill out a request form in order to get you recon and it's a big hassle for me. But you seem like a nice guy so I'll go ahead and do it for you.

Aww thanks.
Now why do you think you deserve recon?

I'll play him for it.
Oh no, no, no. He's a master of Halo, he made the game afterall. Let me fill out this form, why do you deserve recon?

Well I take good pictures of recon.
Nice, nice, you must really love recon then.

Oh yeah, I played with recon for the first time, me and my friend. We got so excited it was just crazy, I was so happy I woke up my parents and told them.
Oh, they must have been really happy for you. We like to give recon to those with a story. Have you had any hardships or any stories that show how much you love Halo.

Well I'm not really popular at school. Sometimes I get picked on but I still have friends and I'm not a loser.
Oh of course you're not. Once we get you that recon you'll show those bullies! But do you have any stories that really show how much you love Halo?

I play Halo like everyday.
Oh wow, that's a lot.

Yeah, it's my favorite game ever.
Oooh, nice. He'll love hearing that. What's your favorite map? Be aware, there is a right and wrong answer here.

What, umm... I really like Ghost Town but-
- oh, no, no, no. I'll give you one more try. Remember, this is recon we're talking about, I can't go recommending recon to Ghost Town lovers. I'll give you a hint, it starts with, "stan--"

... Standoff! It's my real favorite map.
Ooh, nice save. Just a few more questions now. How many achievements do you have?

I have a lot. I mean I don't have all of them but-
Eww, ouch, this isn't going to look good. I'll try to do you a favor, I'll write down "Almost have all of them and is really trying hard to get the rest."

Yeah, yeah. I am.
Kay, that's good. You must realize that achievements are the entire foundation of Halo 3 right? Without them there's no point.

Yeah, I'll try to get the achievements.
Alright, this is where it really counts. The last question on the form asks "What else you like to say to Bungie and why you deserve recon". You have to nail this one.

I get on Bungie.net everyday to look at my scores and try to find people with recon. I really love recon and I'm going to buy the recon maps right away. I think Bungie is the coolest ever and I want to work there when I get older.
Oh, nice. Let me make sure I've got this form filled out.... Yup, looks really good. I'm not supposed to say this to people but I think you're definitely getting recon.

Awesome, I'm so excited, you're so nice.
It's my pleasure. Alright, let's wrap this up. Send a friend request to TJ Ramirez so that we don't lose track of you.

Can't I send you a friend request?
Oh, no. My friend's list is full. But send TJ Ramirez one along with a awesome pic of recon because he loves those. Jironimo doesn't have work today so he can't push the recon button for you then but when he gets in there Monday he should have it done. There is then a 1 to 2 week background check to see that you're a nice player. It count's how many times you've teabagged and used a mauler with shield doors.

Umm... it counts them?
Oh of course, we only give recon to nice people. But don't worry, you seem really nice so I'm sure you'll check out. Farewell, and happy Haloing.

Thank you so much, you don't know how much this means to me.
My pleasure, good night.

You are such an asshole :lol

Two Betrayals, man. On that note, I'm going through Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary for the first time, and, well, I bet it's easier on coop... I just finished the encounter on "Halo" where you rescue the first set of Marines/crew (there are four sets of marines/crew on the level) of the Pillar of Autumn and I couldn't even save one; there were just so many Covenant.

No, I don't think it did.

Triple Kill, Killing Frenzy, Up and Close, and Steppin Razor all at once! also ended the game with a Slice n' Dice and Running Riot.

4 achievements unlocked it said LOL.

So if we buy the Mythic Map Pack when it first comes out we are just gonna get boned when we pay $60 (lets not kid ourselves that it'll be cheaper) for Recon aren't we? Because all the Mythic maps are included in it, right, so the price has to be jacked up to include the cost of the maps.

Well I guess I'm just gonna have to wait six months to play those maps, because no way am I gonna buy them twice. Unless of course there's another convenient deal that gets me the map pack for free as I did with the Legendary pack and Circuit City's Ninja Gaiden II pre-order.

What's even worse is that Bungie made me spend $10 on the Heroic maps and then turned right around and made them free 6 months later. Talk about being boned. It seems like they're trying to pull the same stunt once again. Bone me once, shame on you Bungle. Bone me twice...

You really wouldn't be paying twice. A campaign disc in store release is going to be 60 dollars regardless of the maps it has in it. If you buy the DLC in the marketplace that would be like complaining you are paying for the H3Regular release maps that come with H3Recon.

I doubt it would be the first time EazyB

I was gonna ask why you were walking funny at PAX, but I thought you might have had a disability, so I kept my mouth shut.

I doubt that the price is going to be jacked up because of maps that have been out for 9 months. Seems like a silly assumption to me.

I think you're misguided in thinking that you'll be boned because the maps will be later on a disc. You'll be boned because you won't be able to play those maps in regular matchmaking for a century.

I have been playing halo 3 multiplayer on and off for the last year or so at a friends place.

Today I caved in because there are just so many games I want to play on xbox 360. First game I bought was halo 3. I am going through the single player campaign for the first time!

I know it's called single player, but for the love of god, play it co-op it's so much better.

So I read somewhere online today that the Recon campaign will not be available as DLC and instead remain strictly as disk based content... and basically only the mythic maps will be DLC-able.

Is there any truth to this? I heard it somewhere unreliable.

Also, I could picture MS packing the Recon disk with all the multiplayer map packs and charging $60 for it... with justification of it being

$40 campaign expansion + 2*($10 map-packs) = $60

I'm sure MS will try and find someway to charge the most money possible for it. This type of pricing would totally piss me off - as someone who would already have purchased the available map-packs long before this releases.

How much of the 60$ price point that we see in game stores is actually the cost of the software itself. Chunks go to Gamestop or Bestbuy etc, chunk to the distributers. If Halo 3 was released day and date in store and online, same exact games, but the online version was 59.99, "there's something real wrong here baby" IF the map packs were released on discs, where as soon as you popped the disc in, it was ripped to your hard drive, that disc in stores would be more than 10$ if MS would hope to get the same money they get from the downloaded purchases.
