The Official Halo 3 Thread

Theres no way I'm going near that clusterfuck of a thread so I'll say it here: I'm stoked for whatever this is. More Halo 3 Campaign? Yes please! A different perspective of the Covenant invasion of New Mombasa? Hell yes! Downloadable? Don't mind if I do! Retail Disc? Perfectly acceptable! Can't wait for some details on this thing :D:D:D

Just a random thought....

Remember, Chief uses a drop pod in Halo 2 as well as the ODST's. :D

In all reality, though, if it is actually a Halo 3 campaign "expansion", and you aren't the chief...I wonder how Bungie will utilize shieldless ODST's versus elites/brutes.

Also...wasn't New Mombasa razed about midway through Halo 2?

Which means it could be a "After master chief leaves Earth in halo 2" as the starting point.....from an Earth perspective, rather than the Chief's.

I have speculated before regarding this game being an expansion for the story arc in Halo 3 the same way Resident Evil 3 was set prior to (first half) and after the events (second half) of RE2. First part of game, Jump down and Retake the city, Second part to clean up the remaining Covenant left behind. Seems like a good premise to start with. Although one thing does not add up. That lone Drop pod at the end. It was not with any other pods. And the only other time there has been a "lone" person hinted at; it was regarding MC. I guess we will see exactly what the teased by that when they show more.

Agreed. I am done in that other thread. I like this thread much more. :D

So all those ODSTs are dropping from the sky and then one lone drop pad lands at the end.......Spartan???? God that would be badass.

+1

I think this campaign "expansion" will be paired up with all the mythic maps for a retail release of 30 bucks or something. It would explain why the total gamerscore of Halo 3's achievements exceeds the usual limit of 1250.

How many more people are gonna say this or rephrase it again?

Are you fucking serious lol. You are saying there was no effort put into Halo 3's campain.....lulz back to ignore

"Where should I tell them to go?"

"To war..."

give me a fucking break. I suck Bungie's cock 24/7 and even I know that shit like that was lame.

well I'm glad someone finally said it. We are the halo thread, we should be on the cutting edge of halo speculation and not lagging behind the general populace. Keep up guys.

Huh?

And is anyone else who can get on having any trouble with DLC BTB? I'm in party with one other person, and we can't seem to get a match. Right now it's at:
Games Found: 80
Possible Matches: 13

IAWTP

Games need far more campaign DLC. Its a much better strategy than releasing map packs that splinter your online community.

Of course, you could always do both.

Gameplay wise? hello?

We all know the dialog is pretty bad at times.

Gameplay wise I think that Halo 3 is the best.

Everything else...[except music! :P], well, there's a lot of things that could just be.../better/ in terms of story.

Although I do like the story in H3.

OH SHISHKA <33333

give me back rocket race. :(

That wasn't Dax's argument in the first place.

Dax01 said:
Bungie, PLEASE put effort into the story of this "expansion;" I don't want another repeat of Halo 3's plot.

Dax is pretty much right, the plot wasn't that mind blowingly awesome.

Dax01 said:
If "we all know" that the cut scenes in Halo 3 were bad, what is up with Blood's comment?
Not "all" Cutscense are "bad". Many Many cutscenes were made of pure WIN. The dialog in a few places just seemed off that is all.

It's a beautiful, yet sad day.

Sad because Eazy's flight has to go even though I don't want it to anymore. :(

Beautiful because we GET HALO 3 CAMPAIGN CONTENT. YESSSSSS. :D :D

The only cut scenes I can think of that measured up to Halo 2 were both at the beginning and ending of "The Covenant." I want the quality of the cutscenes to be comparable to Halo 1 and Halo 2's.

So I was thinking. If the release date is 1/6/9 for the Expansion and MP Maps that should mean the BWU's from here on out are juicy! Only 15 Fridays between now and then. :D

I salute you, sir. May the Flight rest in peace. There still may be a day where the Flight comes back to fight once more.
make more bets in the future to win it back! perhaps even bet against people with recon lolololololol

Man, you are like a broken record.

can we get a frame-by-frame analysis going? need more info.

For example - looks like the SI is the fancy computer system that monitors New Mombasa

Also, what does the explosion and corresponding message "EMP TRIP DETECT" mean (0:23ish)

How so?
Don't start replying ad hominem.
I thought the general consensus here was that, in terms of story, Halo 2 > Halo 1 > Halo 3, excluding the terminals? That is correct is it not? So why would it not be best for this campaign expansion of Halo?
GM Bullfrog said:
Weren't they the Blue team? Would that bring new meaning to the Halo: Blue entry that was being shown in some Wal-Mart catalog.
They were spartan Red team, if I recall correctly.

actually

Looks like I'm about two pages behind - but I'll still throw this out there. Remember all the disappointment with Halo 2 spending about 3 seconds on Earth - Bungie is making up for that in a big way. The only question is - ODST or something else... First person/3rd person, etc. etc.

Boundless is an extremely awesome map. I love the changes they made. It feels quite fresh and new.

The new teasers and doing the vidmaster challenge last night make me want to play lots more campaign co-op. So much gaming goodness in one day, I think my head is going to explode.

I think you are mistaken.

EDIT: From that link. Very Interesting.

Second Battle of Earth
Following her return to Earth, Linda, as well as Fred and Will, were called upon to perform a number of operations during the Second Battle of Earth up until November 3rd, 2552. These operations included numerous operations in orbit around Earth, such as stopping a Covenant invasion on Mount Erebus in Antarctica with a HAVOK tactical nuke, and destroying Covenant forces on the sea floor off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Following these operations, they were deployed to the Centennial Orbital Elevator (also known as Tallo Negro del Maiz) in Havana, Cuba to stop Covenant forces that had gathered there. Linda, along with the other Spartans, stopped the Covenant forces that had captured multiple nuclear warheads. The Spartans ascended the orbital elevator, destroyed one of the Covenant Capital Ships at the top, and captured another one; the Bloodied Spirit.

Going back to a discussion on the last page:

The lone drop pod most likely represents you, the player.

I don't think another Spartan character would make sense.

I don't see how the new expansion would have anything to do with new traditional (judging by Assembly) MP maps being released. There very well may be a connection between the two but I can't see why. Unless ODSTs move and jump like spartans and elites
:(
then I don't see how they'll play into the existing MP arena.

If those maps have been designed for the some new gameplay style of the ODST then why are their achievements so similar. You'd think there'd be some new ODST unique challenges they could have thrown in there instead.

So now that I know for sure Bungie is spending some more time in the Halo-verse and presumably messing around with the ODST, I'm still hoping for a game that feels VERY different. Something like a separate campaign and if they're really going to put two separate MP components in the same game I'd be really surprised. Seems like it would just divide the population even more.

I agree with that. The question now becomes, who are you? An ODST or one of the other remaining Spartans.

I had a late edit, but I don't know if it would make sense to have another Spartan character involved. That stuff is great and all for the books, but I think for the Halo story it is important that Chief is recognized as the lone Spartan who becomes the savior of earth.

Yeah, I'm not really sure. I just think it might be more than just coincidence that Halo: Blue is in that Wal-Mart catalog, the time frame is 2552, the same time Fred, Will and Linda are there on Earth, being members of the Blue team. Time will tell.

In any event, I am stoked to have more Halo coming down the pike! :D
