:lol I'm sure you would. You know, you have the upper hand here, you should be asking for more. Demand Flight armor to be required for all playlists!

But seriously, I'm sure that BTB will be back, at least by the November playlist update. Taking it out for any extended period of time seems like a serious mistake on bungie's part.

I mean, I'm trying to reassure myself, because it just doesn't make sense that BTB would be gone for ay extended period of time. There's got to be more playlists coming along soon, with them removing so many. For a while, the playlist list will be looking pretty bare.

Hmm...a couple decent changes. A couple of failed changes. Pretty much what I expected. The removal of Rocket Race was a given even though it's still the one playlist I can get a game within 30 seconds in and as Eazy said, it doesn't take away from the other playlists. Removing Head to Head is good but no Team Snipers? Fail.

Now we're going to have vacant Sandtrap and Rat Race maps. 6v6 is a great playlist, but there are a couple maps that just won't work for it. But relegating the gametypes to just Slayer and CTF is stupid. Assault is the most fun game on Halo 3. There are so many ways to customize the game that go unused. Oh well, not surprising.

Why do you want choppers in Valhalla so much? They don't add much...

I don't buy Legendary for people I know at work, because we make more than enough money, they just haven't bought it for different reasons. A couple of Urk's crew don't have it either, I don't completely know why. Plus it's a pain in the ass since you can't gift points anymore, and quite frankly I've already bought shit for enough people IRL and online (IIRC 12 Legendary packs, and two copies of the game for others). I'm fucking spent on being forced to pay for people (some of how honestly couldn't do it themselves), and I'm sure as hell not going to do it just because Bungie fucked up playlists. Too Human's keeping me and a couple other people occupied probably for the next while, and I've got a bunch of people bugging me to get Mercs 2 when that comes out, and I'm in the middle of a couple long RPGs; this is probably my jumping off point. Also the title update 2 is largely fluff and they could have easily addressed boosters/alts/people who quit for low exp by hiding your highest rank #, but they didn't even do that, it still ticks me off.

That picture was more of a "Domino is here for the family" than "Sailor give 'em your points". :lol

How exactly do you know that the AU2 will ONLY consist of the playlist ranks? I'm sure there's more that they'll tell us when we near its release.

To everyone complaining about the removal of 8 vs 8.
I want you to search deep within your soul and answer this honestly...

How many games of social big team, do the teams end up being 8 vs (6 or lower).

I find that for our group, in any given night when we get 8 of us together and decide to play social big team... We tend to have MAYBE 3 out of 10 matches, where no one quits on the opposite team. Seriously 3 of 10 - AT BEST.

And maybe 1 of those 3 matches (that manages to keep 8 vs 8 for the whole time) runs without of a lag hitch. I understand many of you feel personal freedoms are being taken away.. But that playlist seriously sucked.

What we have in it's place, is a new 8 vs 8 playlist that will consist only of players that bought the map-packs. Something most of us noticed in the DLC Objective playlist is that typically players who buy the map packs - are more likely to be halo enthusiasts, and tend to be just a little less likely to quit out. So if nothing else, this playlist will be Social BTB where MAYBE, just maybe, you'll get some longer more exciting matches... that doesn't consist of searching out the remaining 2-3 guys left on the other team, that are hiding in some corner and running down the clock like assholes. Now this new 8 vs 8 playlist, doesnt even really interest me that much... I am content to never play 8 vs 8 again until something is done about the quality of live matches. But even if I somehow enjoyed 8 vs 8... I'd be excited by the addition of the Map Packs, to at the very least shake things up in a really poorly preforming playlist.

I am glad to see Social Big Team go... I hope we spend our days on Squad matches.

I like the idea of focusing on the new maps for BTB, for a while. 16 on Avalanche is a thing of the gods. Hopefully Sandtrap, the Sandtrap variant and Valhalla get added back in with a reduced weighting in a month or so. Valhalla plays pretty well with 6 v 6. Sandtrap will be a touch barren, but with CTF and Slayer the focus, it could work.

Really, this whole list reads like the answer to a huge chunk of what we've been bitching about/asking for. For me personally, a ranked 6 v 6 playlist and a 16-player Avalanche are just plain awesome. Shishka sure can't please everyone, but everyone should find a lot to love in this update. I'm really impressed, especially with the shield door modifications. I like shield doors, but hey. Never let it be said Bungie doesn't listen.

I think the opposite, actually (about keeping RBTB, I agree with Dirtbag). Big team battle... it's chaos. Completely filled with quitting, unbalanced teams, terrible coordination, blowouts, betrayals, and other shenanigans. It's a less serious playlist that's a lot more about fun, and the best one to bring guests into. I think it's best as a social playlist.

Now, you still want a more chaotic ranked playlist than TS, but less out-of-control than RBTB, so really 6v6 is perfect for ranked. So essentially, Bungie did exactly what they should have... minus removing Social BTB.

Are you serious? The thing is a monster. It's not that slow, hard to flip, it has excellent firepower, it's a splatter machine, and boosting into enemy vehicles instantly destroys them. What's NOT to love?

Rank restrictions with 8 players makes finding matches at higher ranks - nigh impossible.
Add to that the inabilitiy for live to consistently host 8 vs 8 matches with lag hitches, and you have a forumla for major frustration. Having an 8 vs 8 playlist is just going to take some players out of this future 6 vs 6 playlist and I'd personally rather have a larger population of players in 6vs6 so our group can actually find matches when we get to ranks 30 and above.

We're in the extreme minority in that we'll go into SBTB with a team full high level players. And I've actually found that DLC Slayer has much worse competition because of the limits the map pack puts on the population. Just looking at my Halo.Junk.ws stats shows that I have a slightly better win:loss ratio in DLC Slayer than in SS (86:82). So the competition will not be better and has a chance of being worse.

Even if you want to assume that requiring the all the DLC makes for better competition, removing Valhalla, Sandtrap, and Last Resort doesn't do diddly except for cripple the playlist.

It's not that fun to drive.

Mongoose>Chopper.

I don't know dude, boosting right before you slam into a full warthog is really satisfying.
Just like the Wraith? Boosting is fun, but other than that, it's boring to drive.

Once you understand how to get a kill with it, you will understand how fun of a ride it is and much of a badass it makes you feel.

BTB worked fine w/ Halo 2. Why can't Halo 3 handle it? What's the technical hurdle (if there is one)?

i haven't been on Halo 3 in a long time but these appear to be some pretty drastic changes.....

Did they state that they removed those maps from this playlists that doesnt exist yet? I thought it read like a 'focus' on the dlc maps.. as in higher weighting for the mappacks... not necessarily full exclusion of those launch maps.

I honestly had wrote off Epitaph. I literally pissed and moaned about it around launch time because of the shield doors.. I'm pretty floored / excited that I actually got my wish.

One of a few times a bitched and moaned about it....

The two are not even comparable. They handle completely differently, and the two have completely different boosts.

It's more of a "people aren't really playing BTB" thing rather than what Live is capable of.

Well according to your own investigation, I have over 50 kills with it...

Hey, I have a question for Luke/Shishka/others: Will Epilogue and Boundless have different "lobby pictures" (the pictures of the map that you see in the pregame lobby) than Epitaph and Snowbound? It would be nice if there were new shots, preferably ones that showed the lack of shield doors, because there's a lot of people who won't notice or will be confused by the Epilogue/Epitaph Snowbound/Boundless issue.

The text that says which map is pretty small, and I'm sure most people just look at the picture.

Well blame Bungle for the rank restrictions. As JB said, it worked fine in Halo 2. There was no reason to fuck it up for Halo 3. 6v6 is great if you have the maps for it. But there aren't that many great 12-player maps. Avalance and Sandtrap are just too big for it. Rat's Nest is pushing it. Ghost Town, Standoff, Last Resort and Valhalla are about the only propper 6v6 maps.

Social needed to go because, as you said, people just quit and it was a blowout. When Bungle's matchmaking actually worked for RBTB, I always had a great match. Ham-fisted Bungle deletes it instead of fixing it. Though, they did more than I thought they would trying to save it. They just didn't do enough. But 6v6 is sounding just like BTB Lite, in which case, it'll still fail.

I don't think it will matter much. It's not like the maps will be that drastically different to the untrained eye. They will just flow so much better.

I do really wish this feature was possible for foundry maps. But we are past that now, next game though it would be awesome if someone could assign a screenshot to their custom map.

Just noticed - name change?
Yeah, after my disaster of a thread complaining about Starbucks employees being too firendly and touchy-feely, I PM'd an admin to see if I could get my name changed, because people were starting to think I was a joke character or something (it's an old family joke, geez, when I was little and I would yell at the games my mom would refer to me as 'the disgruntled gamer' when talking to my grandparents and her friends).

And we all know what happens to joke characters. But yeah, bish ignored me (I love your country, I really do), but EviLore changed it today, and for that I'm very thankful.

To the former, it's just that Epitaph and Snowbound always get veto'd in my experience, and I wouldn't want undiscerning eyes to veto Epilogue and Boundless, thinking they're the same.

To the latter, yes, I've really been wishing for that, especially since most forge maps have memorable looks, not memorable names.

It's not set in stone, but for the purposes of the September Update 8v8 games are either in Custom games or in the DLC playlist, which focuses on the DLC maps.

Judging from Luke's post, I think it's safe to say that Valhalla is not safe.

The upside being, the playlists will evolve over time, and I expect to see tons of 6vs6 Valhalla loving in Squad. But I hope Valhalla does make it's way back into this 8vs8 thing eventually (if not intially).

I'm also of the opinion that Valhalla is a better 12 person map then it is a 16 person map.... So to me, I'm much more focused on this squad playlist and what it has to offer.

No I don't want to blame Bungle anymore. I think its just 8vs8 isn't a popular playlist for ranked play. Its a hasstle, and like TDG said.. its laggy, quitty, heavy on betrayals, its just chaos mostly - none of which really lends itself to proper ranked play. It should remain a social playlist, and even when it does remain social only- it hasn't run consistently well enough for my own personal enjoyment... I'm sure plenty others will disagree with me there though.

6vs6 judging from DLC Objective play - is pretty much dead on. You can still coordinate team movements well, and the enemy team isn't constantly respawning when you invade a base (like on 8vs8 play). It's the sweet spot now given the gameplay choices of Halo3. The biggest improvement of 6v6 BTB Lite - is the tangible benefits of less lagg = better performance on the game.

You should wait and see how it plays out ----- I'll be over here, ready to drop an "I told you so" when you come around.

I hate to see Valhalla get dropped from anything... it's hands down one of the best maps in Halo 3.
Valhalla is hands down one of the best maps in the entire trilogy. Even the small things... spawns and weapon placement... work out. There are great hiding spots for snipers, but they aren't unfair... there's vehicles on the map that are neither overpowered nor underpowered. Everything about the map is beautifully crafted, and expertly designed. It is a true work of art.

Which reminds me... I thought it would be cool if we did some sort of organized event where every, I don't know, Sunday maybe (Thursday? I'm just throwing stuff out there), we could talk about a specific map. What's good about it, what's awful, what could be improved, how much you like it, and we could post some of our favorite screens and videos from games on the map. It would probably be a disaster, but it could be cool if it worked out.

Yeah, it plays well with 12. The man cannons get players into combat very quickly. Sandtrap can be a bit of a hike on foot when vehicles are toasted or when spawing away from the base, so fewer players can make it feel more empty.

Valhalla really is a masterpiece. I'll never get tired of it.

We might need to ban Chopper discussion from the maps discussion. It's just so unneccessary and repetetive, since every map would be made better by having Choppers.

But if most people are into the idea, then I'll definitely start setting some stuff up. I already have several ideas.

You should change you avatar back to Guile then change your name.. So those people that know you by avatar can make the connection. "Eggs L" incoming?

I just came in to say that...

Halo 3 with Forge + Replays + 360 LAN party = game of the forever.

Sooooo awesome to get together with a few friends and play on an custom map you made, then watch the replay and find out "how you killed me there" etc. (two hour match with snipers on Sandtrap in this case)

One of the best gaming experiences I've had.

Eh, dunno what to think about this playlist update (the Big Team changes mostly).

It'll be nice to finally have 16 player Avalanche matches, but I'll miss Valhalla and Sandtrap and Last Resort. I would think that requiring all the DLC packs would limit the player population there too.

I don't think I could handle a name change. I'm still trying to get used to his avatar not being some muscle bound he-man.
