I didn't play much of big team but i'm looking forward to this new squad playlist. The connections should be better just because there are at least 4 less people. I used to play a bunch of the 6v6 playlist in Halo 2...forgot the name though

edit: and I love double team being all maps required...i wanna play on ghost town more often in matchmaking.

Whoa, awesome update.

So I'm completely on board for the 6v6 playlist - I think it's friggin brilliant, because it should allow a good number of new maps in the mix taht would have otherwise been passed over due to size constraints. Hopefully we get some 6v6 CTF on Last Resort; I wonder how many people can play on Spacecamp/Moonbase Alpha. Some of the other changes, like Snow Tarp, should be awesome as well.

So Purple Reign is finally revealed to be Assembly. Does this play into the Scarab assembly-line theory a bunch of us were pushing around a while back? Anyways, it's mid-size, symmetrical and visual similar to Midship, so, for me, it's already grand. Can't wait to try it out next week.

PAX schedule looks sweet and the Traxus shirt is completely and without a doubt bad ass.

LukeSmith said:
Will us peasants who don't go to PAX get any screens or videos or anything of Assembly (the week of PAX or so, not on one specific day)? Because if not, that seriously sucks.

Exclusive t-shirts make me swoon. Major sadness I can't be there. If anyone could grab an extra I would repay them with sexual favors hot sexy money.

Removing Rocket Race? Fuck that. It's the playlist I go to about 80% of the time I play the game, now. The population was always small, but it never took long to get into games. Fucking weak.

They're putting it into multi-team, but yeah it was nice giving it it's own category as it's usually the game type I would switch to after I'd start getting frustrated with Swat or Slayer.

Maybe some press will play it and give us some video and/or screens.

Sort of. Squad Battle will feel quite familiar to RBTB fans. Just not quite as cozy.

I actually loved 6v6 in H2 and I don't play BTB half as much as I'm likely to play Squad Battle, but its still sad to see the awesomeness that is 16 players on Valhalla go the way of T-Rex.

I feel bad that my joke compelled you to waste all that time writing your post, especially when you seriously missed the point.

The point is simply that Bungie listens - in general - to their fans. It wasn't that Bungie listens to every single complaint random message board crybaby #8976 (codename: kylej) has.

It's a shame you can't shake this idea that you're the center of the universe. Most people understand that by the time they turn nine or so.

In recent weeks we’ve released a pair of machinima-based awards acceptance speeches. In both cases, astute fans noticed some hints and chicanery associated with both of these videos (if you’ve somehow missed them, watch them in the Bungie Media Player now). Additionally, in both cases overly zealous, froth-filled fans bathed in excitement, undoubtedly quivering at things they are looking at with a far-too strong microscope.

There will be no insertion of Campaign objects, enemies or friendlies via the Forge as folks have speculated. There will be no “bots” added to the game. The “set” on Rat’s Nest was designed to appear like a backlot of a film set, a holding area, not some depiction of a brand-new feature that implements Campaign objects into multiplayer. Do consider this issue a closed one. Calm yourselves down, pump the brakes, and take a breath.

No campaign objects injected into forge? Expected. I thought people was blowing this out of proportion. Although, some people thought that you would be able to snap objects into place, like a map editor, that doesn't seem to be denied nor confirmed. No mention at all. Hype machine once again? :D

Before we drill into the playlist specific changes, here’s the list of changes that will affect all of matchmaking.

* Added Epilogue – Epitaph with no Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
* Added Boundless – Snowbound with reduced Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
* Added Sand Tarp – Sandtrap sans Elephants, default team spawns switched in one-sided games. Added alongside default map variant.
* Added Pit Stop – The Pit with inaccessible spawn hives. Added alongside default map variant.
* Ghost Town – No longer appears in any symmetrical gametype.
* Team Slayer – Spawning configuration in default Team Slayer now includes a secondary weapon – the magnum

The maps without shield doors sound very interesting. Not sure what could happen regarding gameplay. I think there'll be more map movement and quicker pace.

I'm not sure about Sand Tarp, although it fixes a certain problem when the other team would drive your elephant to their own. It's frustrating but it might make CTF games easier and more manageable. Pit Stop is pure win.

Ranked Big Team Battle

* This playlist is retired.
Sad to see this go, but it wasn't working well.
Introducing Squad Battle

* Squad Battle is a Ranked six on six Playlist designed to fill some of the void left by excising Ranked Big Team Battle from the Halo 3 Playlists. Squad Battle gametypes are focused on Slayer and Capture the Flag and this playlist currently requires the Heroic Map Pack.

A replacement for RBTB with less players to match up in a game of matchmaking. This could be a winner.

Big Team Social

* This playlist is retired.

Epic sadness.

DLC Big Team

* Eight on eight Social Slayer and Objective action (Gametypes from Big Team Social)
* Focused on DLC content (Requires both Heroic and Legendary Map Packs)

Epic happiness.

Head to Head

* This playlist is retired.

I know some people really liked this mode, I don't really recall any major objections to this playlist. I guess there wasn't enough people along with Rocket Race (although DOUBLE EXP WEEKENDS confirmed for it) for it to exist in matchmaking permanently.

MLG

* This playlist is retired.

k? make it happen

Why would you want MLG to be retired? In a few years when most of the Halo population has moved on to something else, there will still be a good amount of MLG players. Theres about 6-7 thousand playing at once but that number is gonna remain the same for a long time.

I agree. While I will miss the BTB gametypes (especially ranked), getting into a game was becoming impossible and lag was a killer. Hopefully we will get a proper 8v8 reboot sometime in the future.

With regards to the new Epitaph (Epilogue) please get that in Team Slayer ASAP. There is no reason to not allow Epitaph (Epilogue) in a 4v4 match now.

And this one's to Microsoft: Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, release the Legendary maps for free. I really want to start playing these maps on a more regular basis without having to resort to the DLC playlists. Thank you.

shotty snipers still in team slayer = fail.

Indeed. Team Snipers needs its own playlist and snipers matches need to be removed completely from Team Slayer.

Well after coming home from a long day of work to find out that someone has been making an ass load of fraudulent charges on of my credit cards, its nice to read good news in the WWU. Thanks Shiska.

MLG
is okay, but I would fix some
needs
of the mode, like the weapon sandbox. Although MLG players have discovered jumps which are quite fun
to
perform. It's like without jumps, you
go
from point 1 to point 2 to point 3. With jumps, it's like point 1 to point 3.

It's really not for bungie to fix though. It's up to the MLG community to fix it and test it (get word from the pros) and then send it over to Bungie to throw it on.

Eh, while it will undoubtedly play better without the shields, I still think the level is poorly designed with lousy sightlines and I already know it'll be an AR-fest. This is all speculation as I've never played a proper game on Epitaph without sheilds so I'll withhold my final judgement. Please don't let this creep into TS.

Epitaph w/o shield doors deserves a spot in Ranked Team Slayer. Variety is the spice of life. I can only play so much BRs on The Pit (which I love, but come on, let's get some variety here...)

Maybe Epilogue with BR starts (and no rocket) is the perfect compromise.

First of all... no 8v8 Valhalla?!?!?!?!? and now Sandtrap will be the barren huge map instead of Avalanche? This has got to change. Just make the DLC Big Team into a playlist that using all BTB maps and require the DLC. I mean who decided Valhalla had to go? The only time I'll get to it play half-properly is in laggy, cheating-heavy ranked games. :(

Now that I've got that out of the way, it's time for me to dissect:

Before we drill into the playlist specific changes, here’s the list of changes that will affect all of matchmaking.

* Added Epilogue – Epitaph with no Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
Eh, while it will undoubtedly play better without the shields, I still think the level is poorly designed with lousy sightlines and I already know it'll be an AR-fest. * Added Boundless – Snowbound with reduced Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
Good deal, I've played a few matches on it without the doors and it actually plays decent. What I don't understand/fear with both Epilogue and Boundless is their weighting. There's no reason to keep the old versions in there and hopefully the weighting works out so that the combined weighting of both the old and new versions don't add up to any more than they used to. If they're treated like seperate maps and each pop up just as much as they used to, I'll be sad.

* Added Sand Tarp – Sandtrap sans Elephants, default team spawns switched in one-sided games. Added alongside default map variant.
So I'm assuming that the only place Sandtrap will ever pop up in is in the new 6v6 playlist, eh, don't understand enough to comment but my gut isn't liking what it's hearing.

* Added Pit Stop – The Pit with inaccessible spawn hives. Added alongside default map variant.
No real need to keep the default map varient. Atleast block it off for swat, snipers, oddball, vip, and juggernaught.

* Ghost Town – No longer appears in any symmetrical gametype.
Thanks

* Team Slayer – Spawning configuration in default Team Slayer now includes a secondary weapon – the magnum
:lol :lol :lol oh wait, wait wait... :lol :lol :lol
Not funny, BR please

Ranked Playlists

Lone Wolves

* Player count increases from six players to 8 players.
Seems like a bit much for maps like Smuggler, Guardian, and maybe Blackout. Then again, I despise FFA so do as you wish Bungie :D

Team Objective

* Crazy King Hill times increased to one minute. Hill Movement set to Sequence (was Random).
Seems reasonable

Team Doubles

* This playlist now requires ALL content (Cold Storage, Legendary and Heroic maps are being used in Team Doubles)
* Objective Gametypes have had their appearance frequency reduced.
* Crazy King Hill times increased to one minute. Hill Movement set to Sequence (was Random).
Don't play doubles but they're all great changes.

Ranked Big Team Battle

* This playlist is retired.
I wanted to see this playlist at one time but we quickly realized it was a disaster. R.I.P. RBTB. At least now SBTB can do away with all the bullshit gametypes like Territories, VIP, etc. and it's gametypes and weighting can look more like RBTB with awesome gametypes like heavies.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Be prepared to have no one play Team Objective anymore though. May as well do away with that playlist now. This is the playlist TO should have always been.

Social Playlists

Big Team Social

* This playlist is retired.
Hold the fuck on! What happened here? RBTB is finally gone so you can stop handicapping SBTB in an attempt to entice people to play ranked. SBTB can now fill RBTB's place. Ugh, biggest disappointment in the update. No no no no no

Rocket Race
* This playlist is retired.
Multi Team
* Rocket Race has been added to the gametypes and set with a low weighting.
Eh, saw this one coming. I think RR was fine where it was, it had enough population to sustain itself and didn't take away from other playlists' population. At least we'll be seeing it in multi-team and in double exp weekends.

DLC Playlists

Since Big Team was cut from Social, eight on eight action is reborn in the overhauled DLC playlists section of Matchmaking. DLC Slayer and Objective are both retired. These playlists require Halo 3 Downloadable Content (at least up through Legendary, but in the case of FFA, it requires all DLC) to participate.
Sad to see DLC slayer go, it'll be tough getting matches on Ghost Town, Blackout, and the upcoming DLC maps with it gone. DLC Objective was a pretty good playlist but it seems other playlists pick up its slack.

DLC FFA

* This is an eight-player Free For All hopper focused on DLC content. The gametypes contained herein are a mix of Slayer, Objective and Infection modes.
Ugh, more FFA? Oh well, it's cool to see some Infection slipping in there.
DLC Big Team

* Eight on eight Social Slayer and Objective action (Gametypes from Big Team Social)
* Focused on DLC content (Requires both Heroic and Legendary Map Packs)
Continuing my utter disappointment in this decision. I see no reason why Valhalla, Sandtrap, and Last Resort couldn't be in here. 8v8 isn't even that good for Standoff and even a tad cramped for Rat's Nest.
"(Gametypes from Big Team Social)"

What a fuck up, give me a break, why can't we have the gametypes from RBTB. They fit perfectly in there and even if the 6v6 playlist pick up some of them, I don't want to have to deal with such a high weighting for VIP, Territories, and Covies. Get that shit outta there and give me CTF, neutral assualt, and heavies.

Hardcore Playlists
Team SWAT

* Objective Gametypes, SWATGuns set to skip after veto
* Weighting on all Objective games, SWATGuns and Magnums reduced
* Player Damage Resistance set to 150% (was 200%), players no longer spawn with grenades
* SWAT map variants now have Carbines and grenades available to pick up.
Good stuff

Head to Head

* This playlist is retired.
Who didn't see this one coming even before that abortion of a playlist was added.

Once my rage settles I'll probably decide I like overall setup of MM more but for now I can only focus on all the screw-ups I see. Cheers.

It should be tried out by the community for a little while and then if it is received well, it should be put into TS. It is very much a close range assault rifle dominated map so I personally don't want that map in my TS because I am totally for BR starts all of the time.

And you could never get enough of BRs on the Pit.

It was a Halo Project, which doesn't necessarily mean a game. I think.

What a load of shit :( all we play is big team battle. This is why halo needed a server list, so we don't have to put up with this match making.

Squad sounds fair I guess, and the DLC BTB is nice, can't wait to play Avalanche with 16 players.

The BR is already an extremely valuable weapon on normal Epitaph in Team Doubles. 4v4 would work well with BR starts. Epitaph in any form is superior to Construct and Isolation, for instance.

And of course, we won't start the discussion on BR starts here... :D

Wow. Bungie is really dedicated to its legion of fans. Enough people made a fuss about the shied doors in Snowbound and Epitaph, and as a result, we get shield door-less version of both maps.

And the award for "Developer Involvement With its Community" goes to....BUNGIE! Make a machinima that too many will read into and accept my award :)

Lone Wolves

Player count increases from six players to 8 players.

Holy crap! Tantalizing.

I think I played Ranked/Social Big Team maybe once or twice. It'll be like I never knew it was even there.

And in 3 hours, I can play Halo again :)

EDIT: :( Head-to-Head is retired before I got a chance to play it (I'm still holding out on the Legendary Map Pack and waiting for that contest to end to collect my free 700 MPs)

6v6 is still the secret sweet spot they have not tapped for Standoff, Rat's Nest, Last Resort, Valhalla etc. and I will be sad to see them go. I honestly could not care less if I never played a game of Sandtrap again in my life

Soon will be finished my dissertaition and run out of money and sober times and job time will begin

For now I spit on all of the above

HILL IS SEQUENCE AND 1 MIN

Ever since launch, one of my biggest pet peeves has been shotty snipers showing up in Team Slayer. Can't believe it still hasn't been addressed. Snipers needs it's own playlist.

In the meantime, I will continue to exit to dashboard on shotty sniper games.

Agreed. Why on earth do we still not have 1-sided or Heavy gametypes in BTB? Lets go already.

Oh shit, I just noticed the BTB thing. Well that's fucked; we only play in large groups, and some of the guys don't have Legendary. So now we literally can't play, that's fucking great. And on top of that Valhalla and Sandtrap are apparently low weighted, and there's still no 1-sided Heavy, which I've actually gotten to play all of one time. Wow, major fuckup. My Halo game boner is gone from the Snowbound and Sandtrap changes, moving right along to other games.

With four playlists retired in the upcoming update, you've got to think that there will be additions in the near future. With any luck, one of those will be a Team Snipers playlist. And a new and improved BTB.

You know, I don't even know why I bother responding to your posts. First of all, you usually drastically misunderstand my posts, then instead of actually responding you just insult me. It's becoming pretty clear that all you want to do is fight and prove that you're tougher than me. I'll give this one more shot, and who knows, maybe we can make peace:

1. My point was only ever that Bungie [in general] listens to their fans, contrary to what you often post. When you responded with all of your unresolved complaints, it was clear that you missed my point. I'm sure that you would've posted your thoughts either way.

2. I don't really understand why you keep referencing my name. It's not a schtick, it's an old family joke. Have you forgotten that you are the one who is usually pissed at someone/Bungie/everyone, while I'm the one who's defending Bungie/myself. So by that logic, you'd be the disgruntled gamer, wouldn't you?

3. I'm guessing the PM reference was supposed to be your big burn, so let's explore that. Back in the days when member drama was a bit less welcomed and regular around here, you posted something completely off-topic about what a bad poster I am and how all my posts something-or-other. I PM'd you saying that if you had a problem with my posting style, I'd prefer that you let me know, and not post it in the thread when it has nothing to do with Halo. This is another incident of you trying to start something with me.

So, whatever you vandetta against me is, I want to give you one last chance do drop it (or explain it, the PM box is open!) so we can end our little war without ignore lists. I agree with many of your posts and opinions and would like to just put this behind us, but most of your posts (in the thread in general) just seem devoted to fighting with me. So, are you willing to move beyond this?
