Luke, you need to find your Mister Chief for the updates, for boring times like these.
Or contract out the drawings to Frankie. Hopefully he's not too busy milking out the Halo franchise :P

Just because everyone ignored your first post doesn't mean you have to try again.

I hope you're alluding to the fact that he's already made a cardboard replica of almost everything else Halo.

You are incorrect, Eazy. My first post is saying I wish we could have had a Forerunner tank in Halo 2, my second post is saying I want a Forerunner tank in general.

@Urk, I could do that, but what do you think a Forerunner tank would look like?

So a couple of pages ago, there was a lot of hating on Cortana, as a level (with a few people throwing in some support). You might be interested to know that there are those at Bungie who feel the same way. (The same way as the haters, not the supporters. :) )

http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=892509

I like Cortana (the level) even more after that presentation. I'm coining a new phrase for Cortana (the level): wretched beauty. Watch the WMV found in that zip file...awesome sauce indeed.

Ya'll need to go play Ikaruga or something. Grow some kahones, it's not that hard of a level. A+ stuff.

I'm probably being incredibly stupid, but what zip file?

Bungie Weekly Update is up - http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=15268

Update is great, better than they have been lately, but the first part is a bit disappointing.
There will be no insertion of Campaign objects, enemies or friendlies via the Forge as folks have speculated. There will be no “bots” added to the game. The “set” on Rat’s Nest was designed to appear like a backlot of a film set, a holding area, not some depiction of a brand-new feature that implements Campaign objects into multiplayer. Do consider this issue a closed one. Calm yourselves down, pump the brakes, and take a breath.

We’ve of course heard the gums flapping on the Internet that Bungie is making more Halo stuff. We’ve never said that we’re finished with Halo 3; in the Edge acceptance video, we confirmed that the ride isn’t over. Ever since our independence last year and taking control of our destiny, we've been pretty open about the fact that we have three distinct projects underway within Bungie and they aren't all Halo related.

I just got 2 voice messages from the dude/s we posted about last night (stand by game)

"hey a, by the way, there is also another guy, if you want to move this case forward, anyways i already have my 50, (some mumbling) by the way, "integrated zero" (i have no how that gamertag is spelled) also standbyed. so might want to ban him too."

"heheheh, you really think i care. haha. hugs and kisses. heheh" << should be banned for sounding like a douche.

:lol :lol :lol

Remember, Remember It's Nearly September

The September Playlist update is going to be a bit different than previous months. First, the Playlist update will not be implemented until September 16. Before the bitter tears splash gently on your keyboard, we’re holding the September update until the 16th to coincide with Title Update 2, which releases on that very same day. The September playlist update is arguably the meatiest update Halo 3 has seen and something Shishka has been working on various aspects of throughout the summer months.

Snowbound and Epitaph have long been the source of much discussion and curiosity with e-folks wondering “What if there were no Shield Doors?” on this pair of maps. Admittedly, we were curious, too. Jon Cable, one of our Sandbox Engineers, rejiggered an internal-use-only (as in, this will NEVER be available to folks, because it’s cagey, primitive and inelegant for public consumption, yet perfectly acceptable for our internal purposes) version of Forge that allowed Shield Doors to be deleted.

Epilogue and Boundless are the products of these tweaks that players can look forward to next month. Epilogue is the Shield Door-free version of Epitaph and it has seen some tweaks and knob-turns to the weapon layout, as well.

Unlock Epilogue, Boundless isn’t entirely sans Shield Doors. In both High and Low base, there are two entrances from the top middle portion of the map – those Shield doors remain. The others (at Shotgun, in the ice tunnels and out the back doors of both High and Low Base) have been removed. Like Epilogue, Boundless has its own series of weapon layout changes.

Epilogue and Boundless will not be replacing Epitaph and Snowbound in matchmaking, but rather they will exist side by side with the other maps – the focus in the short-term is to prioritize these revisions over the existing maps, so you should see Epilogue and Boundless more than Epitaph and Snowbound.

A new, Elephant-less version of Sandtrap, called Sand Tarp, will also appear in Matchmaking. In one-sided games Shishka has also flipped the attacking and defending side of the map – so instead of having to pull the flag out of the impenetrable crypt, the attacking team will spawn in the crypts and have to work their way to the downed Pelican side of the map.

Before we drill into the playlist specific changes, here’s the list of changes that will affect all of matchmaking.

* Added Epilogue – Epitaph with no Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
* Added Boundless – Snowbound with reduced Shield Doors. Added alongside default variant.
* Added Sand Tarp – Sandtrap sans Elephants, default team spawns switched in one-sided games. Added alongside default map variant.
* Added Pit Stop – The Pit with inaccessible spawn hives. Added alongside default map variant.
* Ghost Town – No longer appears in any asymmetrical gametype.
* Team Slayer – Spawning configuration in default Team Slayer now includes a secondary weapon – the magnum
* Shishka is shuffling up the existing suite of playlists, moving things around, deleting others and adding some new playlists.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

I'm okay with the turret iteration of the Pure Form, since it created a different kind of combat - ranged - with the Flood. My first round with them was brutal, but once you know what weapons to bring, they're not bad. Floodgate really is the perfect Flood mission - atmospheric, short, intense and not cramped.
Would have been nice to hit the lake bed once more on our way back around the Traxus warehouses, like you do in the previous level - that way, they could have given us a Warthog and unleashed the floodgates. Literally. I used to hate on Cortana, but I don't anymore. I'd originally imagined it (Chief rescuing Cortana) as being a urban-centric level played out on the lower districts of High Charity, near the base of where the dreadnought was located. I won't lie. The idea of vehicle carnage integrated into Flood situations - this time WITHOUT homing rockets, gets me giddy. That being said, while I don't play the real thing often, there are aspects of it which are really quite awesome from a story perspective which I've talked about with Cocop and that I'm pretty certain we'll see when he covers it in Hindsight: Halo 3. And yeah, it has one of the best lines and most illuminating lines in the history of the franchise:

Child of my enemy, why have you come? I offer no forgiveness - a father's sins passed to his son.

Couple that line with this one, from the next level:

Resignation is my virtue. Like water I ebb and flow. Defeat is simply the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved... but you imposed.

...and you have to wonder if the Forerunners had a hand in actually making the Flood - something I shied away from when I was working on the "Headstones" piece for AJ. It seemed a little too far out there, but these lines are intriguing none the less, especially if the Gravemind truly was a monument of certain Forerunner sins.

Holy SHIT @ September Update. OH SNAP! That was a fucking amazing Update.

Removing Rocket Race? Fuck that. It's the playlist I go to about 80% of the time I play the game, now. The population was always small, but it never took long to get into games. Fucking weak.

YES. YES. YES. ALL OVER MY FACE.

Thanks Bungie. :D

Thanks for the CTR+C, CTR+V oml3t.

Bungies been busy. The new playlists are welcome, Ranked BTB RIP, I'd like to see Rocket Race show up every once and a while as a Weekend Double EXP Playlist.

Yah for 6v6
Yah for new maps

What is Pit Stop? Changed spawns?

Great stuff Bungie!

Yup. The playlist update is a fucking motherlode. Yanked shield doors? 6 v 6 playlist? Only 8 v 8 is DLC-focused?

Shishka: I think you are kind of neat.

As for the shirts, "One of each, please."

This is going to happen.

I think most people call the spawn hives in The Pit "the attics." You will no longer be able to enter those. This version of The Pit will be used on specific gametypes, such as Oddball or SWAT, where people can abuse those areas.

The periods in between major announcements and any sort of reveals are lean ones. However in these lean times, on these long treks through barren, sun-scorched deserts, small scraps of manna have fallen from on high.

I see you went with the Biblical metaphor.

I'm very sad I won't be at PAX. That Traxus tee is ballin.

One last time, MLG crybabies!

YES. Thank you god.

Rocket Race

HA HA. Beautiful

Couple concerns:

Does this mean we can no longer have 8v8 battles on Valhalla, Sandtrap and Last Resort since BTB Social is gone? We can only have 8v8 on Avalanche, Standoff and Rat's Nest?

How much of a difference will a 50% decrease in damage resistance do in SWAT? Not saying anything against it, I'm just alittle confused.

It's not set in stone, but for the purposes of the September Update 8v8 games are either in Custom games or in the DLC playlist, which focuses on the DLC maps.

It's like taking away my Spanish gold dubloons and replacing them with those little coin-shaped chocolates with gold wrapping, but at least it's something.

I would really love more details on the new best playlist, Squad Battle. Please tell me it is more objective than slayer. And BR starts, right?

Ah, I see. Still good. :D

Looking forward to playing Assembly. :P Can't wait for PAX.

I guess Squad Battle is going to be my new home now.

listen up bungle, BTB has been never been the same since you first took it out in H2, but now this is your chance to redeem yourself. More objective gametypes. Last Resort is a cool map, so make sure it has like one bomb and one flag. Infact, just make sure that any gametypes with flags or bombs rule this playlist.

also lol at rocket race thank the goddess its gone!

Pretty solid update all-around. A little sad about the BTB change since I don't have the 2nd map pack (I'm still playing Halo 3, but not enough to justify the $10). Also a little sad about Rocket Race being gone.

To me, the big change (besides the new shield door-free maps) is LW going from 6 people to 8. This should pretty dramatically alter the personality of the gametype... I haven't played LW in months, but I'll likely be back into it now, as a result. MIGHT actually try to raise my 35 to a 40... we'll see.

really great changes, mucho props to bungie!

squad battle sounds so promising - need more details though ..alternate radar and no radar versions? plz :D

So basically I've been right all along, it just took Bungie 12 months to implement those ideas.

Radar still needs to be removed and BR starts need to be mandatory across every playlist.

BTB still won't have any 1-sided or King gametypes.
There are no new gametypes in any playlist, as a matter of fact.
1-sided VIP and VIP and Land Grab still exist and their weights haven't been changed at all in Skirmish.
Team Duals still exists.
Covies still exists.

Last Resort is still in the Team Slayer playlist.
Default Foundry is still in TS and Social.
Still no permanent Team Snipers.
Still no permanent Fourth of July.
No BRs added to Standoff, Hog respawn time not reduced on Standoff.
No equipment changes (Isolation? Hello?).

Oh, and of course the spawns have not been worked on at all, unless they're fixed in the AU2 and we just don't know yet.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great update. It's the best update to date. But I see a lot of things being removed in that big list, and not much being added. The single biggest problem with Halo today is the lack of variety. VIP and Land Grab and to a lesser extent Territories have long overstayed their welcome.

Nice work on that sarcastic reply though. "The Disgruntled Gamer" laying down the law once again. :lol

Wha... no more BTB Ranked OR Social?

Valhalla is one of the best maps of the trilogy. It's a shame that it won't have an 8v8 playlist that features it heavily.

However, Squad Battle sounds awesome.

Epitaph with no shield doors!!!!

OH MY GOD. I think I made the most noise about this one. I am really excited about this map!

Thanks Bungle!!!!

RANKED 6 vs 6 !!! This update is like a gift for me!!!

Great decisions Shiska!!!!!!

BOOOOSHHH

Can anybody who is going to PAX buy me at least one of the shirts? I'll pay you extra. Please, I don't just want to get ripped later by some e-bay jerk.

I'm thinking that BTB is taking a break until it can get the attention it deserves. Although some of the backseat-developers here may not believe it, it seems that changes and adjustments take a lot of time to make, and I'm thinking that Bungie's removing the playlist for now, and will bring it back in a month or two with a lot of fresh new changes and variants.

I'm disappointed that Valhalla won't be able to be apprectiated in 8v8 glory for now, but it's going to be great in 6v6, and it's a lot of fun for 4v4 Snipers.

Squad Battle sounds like my new home. BR Starts are needed, however.

what is the exact reasoning for taking social btb out? the population number was pretty good and was at least twice as much as ranked btb. was it one of those 2 for 1 dealios where if ranked had to go so did social?

I'm actually really suprised that most of you think valhalla is a good 8 vs 8 map.
I think 6 vs 6 is perfect for valhala, and much closer to its target numbers. Avalanche and sandtrap are the only maps that I feel play better at 8 vs 8 than 6 vs 6 (albiet lag issues).

I think most of you guys are going to really find yourselves liking 6vs6 much more than you think.

This playlist is going to be awesome. I'm pumped.

EDIT: No elephants is going to be a really awesome change up on Sand Tarp, I'm really looking forward to this change. Jesus, what an update.

I guess its to round up all of the big team players and get them into the new Squad playlist. Trying not to spread the population too thin.

So people buy the new maps probably, and like someone above posted surely to consolidate the playlists populations. There were just too many playlists before that was causing issues finding games (especially late night).
