So terrible update. Can we get an update on when playlists will be BR/AR starts?

I found the Bonus Round section really interesting. The confirmation on what to install was nice also. I would of liked more reasoning behind why though.

Sorry for dropping out there, forgot that in about 9 minutes Monk and Psych are coming on. Plus, after dealing with Free For All, I was getting aggravated, especially after being killed by that stupid Banshee at the beginning.

The bonus round sounds awesome. After playing Trails HD a lot I think it would've been really sweet to have a ton of mini games set up similar to how the bonus round is. Have mini games where there's like waves purely consisting hunters or brute chieftains and a bunch of other wacky stuff.

Damn, all those pointless words and no hint of what we'll get in the September Matchmaking Update? I'm on the edge of my seat here!

They have already told us. ODST being a new development, they had time to update the tech to account for HDD installs. The Mythic disc is just the same as Halo 3 (sans Campaign) and would require a patch to be updated. That would require resources and time they didn't have. Also from what I have heard developers get 2 free patches. Halo 3 has already seen those 2. A third patch would cost money outside of the resources required to implement and test. Just not feasible from a business standpoint.

You really think there is going to be a September update when he exhausted himself by:

1. Using rehashed dbl exp playlists in August
2. Using other peoples maps and throwing them all in a playlist for 7.7 BvW.
3. Removing TWO WHOLE fusion coils from Valhalla
4. Reusing the 7.7 playlist for 8.7

Geez hes done SO MUCH and you just EXPECT a September update too?!

Plus hes making Grifball RANKED! The man is a fucking machine.

That's really happening? Lol wow
yes, who the fuck knows why. It's one of the low points in Halo 3 MM in my opinion.

A noticeably low point? That's like swimming in a pool of turds and getting angry when a log hits you in the face.

Matchmaking is so hilarious. Shishka goes to Certain Affinity, runs back to the warm embrace of Bungie when he can't take a real work environment. Now he gets to yell at ForgeHub members and threaten to ban people from Atlas because they broke a rule he had in his head without fear of punishment.

Remember his excuse earlier this year when he said his devkit was taken away and that's why the monthly (once a month updates lmao) were so sparse? Forgetting the fact that their quality hasn't increased since, I think it's telling that the real employees have no problem getting equipment to do their job and that nobody noticed a change in his production :lol

When you hire Bungie.net forum moderators this is what you get, I guess.

This was a good game.

According to that Bungie page, I didn't finish the game. However, for me I was the only one playing. For about 2 minutes I was just walking around a big empty map. Then it decided to randomly end.

I should have vetoed..

Ugh. Look, there are things in matchmaking I don't like. What I know for a fact is that some of those things other people love. Shishka puts himself visibly in the line of fire for a lot of hate based on purely subjective criteria to balance the matchmaking so that it appeals to a wide range of people with utterly different tastes - and even if you don't like say, Duality with AR starts, somebody else does - and that fact ensures that there are more people playing the variations you do like.

So even when "Shishka" has picked something you don't like, it's a net benefit for the size and range of population.

Making specific jabs at his work ethic, or perceived respect for the fanbase is a slippery slope. Even if you hate everything you play - Shishka loves the fanbase, loves Halo, has a thankless, difficult job that guarantees he can't please everyone ever, and he works super hard.

Shishka sucks, Ghetto Lord British, animated gifs - these are all fair game - but going after his professional ethic without any context beyond the subjective, is not useful.

Just bullet point list the things you hate - it is easier for someone in his position to digest than: YOU ARE TERRIBLE and will have more practical effect and benefit for the things you don't like.

And let's remember that this thread is one of the best, healthiest and most maturely productive in all of NeoGaf. We can keep it that way, even as we pick on Juices.

Here's a drink and a salute to Shishka, who is an imperfect man with a ridiculous resemblance to Lord British, but a hard working and thoroughly decent, talented chap, who should be applauded and communicated to, not berated.

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

I agree with this.

District 9 was fucking amazing. Go see it now.

God Microsoft blew it.

Microsoft didn't blow anything. Blomkamp was awesome. Jackson is wonderful. District 9 is proof he could have made something spectacular. We wanted to work with him. It didn't work out for a plethora of reasons that weren't necessarily anyone's to control.

I hear throwing money at them is an extremely effective way of getting them to create a movie.

Imagining what could have been is sometimes more hurtful than it is comforting. :(

Why would he be? Just get a tall enough person someone 6' 7"-11, have him never take off the helmet and keep Chiefs voice actor.

He's a bit agile. Someone that tall would move around like a moron with the armor. :lol

Don't know what to really say to this. On one hand I trust you but on the other I know money was somehow the crux of the matter.

It's no use in lamenting on what could of been.

Maybe all the parties involved can still band together after realizing what a success District 9 was.

I recall in an interview with either a producer or director mentioning how hes the perfect mix of strength and energy for someone his height. Though he's 6" 3'. So... damn

They could use clever camera angles? Idk. o>O

As for Shiska, how can you hate the guy. It's clear he cares about what the community thinks. Hell, he listened to our bitching and moaning about Team Snipers.

Give the guy a damn break.

Goddammit team mates. I went 40-18 and lost. I went +22, had as many headshots, killing sprees, and flag carrier kills as the entire other team put together and lost. My name is listed by 4 of the 5 opponents names as the player who killed them most. I tied for that honor for the fifth. I even pulled the Chuck Howley and was the MVP despite playing on the losing team. Goddammit team mates.

I'm really looking forward to Longshore. I love BTB and I love how they made a map especially for it. Citadel looks too open in some areas, and cramped in others. Heretic reminds me of Midship, so that's great. lets hope there's so BR starts for some of the new maps.

OuterWorldVoice said:
Those cloud textures look like you could get grenades stuck in them.
Ha, yeah.

I just need someone to make a video checking out Heretic's skybox. It's the aspect of the map I'm most looking forward to, given that I've played Midship countless times back in Halo 2.

As much as I hate half of the things in matchmaking. I don't really blame that on Shishka. There really are people who'd rather play ARs on Standoff then BRs. It's those fucktards who make up the majority of the player base who are to blame. And no one can judge whether their enjoyment is less worthy than anyone else's so Shishka just tries to appeal to the most players possible. Does that mean I have to be happy when I get ARs on Sandbox? No. But blame the players that refuse to have to aim and keep AR starts so often.

What does bother me though is that MM doesn't receive enough substantial updates. I have no way of knowing if that's Shishka being lazy, as is probably far from the truth, but Bungie needs to make sure the resources are there to give MM the attention it deserves. If you look at the monthly updates they really are a joke. And while I think a MM deserves a substantial update at monthly increments, even looking at it over numerous months there is very little change. Almost all of the updates comprise of "fixes" for existing content and only with map pack releases is there ever any content added to spice things up. It's been better recently with Sandbox variants but it's got a long way to go.

I trust whoever is managing such matters at Bungie would've fired him if he wasn't putting the work in, yet what Shishka's been doing leaves a lot to be desired. So back him up with another person dedicated to new content. Give Shishka the means of testing out maps and gametypes outside of waiting for everyone at Bungie to stop what they're doing and play Halo 3.

And another point. While Shishka is able to appeal to "the majority", it's obvious that many gamers completely detest these appeals. If the existing playlists can't deliver to these minorities than it's a failure on Bungie's matchmaking system. If MM fails to maintain a ranked objective playlist for whatever reason (player population, rank spread, party restrictions) then they need to change the fucking system. As long as there are 300 people online looking to play some objective games without AR starts (social skirmish has 100% AR starts) then I should be able to get a game going. I'm actually a big supporter of MM-like systems but any system that can't appeal very far beyond one type of player is a failure in my eyes.

tl;dr

Considering Shishka still has a job at Bungie, I'd say he's doing pretty well. Sure, some things could be better, but I believe he tries to looks at things from all sides and tries to figure out the best way to make everyone happy.

Then again, I am an optimist and try to see the bright side of things.

Heretic's skybox is so epic-looking.

And I can't wait until people find a way to glitch out of it, unless the skull is that sun in that picture, then I can't wait until I can space walk out there.

Just hope the new maps have equal weightings for AR and BR starts in any playlists they're in, and I'll be happy. Also, those videos probably are just using the standard gametypes that came with Halo 3 on the disc. Probably won't be seeing Free For All AR starts on Longshore in Squad Battle or Big Team, or see Team Rockets(as much) on Citadel in Team Slayer/Social Slayer. Didn't Bungie show off most gametypes when they revealed the Heroic, Legendary, Cold Storage, and Mythic 1 packs off, yet we don't see most of those in matchmaking?

oh, and I didn't really want to see a Halo movie, personally. The games are going to be better than the movies anyway, since you can play them, and not just watch them

:D

Picture time... again! :P
This is a moderatly sized one.

There were a lot of mishaps during tonights game, most of them rather entertaining.
A combination of myself playing unbelievably stupid at times and an ongoing betrayal ordeal between the members of our party.

Once again we got up to our ghost antics
episode1-1.jpg

My accidental trip mine that almost vaporized our entire team.
I imagine it would have been quite entertaining for an enemy sniper at keyhole to see the whole team crouching our way out of the base.
episode1-2.jpg

'The flag return fandango of narrows.'
episode2.jpg

...and while the enemy team piled through man cannon time after time, desperate for our flag, the rest of our team ran the flag twice through mid. :P

Just... well... fail.
episode3.jpg

You'd think that if I could speed run the flag out of the enemy's side unscathed I'd at least be able to hold onto that pole while being driven home... but nope, apparently not.

Moar fail!
episode4.jpg

Splattered by his own hog. :D
episode5.jpg

That blue couldn't believe his luck.
episode6.jpg

A final cap to end our feud. :P
