Its not about them jacking up the prices.

30 and 40 series GPU share similar price points

$1500-$1600 3090/4090 4090 charted better
$1200 3080 Ti/4080 4080 charted better
$500-$600 3070/4070 4070 charted better
$400/$400 3060 Ti/4060 Ti I didn't check the data at this point but they are probably close (if launch aligned)
$300/$330 4060/3060 I didn't check the data at this point but they are probably close (if launch aligned)'

If you simply look month by month the 30-series should be higher, since they launched more GPUs earlier. The fact that 40-series charted higher already is a good sign for the 40-series.

Why 3080Ti vs 4080 instead of 3080 vs 4080.
Cuz the 3080Ti launched way way later than the other GPUs and was price pointless cuz it was marginally faster than a 3080 and for a few more dollars you doubled the VRAM with a 3090.

Also:
2020 was the start of the cryptoboom and the true beginning of chip shortages.....so its kinda unfair to compare Ampere to Ada.

Because they are the same price. I compare GPUs on pricing, not names.

Launch aligned every price point of 40-series did around the same or better.
Ohhh
But you compared the 4070 to the 3070 instead of to the 3070Ti so I figured you were following numbering.

I'm comparing only price points. I found no price point where a 30-series card outdid the 40-series.

I just checked the $300-$400 price points

4060 is outdoing 3060 in a shorter amount of time
4060 Ti is also outdoing 3060 Ti in a shorter period of time too

Launch aligned each price point of 40-series GPU is doing better than 30-series.

Im not denying your point.
Just pointing out that you used the 3070 v 4070 when the price point of the 4070 is the price point of the 3070Ti.

Which confused me, as it seemed like you were doing placement comparisons not price, because you had direct pricepoint "rivals" with the 4070 v 3070Ti.

LOL, there's a way of thinking that only Nvidia can support. The 3080ti as the comparison for the 4080. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I tried to best match 40-series with 30-series upon initial releases.

$800 4070 Ti can be compared with $700 3080 too, but there isn't enough data, those appear to have similar %, launch aligned.

Including 3070 Ti wouldn't be fair as that was a minor refresh.

They are the same price. Comparing names is useless.

Before I corrected you, you were thinking 30-series was somehow doing better without taking into account that more 30-series cards launched earlier, and 30-series hit the lower price points faster...
