Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Pixels film features Donkey Kong(!), Pac-Man, and more

2+2=5

The Amiga Brotherhood
Sony Pictures Entertainment’s upcoming film “Pixels” will feature classic video game characters such as Donkey Kong and Pac-Man, the company announced today. The movie, which stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, and Brian Cox, is slated for May 15, 2015.

For those who haven’t heard of Pixels previously, below is a quick overview of the film:

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Monaghan plays the team’s unique weapons specialist.

And here’s the listing of companies with classic arcade games that are teaming with Sony Pictures on Pixels:

• Atari Interactive: (Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede and Missile Command)
• Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Frogger)
• BANDAI NAMCO Games Inc. (PAC-MAN, Galaga, and Dig Dug)
• Nintendo (Donkey Kong)
• Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (Q*bert)
• Taito Corporation (Space Invaders)
• Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (Joust, Defender, Robotron and Wizard of Wor)

Those attending San Diego Comic-Con 2014 this week will have the opportunity to engage with many of these classic original arcade games and try them out again as the studio features a Pixels Electric Dreams Factory arcade at the Hard Rock Hotel, 209 5th Ave., San Diego.

Wow, the summary sounds a bit like the reverse scenario of that youtube video where arcade characters fight against modern video game characters.

Adam Sandler is a big fat NEGATIVE in my book, but that's balanced out by Peter Dinklage. Let's see how this flick turns out :D

you speak so well
I have almost no faith that this will be any good (Adam Sandler and Kevin James? No thanks) but hey, maybe it'll surprise me.

It's kind of a remake of / based on a French (IIRC) film from a few years ago with the same name. I can't youtube from here but it should be easy to find.

I'm pretty sure after it went viral Sandlers production company bought the rights for a feature from him. Not sure how involved he is in the film.

is this live-action or an animation like Wreck-it-Ralph?

Adam Sandler is the only thing that sours it for me, hopefully it will be one of his brighter ones.

I wonder if this will displace Grandma's Boy as the most embarrassing portrayal of gaming to the masses.

Coincidentally that was also a Happy Madison production.

From the producers of Grandma's Boy.

Sandler is coming off his biggest box office miss in years and Sony decide to stick him in his most expensive film yet.

What could possibly go wrong?

Sounds decent

Or it can actually be good

Don't fall into their trap. Licensed IPs is not a sign of quality or that any associate with this production knows what they are talking about.

This will not be in the same class as the LEGO Movie. It's all but guaranteed.

After Dinklage in Knights of Badassdom and Sandler in the past decade I don't have much hope but I'll wait til I see a trailer. DK is an interesting choice given the premise.

Knows the Score
Oh yeah, can't remember who said it but someone elsewhere pointed out that Dinklage is basically playing Billy Mitchell.

Is this live action or CGI? Could maybe tolerate Sandler if it were CGI. He didn't ruin Hotel Transylvania, although the film was mediocre regardless of his presence.

Reading the plot I could only help but think of Anthology of Interest so:
"Tremble in fear at our three different kinds of ships"
"Increase speed, drop down and reverse direction"

This will be live action so you can enjoy the protagonist, who is in his late forties, to the fullest.

Will check it out (depending on how trailers will be like)

Could be Sony's "answer" to Disney's Wreck-It Ralph. lol

Sounds interesting enough to watch on Netflix but not in theaters. Adam Sandler is really a big risk. His last few movies have been really sub par although I really want to like him... Hope he performs well.

at last, for christ's sake
I'm with you guys on the Adam Sandler thing but the film IS being directed by Chris Columbus, so it has a chance?

of being bad? sure. Columbus is just the icing

but it has Brian Cox. But on the other hand, it also has Kevin James. So basically lol no, for me

Great news! I love watching a talentless forty-something male enact fart jokes and general puerile humour like a 12 year old, all the while getting paid tens of millions. I'll definitely remember to not watch this.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Billy Madison:

Mortal Kombat is a good game but I think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.

Adam Sandler voicing Donkey Kong confirmed.
