Sony is our enemy now?

The man truly is an unstoppable force.

Both Playstation and Xbox should dump physical next gen, this in turn should make digital games cheaper or at least have decent summer deals and also make online free, it's a piss take in 2026 especially the price £60 for what free games each month which are shit just make it free, Playstation copy Microsoft, Xbox have already started cutting management I hope DEI management team is included, give developers near free reign on games but fire the woke obsessed ones, the first thing game developers should discuss making a game Is how much fun can we make it, not how can we include diversity.

Totally delusional.

They would not make the games cheaper, More expensive, Look at those greedy bastards Nintendo. Zelda BOTW on switch was a remake they charged $60 for like 6 straight years without a discount. Recent Sony is even greedier. Prepare for $80 digital games with minimal discounts for years.

I wondered the same thing, but I bet Sony is the one who prints Xbox blu-ray discs. IDK how that might complicate matters here as I'd expect that entire operation to wind down. I bet there's a timeline internally for when they plan to stamp their last blu-ray anything already on the calendar.
This is a content-production decision, Blu-ray Discs for XBOX and movies etc will still exist, as long as no similar decision is made by someone else.

And then we bought everything digital.
My PS5's disc drive works 2-3 a year max
Everything? Take it you aren't watching DF's video on this issue, where the content that matters was still 55% in favour of physical even with rat in the maze leading the consumer to digital only by PlayStation?

Your argument is disingenuous by physical releases that aren't inherently GaaS or Always-online

I mean, with this whole negative response to their recent announcements with digital-only future, well, is that it?

Are we at the point where, just like when someone mentions an Xbox, and / or anything, or anyone related to it, there will be reactions with countless laughing emojis?

My ps5 has been digital since '21, with a 4 tb hard drive installed. When I moved into my apartment, it wasn't very big and I didn't want all that clutter. And honestly of the ps6 doesn't cost over $1000, ill get that too.

Does, or hell CAN, anyone else even print blu-rays? I recall in the throws of the HDM war, a lot was made over the cost of producing them vs a DVD or even HD-DVD. Time could have blunted that for sure, but idk if who the players even are in the replication side of that business.

There's a break-even volume required to keep those machines running. It's not a public service. Taking games out of that equation, which made up for more than half the blu-rays printed, means we might see movies follow very closely behind.

I'm trying to buy a back up disc drive for my ps5 and finding them sold out everywhere. I'm gonna have to go drive around searching I suppose, I see some in-store pick up possibilities a long ways away. It's like they purposely limited the supply of disc drives to force more people into digital. Maybe its better to forget about it and buy $80 of switch1 games instead, final fantasy resonance is full on the cart... probably runs like shit though.

Sony is one of many global manufacturers. Tried to Google Xbox discs and Technicolor and Sonopress seems to be big ones for Xbox games currently, CMC is the largest global optical disc manufacturer. Sony is also printing Xbox discs though. And others. AI says that nothing is falling through Sony's decision, except PlayStation discs.

If PlayStation discs made up 50% total percent of all blu-ray discs being made today as Sony claimed, if nothing else this greatly increases the cost by cutting your economy of scale in half. Imagine the impact on the translucent blu plastic case industry? Devastated this week. Wiped out.
