Sony Is Lying to You

Arsic

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
So recently I played the Echoes of Eincrad demo. Found it mid at best but have a buddy who is obsessed with SAO.

I look to see at the game store of the editions that it straight says he has pre ordered the game.

Now I know for a fact he wouldn't after how bad the demo was so I sent him the screenshot asking him if he did. He was like fuck no, and even shot me a screenshot proving it.

This feels like false advertisement by Sony and fake fucking data to try to get people to consider or buy shit they normally wouldn't. "Oh hey 20 people I know own and play this new MP game? Cool I should pick it up!" Only to find out no one fucking owns it from your buddy list cuz Sony is falsifying this shit.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Surprised Nicolas Cage GIF

If I download a demo on Switch it appears in my games played list. Perhaps Sony does the same thing on PlayStation. I know it lets me know which of my friends have played it.

This isn't played or owned. This is in store saying "this friend pre ordered" which is pretty specific.

The theory is what you dont know wont hurt you..... and that is called the truth.

It's like when my buddy worked at a dating site and if you signed up a profile on one of their sites, what you didnt know is they would share your profile on their other sister sites. You think youre only on one site but your profile shows up on three sites. You'd never know the truth unless you knew someone who saw you on numerous sites and asked you if it's true. And it's not like youre going to search for a profile of yourself on another site. Even if someone you knew saw you on three different sites they'd never bring it up to you anyway, so you'd never know it's all BS.

Sonys backend for their store is pretty terrible so I wouldnt be surprised if this was just 1 of a million hiccups.

I remember the days where the search function basically didnt search unless you were 100% accurate with spelling

I've pointed this out a couple of times here on GAF. Search is horrible on PS. That's basic functionality 20+ years ago that they still can't get right today

Curious what's so bad with PS search?

Is it one of those archaic systems where if you got a spelling mistake it results in no results found? lol. My streaming box is like that. One name or channel typo and it's not smart enough to just find the results that are spelt the closest.

Long time ago, Indigo Books site was like that. I was amazed how Amazon you could be a shit speller and it'd still get you results you probably want. But Indigo was one of those exact spelling kind of search algorithms.

I say w/e sony or other pub is doing, in todays world we got yt vids/streamers/independend reviewers so any1 with 2 clicks can dig deep and check how the game plays/looks, so no more excuses like back in the 90s or early 2000s, back then indeed demo discs were huge help and big source of very useful info :)

Yep. My brother and I share the same PS5. Playstation Store sometimes keep telling my brother pre-order a game he never did.

Just a dirty move from Sony part.

Here's an example. Few weeks ago I was looking to see how much W40k Inquisitor was on PSN during a sale.

My search on playstation.com returned nothing. Same today...

So I have to use google instead, same exact search phrase. I've used several variations on playstation and same result. Not spelling. Just incompetence on Sony's part

It's likely that he just checked the demo. Did you ask him if he played the demo? Same with BO6 free weekends, 2 hour trials, PS+ etc. On the backend it's very baffling because some games it counts as a purchase and some it doesn't. No idea why but it's not very consistent. Sometimes I even get an email confirming a purchase for £0.00 and others I get nothing. 🤷‍♂️
