Great investment choice by Sony. Epic is rapidly expanding into film and TV production pipeline too.
Surely far less benefits than a majority owner.I think it can be worrisome when a first party buys a stake in a third party engine because you're not exactly sure what benefits they will get out of it as a minority owner.
No I can't tell you with a straight face that Sweeny went on twitter to pr speak stuff he doesn't actually believe, for a company who'm doesn't care what he says on twitter, and fight some twitter battles on behalf of said company, just because of an investment
Yeah, i'd really struggle saying that with a straight face
He laid many praises about Tencent as well when they bought nearly half the company. How they were a great company. Suuuure they are Tim.
The guy talked shit about the MS store on PC for years. Only for him to step in and do the same thing (if not worse) with the Epic store.
The guy praises Sony (PS5) and literally says "There is no deal between us". And later we find out that there IS indeed a deal and that it's worth $250M in his favor.
Tim Sweeney is a hypocrite and a liar and has a history of influenced opinions when it betters him and his company. His opinions have ZERO credibility. It's pretty darn obvious at this point.
They are going to make the investment now, back then wasn't made.He said there was no marketing deal. An investment isn't a marketing deal

He clearly didn't say "Marketing deal". Come on now.
The guy who he responded too
Tim Sweeney clearly said "Secret deal" which encompasses everything.
Regardless, an actual investment is even more profound as Sony is partly his boss now. His opinion of Sony/PS5 carries no more weight than any other biased Sony employee.
And you REALLY believe they weren't in talks about this "investment" at the time of the demo?
Jesus christ
He responded to someone claiming they have a marketing deal, stating they have no such "secret deal". Sony buying into their stock doesn't change that.
Do I need to teach you how to put 1 and 1 together?
I know you guys don't like to understand context, but its a vital skill to have in life
Edit - Also lmao no. Owning 1.4% of their shares does not make them his boss. That's absolutely nonsense
Did you read the part where he said
"serious investment discussions followed from the demo"
That right there is proof positive that there were in fact "investment discussions" before the demo. Just that they got "serious" after the demo. He's clearly choosing his words carefully. You believe what you want to believe tho.
Yes don't worry I can read fine unlike yourself
They were interested in the Demo. Not what Tim says on twitter. There was no marketing deal that had him praise Sony.
You keep cherry picking the term "marketing deal". Your arguing semantics.
There was a deal.
It was discussed before the demo.
It got serious after the demo.
His opinions were obviously influenced because why wouldn't he praise his partner and investor? If don't like that observation that's too bad. I'm not the only one who can see thru this.
... and still after the bulk of the work on UE5 was well underway, but this proxy war against anyone that speaks well about PS5 must not care for things like that.
If we want to apply the same metric people are trying to apply here, financial deal == he lied and exaggerated to make PS5 look good, then we need to take any statement by any company/individual either MS or Sony has a financial bond with (that removes all PR documents, all first party developers, all DF interviews [given by company employees]) and also take published specs as completely theoretical peaks with unknown bottlenecks in sight.
Not that crazy and leaves the forum with little to talk about until well after both of the consoles launch.
(hello non standard 12 priority levels for data requests)
It depends, if who I am talking to deserves the effort I can write very well. But if that person is lazy with his thoughts I like to be lazy in my grammatics, but don't worry I always make sure what I said makes sense.do you even grammatics, bro?
I only have $120million on hands .Im down to blow some smoke up someone’s ass for $250 million. Anybody want to deal?
It's amazing anyone actually believes this nonsense that dicksucking actually influences these businesses to invest
To use your language, "dicksucking" will absolutely get you nowhere. But perhaps $250M can.
It's more amazing that you deem it implausible that Tim Sweeneys praise had absolutely nothing to do with the deal they were working on. Of course it was. You're not convincing me otherwise.
Thst doesn't even make sense? Now Tim's paying the $250M?
And i'll ask you like i've asked everyone else. In what world do billionaires go on twitter praising corporations with the assumption that it will lead to monetary gain? Its nonsense
In this world buddy.
Tim Sweeney doesn't do or say anything that's not for the betterment of himself or his company. It's called a partnership and companies and corporations praise their partners all the time. In what world have you been living on?
yes, of course...more pc games exclusive to egs including bloodborne.Wow!!!!
I don't how this plays out. I know there's absolutely no way Fortnite becomes console exclusive obviously, or anything like that. But something will come from this.
I suppose anything is possible. But wouldn't that theory make more sense if Epic paid Sony instead of vice versa?yes, of course...more pc games exclusive to egs including bloodborne.
Wasn't his criticism of the Microsoft (Windows) store relating to the fear of them creating a closed ecosystem with the Universal Windows Platform apps? I think many were worried about that, it's the same reason Valve created Stream Machines and started investing in Linux. It looks like MS have eased off from that vision though. He laid many praises about Tencent as well when they bought nearly half the company. How they were a great company. Suuuure they are Tim.

Sony has been doing timed exclusives and no one complained.I'm still not sure what people's beef is with the Epic Games Store, I guess it's something to do with paying for timed exclusives? But if you don't like it, stunt use it. It's business.
Of course it's all business, but stuff like this can only be good for us gamers. The Epic Games approach to publishing fundamentally changes the developer/publisher model, and aims to have the most developer-friendly terms in the industry, so that creators can focus on making great games.
- Full creative freedom and ownership. Developers retain 100% of all intellectual property and full creative control of their work.
- Fully-funded projects. Epic Games Publishing will cover up to 100% of development costs, from developer salaries to go-to-market expenses such as QA, localization, marketing, and all publishing costs.
- 50/50 profit sharing. Developers earn a fair share for their work -- once costs are recouped, developers earn at least 50% of all profits.
The money part wasn't public.Yes. He was clearly implying that the deal is not a secret, but public. But people interpreted it as if there was no deal at all, which was clearly not the case for anyone that was using at least 1% of one of their 100 billion brain cells.
He's good with wordplay to make people think he means something else while still getting the true message across.
Just to make it clearer....
There's not some secret deal. 100% of the stuff we've been working on with Sony over the past months is now publicly announced
He never said there is no deal.
Tim Sweeney clearly said "Secret deal" which encompasses everything.

The money is rarely public. If it was always public, people would see a lot easier through the PR talk. The money part wasn't public.
Goes to show the deal has been ongoing for a lot longer than 2 months, except the financials weren't disclosed.
Sony has been doing timed exclusives and no one complained.
I have zero hate towards the Epic Store, I got about 30 free games from them, it still hasn't replaced my steam preference, but I see no reason to hate them.
They are trying their best to improve, also this was very nice of them toward developers

Competition is always good for gamers, monopolies are the worst for consumers. There's nothing good about exclusivity for gamers. Especially when it divides a single platform. If someone wants to buy all their games on Epic, or install and use 500 million launchers, that's fine with me, but it should all be a customer option.
Most of the complaints I've seen revolve around convenience of having everything within Steam. Many people don't seem to care about the benefits of competition and the disadvantages of a monopoly. Even in SVOD, people are mad that major content distribution companies adapted to streaming to the Internet and are launching their own streaming services instead of being all available on Netflix because they are upset about the slight convenience of managing another subscription or switching apps. These people would probably rather see shopify and wal-mart go out of business so that they could have a one stop shop for everything at Amazon for convenience.Sony has been doing timed exclusives and no one complained.
