Sony about to ban plat junkie shovelware on PSN

An anonymous source has sent us the following information that was included in the dev letter. In the letter, Sony Playstation states:

“SIE strives to ensure that customers can search and discover the full breadth of experiences on PlayStation, and that partners have a fair means of being discovered. When partners oversaturate or “spam” PlayStation™Store with many variants of the same type of content, it can negatively impact both the customer and partner experience.

Partner Requirements & AllowancesWhen SIE reviews the content submitted to PlayStation™Store, products that have the following characteristics are identified as “spam” or “repetitive” content:

Products whose functionality and/or assets are copied or are not meaningfully different from products already published on PlayStation™Store, irrespective of the publisher of record.

Multiple concepts and product variants, published by individual partners, that have duplicative functionality or experiences, differentiated only by minor variances of functionality or assets.

o Where possible, partners should consider aggregating small, similar content experiences into a single product, using in-game commerce to expand or extend the experience.

o As an example, supplying different trophies for each product is not enough to differentiate content.”

If any of the devs break these things mentioned above, Sony Playstation has said the following in that letter about the actions in place:

Content or partners found to have breached policy may be subject to the following enforcement actions:

  • Content Excluded from PlayStation™Store Merchandising
  • Discoverability on PlayStation™Store is restricted.
  • Content does not feature in automatic merchandising placements, such as the “New Releases” strand.
  • Content Delisted from PlayStation™Store
  • Content is not searchable and can only be accessed via direct link on web and mobile stores.
  • Impact on CertOps Process
  • Content is not permitted to proceed to publication until policy violations are rectified.
  • Review slot availability is affected.
  • Content Takedown
  • Content is removed from PlayStation™Store until policy violations are rectified.
  • PlayStation®Partners Account Suspension or Termination
  • Multiple rejections or takedowns may result in the suspension or eventual termination of a partner’s PlayStation Partners account.
  • Suspension limits the ability to submit and publish new content. Existing published content can remain on PlayStation™Store, if that content complies with SIE policies.
  • Termination of an account results in the removal of all content from PlayStation™Store.

Good
Sick and tired of seeing stupid games like Jumping burrito story.
Like wtf
Ngl my best friend and I were laughing our asses off the other night where we just started scrolling though new releases and went down that trophy farming rabbit hole. Couldn’t believe that shit. One of the publishers is Trophy Hunting LTD or something close, straight up comedy.

So wait on one hand MS dominating an industry will lead to fewer choices as a gamer and on the other Sony is now going to reduce choices for the gamer.

Jocularity aside it is annoying to scroll through the PSN store. On one hand I don't like fewer options, on the other I personally don't like the boosting. But at the same time it doesn't matter at all with the sole exception of perhaps gaming the new rewards program. Yet MS leaves those cheap-o cheevo hunter games, though those clicker types seem more prevalent on PS like the Mayo games. The only real offensive content on the store are those Lady in a Leotard asset flips or whatever, no seal of quality whatsoever.

Sony don't want folks getting easy trophies since they have that new rewards program out sounds like, but I didn't read the link in OP, so... yeah.

Ok I guess I understand, but aren’t they technically selling more games and making money due to trophy or platinum hunters? 🏆 I thought Sony had to approve all games before hitting PSN? Is that not the case here?

I hope this is true, it’s funny that they finally just decide to do it when they realize it affects their PlayStation Stars program though. They don’t give a fuck that it’s hard to find decent games amongst the garbage.

Noooooo, what im gonna do with my life without Jumping Burrito, Jumping Sushi, Jumping Taco, Jumping (insert food here) and all the turbo versions that let u get a plat trophy in 2 minutes?

About time, this trash got banned. Was ppluting the new game section even if they improved that section by making revelant games appeart 1st and all the trophy bait trash down the list. Still some indie games from actual game devs might get obscured cuz all this trash gets in the way of visibility.

Never seen any of these crap games on the PSN store unless I'm actively searching for them. On E-shop on the other hand it's crawling like cockroaches out on a sunny day. I hope Nintendo does something about it too, although I'm not holding my breath.

I'm going to bet they implement this policy and not a thing changes from our pov lol.

Actually, same here. I don't even see that much trash on steam. Gets pushed down for me. But swtich, god damn. The way things are often unsorted completely means you are scrolling past a bunch of trash.

Actually on steam I get served a lot of the more fucked up (by my standards, no judgement) adult visual novels because if it looks weird enough I cannot help myself and have to click on it.

Good, I'm fine with these games being on the store, but do not allow them to show in the most popular/recent releases tabs. I know this makes them harder to find, but it makes your storefront and your store look like crap when 15 out of 20 games being shown on recent are Jumping bean and shit like that.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
I can’t believe people care enough about this shit to buy plat but not care enough when people see what games they are from and see you are a fraud.

When asked if Nintendo will do the same to shovelware on eShop, Nintendo said: But most of our profit comes from shovelware!

Jk

I thought Sony knew and just milking dumb trophy hunters. I guess its not meaningful income.
No doubt. They just rode it out as long as possible till the well dried up.

I remember old threads about these kinds of games and people would bring up something like "Sony cant stop them if they want to publish the game to PSN". That's absolute BS. Just because a studio has a dev kit doesn't mean they can upload anything they want.

I'm pretty sure if a dev decided to upload a porno it wouldnt make it.

Sony did this to themselves when they put Trophies into that retarded tech demo with the huge dogs in the clouds and other stupid shit. They opened the door.

Anyone "farming plats" is truly pathetic, if your friends care about that dumb shit you need new people to be around. If you're getting them by these instant plat game then you're even more pathetic.

The e-pen thing is over and done, nobody really gives a fuck anymore.

I find the whole Achievement Pts and Trophy system retarded. I just play the games and if by luck I get some points here or there so be it. I even turn off notifications because it's a hassle to be playing and seeing a pop up saying I got 15 pts for a dumbass task I completed by luck. I remember purposely going pts when I was new to Xbox and in NHL 07 or 08 I think if you create a goalie you get 40 pts or something. I did it. Felt stupid. Never again did I bother gunning for fast points ever again.

What's even worse is that the early days of Xbox 360 games the achievements were very basic. Some games literally had 10 tasks to do and if you beat the game you probably got most of them by default. Games now have really nitty gritty tasks or time sink lists. They really want you to keep playing the game hoping you buy some mtx to boot.

I only give a shit about Xbox Achievements when I need to get them for my weekly MS Reward points that I can cash out for in the MS Store, that's about it.

I'm a fairly new Steam user and was shocked when I saw the amount of porn games on display. Sony and Nintendo are very curated so that kinda stuff never gets released. Crossed the AO tab so I didn't have to see it. I'm not interested in those kinda games anyway. Sony and Nintendo should have a similar option for shovel ware. Kinda like the ignore option we have here on GAF for obnoxious users.

A. I'm mad because I won't be able to show off my gamer score to my imaginary friends anymore

B. Good, only true gamers like myself will have the trophies we earned the hard way

which one are you?

B but I've figured out a way to make it so that these exist but have no meaning. Have a trophy score that's based on rarity of your trophies. People who buy this junk will no doubt have the easy trophies but they won't be rare because everyone buying them does so to get the easy trophies.
