Sharp announced they are supplying LCD screens to an upcoming gaming console

LCD so that's probably Nintendo so they can resell the same outdated console a few years afterwards with an OLED screen.
JFC, another one.

People have posted in this very thread why LCD might be a better choice than OLED.

People like you just grasp into terms and demand everything have it, ignoring issues, in this case, like burn-in, colour accuracy, brightness, and response time, among others.

That means the next-gen Switch will go back to an LCD display? Come on Nintendo, I want to early adopt your system, but gives us OLED at launch please.

Nope, it's either Nintendo (hopefully not lol since I don't want to downgrade from OLED screen to LCD) or that remote play portable console coming from Sony.

Lcd in 2023 when vita had an oled in 2012. Just goes to show how far the standards have fallen.

Not buying anything with a LCD screen in 2023/2024.

OLED or bust nintendo.
Uhm... And people in this thread want an OLED. So..

Seems you're doing what you're claiming

People have quite literally spelt out why:

a) something other than OLED might be a better choice
b) that just because a display assembly uses LCD, doesn't mean it can't also use OLED

Sorry, but yes, you are the ignorant one.

And lots of people are being stupid on this thread, in which we don't even know if this is for a Nintendo console.

The fact they went to the trouble of deleting it from (ie literally removing and republishing) their earnings presentation suggests it probably is the Switch (or something similarly secretive). If it was just some relatively non-exciting device (like any number of the handheld gaming PC things) they'd just leave it as is.
Yeah, a big firm called them and said 'what the fuck are you doing'. That means whatever it's for is still a secret, and whoever is making it is big enough to throw some weight around.

Steam wouldn't give a shit, and it's not a new entry into the PC handheld market because they wouldnt make them take it down. Nintendo would be the one with most to lose by this info coming out - they don't want to cannibalize sales of the current switch by having everyone know a new one is coming.

Quantum Dot with miniLEDs are really impressive, and can be brighter than OLED. Add to this that they are also cheaper…perhaps this is where they are going with their next system.

M for Mobile or P for Portable would work well…

But we’re probably 3 years away from AMD creating a chipset for portable devices that can match the Series S performance at 1080p without dying in 30 mins

What’s people’s reasoning for saying it could be a Sony portable? Like Sony make some of the best screen technology, why wouldn’t they use their own tech?

The latest Steam Deck promo just dropped and it's showing God of War in the demo reel. I think this is the best argument yet against this being PlayStation related. Sony wouldn't be allowing God of War to be showcased on a competitors device like this.

Unless of course Sony's next handheld is powered by SteamOS. Now THAT would be interesting...

Small handheld screens require the right environment when you don’t have a regular TV, it’s cool to take the switch on the go but it’s not a selling feature people are looking for like they think.
