So are they only supposed to get support for games yet released? The 3rd party support is mostly games already made. It's not like they are doing a lot here.
GTA6 PC port means nothing confirmed...The 3rd party support is mostly games already made. It's not like they are doing a lot here.
A lot (I know cause I bought a lot of them). By memory (so very selective):But even ignoring day-and-date, how many "impossible ports" (PS4-gen only AAA games) did the Switch get? Less than 10?
I own more of these than I care to admit lmaoA lot (I know cause I bought a lot of them). By memory (so very selective):
- Wolfenstein II
- Doom 2016
- Wolfenstein Youngblood
- Doom Eternal
- The Witcher 3
- The Outer Worlds
- No Man's Sky
- Spyro remake trilogy
- Crash remake trilogy
- Crash 4
- CTR
- Tony Hawk 1+2
- Tony Hawk 3+4
- It Takes Two
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Mortal Kombat 1 (this one was even more impossible as it was a current-gen only game)
- LEGO Skywalker Saga
- Ark Survivor Evolved
- Sniper Elite 4
- Batman Arkham Knight
- Ace Combat 7
- Nier: Automata
- Hellblade
- Bright Memory (also only PS5/Series S/X game so even more impossible)
Oh yes I totally didDon't forget Kingdom Come Deliverance too.
Still though, it feels like Switch 2 already has more than this released/announced even after just a year, and they're much less compromised this time around as well.
I said that right when they started showcasing games for Switch 2. It's too under-powered, it's like developing for the Xbox Series S all over again. No one has time for that.
Agree, but now Switch 2 ports are selling better than Xbox series ports, especially in Japan and some countries in Europe. You're so wrong. The existence of XSS is a gift for Nintendo. Since devs developing for XSX are obliged to develop for XSS too, they have an almost ready-made Switch 2 ports on their hands. So it's exactly opposite to what you're saying.
No time for XSS, sure, XSS and XSX both are nowhere in the world super important, in Murica a bit maybe, but Switch 2 sells well. If you want to sell in Japan it is the go to device. So not porting loses you practically the entire Japanese market, whereas not porting to XSS and thus XSX does not lose you an entire region, just the few diehard Xbox only unicorns.I said that right when they started showcasing games for Switch 2. It's too under-powered, it's like developing for the Xbox Series S all over again. No one has time for that.
What logic. Just pointing out what they're getting. It's not like it's a big commitment from 3rd parties. So are they only supposed to get support for games yet released?
I don't understand this logic. There's an entire generation of gamers that have never played games like Kingdom Hearts or gamers that didn't own a PS5 and never got to play Lies of P or Stellar Blade.
Should Switch owners be prohibited from ever playing a game that has already released?
It's hilarious to think about how XBOX self sabotaged this generation:Agree, but now Switch 2 ports are selling better than Xbox series ports, especially in Japan and some countries in Europe.
XSS will die soon though. Leaving Switch 2 users with obsolete hardware once again, pretty early on, once again. From there, you will get 10 years on obsolete hardware with low resolutions and fps, once again. You're so wrong. The existence of XSS is a gift for Nintendo. Source? This is a pretty flimsy limb you're standing on to make such a bold statement.XSS will die soon though.

Which is already listed...Also Hellblade

Given that current games take like 7 years to develop and that no developer programs for harware that won't exist for 7 years, I don't think it's going to be a dramatic shift, specially given how well Swich games sell.. From there, you will get 10 years on obsolete hardware with low resolutions and fps, once again.
Damn I'm blindWhich is already listed...
I tried to buy one several weeks ago, I saw it listed at 400€, I didn't see the pointXbox Series S is doing relatively good numbers.
You can pick up the console for £298 in the UK. Wait until GTA VI drops. Most causal gamers will pick the series S over the Series X or PS5 because it's so much cheaper.
My PS5 died and I'm tempted to buy another Series S (son uses the current one) and save over £200.
The 3rd party support is mostly games already made. It's not like they are doing a lot here.
I kinda regret not getting one when it was 222€. That price was insane, and is almost unbelievable today just a few months later.Xbox Series S is doing relatively good numbers.

Capcom is doing a lot but most of them are playing catch up due to receiving dev kits late. Still it's support. The 3rd party support is mostly games already made. It's not like they are doing a lot here.
LolIf Microsoft were smart
indies still don't count??I activate my face down card: plans change.
Yep, now I'm a insider.
People are too hard on you OP. This prediction was spot on!I can't wait to play Resident Evil 9 and Onimusha on Switch 2. Those are coming, right?
Not sure that's true. In the last week we saw quite a few new releases get announced/shown for Switch 2.The 3rd party support is mostly games already made. It's not like they are doing a lot here.

Here's how I would currently rank the major publishers for Switch 2, anyone agree/disagree?
A - Square Enix, Koei Tecmo, Capcom
B - Sega, Ubisoft, Activision
C - Bethesda, Konami
D - EA, Take Two, Namco Bandai, Microsoft
E - Atlus

thinking about getting metaphor for s2 seems like a good game for portable

Yea, and what's the problem? You make it sound like them getting 3rd party support in the form of ports is a problem somehow...but ok, you're just pointing it out...What logic. Just pointing out what they're getting. It's not like it's a big commitment from 3rd parties.
Pretty much the same but Bethesda at B, and Sega at C or even D, they're the only japanese 3rd party publisher to skip new releases for Switch. Late P3 Reload port, late Metaphor port, P4 remake and P6 not even announced on the console so probably late ports as well, took them years to put Yakuza on it. And it took them months to put a Switch 2 version of Sonic Crossworlds.
So, so far only one day and date release, which is Kiwami 3.
EA did a better job supporting the console than Sega.
The only way it can realistically die is if developers stop releasing Series X versions of games. And if Xbox isn't abandoned by publishers, then we would expect to see support well into the next generation, given the expected reliance on cross-platform play.XSS will die soon though. Leaving Switch 2 users with obsolete hardware once again, pretty early on, once again. From there, you will get 10 years on obsolete hardware with low resolutions and fps, once again.
My apologies if I misinterpreted your intent. There definitely were some other questionable misses during this not-E3. Besides Hitman and Persona, Ace Combat was probably the biggest question mark. But Namco's support for Nintendo has always been questionable.I'm not doing list battles though. Somebody made it out like hitman is all that's missing for third party publisher support. I just said that's not really true and that third party publisher support is still fairly anaemic on it. That's not warring just because you disagree.
By my count, there were 9 "major" third party games announced for the Switch 2 this not-E3 that are not yet released: Veronica, Onimusha, FF7-3, KH4, Wo Long 2, Tomb Raider, Rayman, Alien, Lords of the Fallen 2. We can quibble on if that is "a lot" or not, but the reality is that throughout the entire Switch's life that number would be 0-2. And Nintendo is infamously secretive and limited in who they gave devkits to before launch. The trend is positive. Will it be "only" 9 games next year? Who knows? The 3rd party support is mostly games already made. It's not like they are doing a lot here.
Some of those I discounted as not being AAA (like the Activision PS1 remakes), but that is a bigger list than I thought. I think there are some online games that might also apply like Apex Legends. So ok, maybe Switch 2 hasn't quite reached it yet. But it's definitely getting there. (And I bought Spyro and Nier, as well as played Witcher via Gamefly. Still need to get AC7 though)A lot (I know cause I bought a lot of them). By memory (so very selective):

Ill be bluntly honest, I dont anticipate the PS6 handheld being any more powerful than a Series S. If that's the case, expect the Switch 2 to have much longer legs than anticipated.XSS will die soon though. Leaving Switch 2 users with obsolete hardware once again, pretty early on, once again. From there, you will get 10 years on obsolete hardware with low resolutions and fps, once again.
I'm honestly curious how many of the games mentioned in this thread have since been announced for (or even released on) Switch 2.
These companies have all the time in the world to make money on the top platform.I said that right when they started showcasing games for Switch 2. It's too under-powered, it's like developing for the Xbox Series S all over again. No one has time for that.
