Rio Olympic Village deemed "uninhabitable" by Australian delegation

This is getting silly.

Just because Rio fucked up doesn't mean the Olympics cannot be pulled off well.

2000
2002
2006
2008
2010
2012

All went off without any major failures.

Sydney
Salt Lake
Turin
Beijing
Vancouver
London

All first world, developed countries, save for China who just spent a boatload of money. Olympic games and FIFA World Cups should not be held in a country that does not currently have a good portion of the infrastructure in place. Problem with hosting it is that most places end up costing taxpayer money (I think of that list only London and maybe Salt Lake were profitable?). Another problem is that most stadiums and things built or rebuilt for the games are then left to rot.

LA already has the infrastructure, though.

Yeah, the metro system there is certainly suitable for a metro area of 14 million people + another 10-15M people who are going to come to visit.

Sochi was less everything is a death trap and more a case of laughing at just how badly constructed stuff was like installing 2 toilets in a single person bathroom. stairs leading to a wall while the door is to the left of the stairs etc

Salt Lake was indeed very profitable.

In fact they were going to bid for the Olympics again recently, but unfortunately the USOC wouldn't bid for the games because they want to hold out and try to win the summer games.

Can they wheel in some camping poratble toilet and power generators?

I am serious. I figure it's too late to book the hotels by now.

Also some bugs spray to kill the zika-quitos

Just like the world cup right? Oh wait.

Although there was a lot of taxpayer money on it, most of the money invested on the Olympics is from the sponsors. Unlike the world cup.

So the Australian committee complain with valid reasons and the Rio's mayor responds in a derogatory way? God, Brazil sounds like a nice place right, you complain and they insult you back if you do...

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Australians give out banter all the time. Now feel what it's like to have the shitpost directed towards YOU.

Eh... Doesn't this happen every time? Conditions seems shit, then the games happen, then everything goes off without a hitch. As the end of if "Oh, that wasn't so bad..."

Not every time. Only when you hold the games in countries that should never have been given them.

Euh, they still got a few weeks. I'd be worried if they saw a wolf in the building...

These games are doomed. Might be a fun watch as long as it doesn't bring upon WW3.

I think people are over reacting.

In terms of support for all sports London is and will be for a long time GOAT. The sell out level for every event is unprecedented.

Doesn't mean Rio will be a disaster. Seems like people are either getting overreacting news, biased news or just want it to fail.

The event will happen with no major hitch.

And London's pre-Olympic headaches were mostly corporate sponsorships gone mad like McDonalds trying to ban other places from selling chips and a group of hired security needing to change into their uniforms under a bridge.

When was the last time somebody died at the Olympics due to accidents or filth?

Sochi. Skeleton racer was going to fast round a corner, flew off and went backwards into a concrete column. They then added padding and reduced the track length.

Vancouver. The track was amazing and world class and every athlete and the sporting association was for it because it was fast and challenging. But an inexperienced Georgian athlete not used to the course couldn't hold control and went flying and smashed into a column. They then advanced the start line and made the track even slower for women who had to start even further ahead.

The Federation for International Luge even stated the track was not at fault but it was user error. They were worried that the speeds were crazy but that the track wasn't unsafe.

Was getting caught part of your plan?

I saw it live when that incident happened. It was not pretty.
