replacing sweets with protein bars ?

This agenda is just ridiculous.
Also, 2 minutes of google research showed me that the iron claim is wrong.
Also, vitamins?

How is it ridiculous? I am well acquanted with the field of chemistry and so I am using my scientific knowledge objectively to battle common misconceptions within food.

Admittedly, Coca-Cola loses the vitamin battle, but it's a good job that literally no diet is composed of exclusively soft drinks, and that multi-vitamins exist.

Ingredients in an American can of Coke: Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Flavors, Caffeine.

Ingredients in an apple: apple

Assuming you are a fellow chemist and this is in fact, a joke.

Replace sweets with almonds, peanuts and hazelnuts instead.
Protein bars are usually 40-50% sugar anyway, sadly. One of the biggest scams, mostly.

"Calorie for Calorie"

*Snip*

I would make the fair assumption from the OP's post that they are trying to lose weight. A calorie deficit is of exclusive importance in this sense, so actually having two apples (190 calories) is actually worse than a can of coke (144 calories) for weight loss.
.

Well, that's one way to look at it.

Numerically, yes we see that two apples amounts to more calories, but part of weight loss is also developing the healthy life style that comes with it and that means finding healthier replacements for the bad things.

And I have a Master's degree in biology, I'm a licensed personal trainer and nutritionist, so what?
I already said, noone is argueing that apples do not contain sugar.

But they are a great substitution for other sweets if you have sweet cravings. And definitely better than Coke.

You can still snack on sweet things, just make sure they're whole food. Stick to fruits and veggies. Cherries are damn good to get right now, so friggin' delicious.

Protein cars are expensive so you might not wanna go that route.

I think it's pretty clear that the dieticians within our society are nowhere near reaching a consensus as to what constitutes 'healthy' and what doesn't. There is so much misninformation within the world of food.

Calories In vs Calories Out, whilst trying to balance Protein/Carbs/Fats in a reasonable proportion is probably the best you can safely do.

Why are you a nutritionist and not a dietician?

lol. Well, I disagree...that consensus was reached years ago. Natural whole foods will always trump processed foods.

And no simplifying to calories in vs calories out is how one acquires deficiencies in minerals and vitamins.

Generally the micronutrients in most fruit are in very small amounts (not enough to be relevant for moderate consumption) and your body's ability to absorb said micros through fruit isn't that great so eating fruit for its micronutrients isn't as useful as old sentiment would have you believe. This is based on recent-ish research.

I'm not 100% on the details and I have to read the research more extensively, but this is my understanding.

I'm no expert, but this line of thinking was why everyone started eating transfats in the 1950s, which we now know is about the worst thing you can possibly eat.

Protein bars, working-out-bars, sportbars etc are designed for that purpose. Not for laying on the couch. That's not working out, brah

Oh yeah, sorry.

When it comes to breakfast/lunch/dinner, I will without fail recommend whole foods. However for base level snacks I consider the difference to be relatively slim ant not worth obsessing over, it's usually helpful for people to keep these things in their diet for a while whilst cutting down, lest they want to be miserable.

Tbh though, even with processed food you'd have to try quite hard to be deficient in vitamins and minerals.

Source?

Not that I don't believe you, but I would love to see how they came about this.

Ah well, when you say it like that I agree - weaning them off slowly definitely helps the diet stick.

To the last bit, I agree, although I think that by itself is worthy of separate discussion.

It's highly processed food designed to be sold for a profit by the same mega companies selling you chips and soda. Marketing them towards health and fitness is brilliant.

Supposedly, it takes more energy to digest a melon than you get out from it, so maybe that's an option.

And lol at some posters trying to put raw fruits in the same camp as soda.

I lost a lot of weight when I switched out fruit for protein bars... which are pretty much candy with protein

Protein bars? I guess they're a little more satiating than typical sugary snack foods. Try fruit like others have said. It's fine to eat because the fiber and nutrients helps your body process the sugar more efficiently. Just don't drink juice since that really is just sugar.

Fruits are the way to go a sweet orange ir some grapes you can carry with you and when you get the urge temptation will be sweet and health win win

I... what? I'm not saying you're lying and something tells there's more to your story than just this detail but... what? Can someone explain this please?

Did you replace 6 apples with one protein bar or what?

Yeah an apple isn't even 100 calories. I mean maybe if it's huge.

It's been stated already but Quest Bars are the way to go. It's almost not fair how easy they make it to get visible abs. Cookies & Cream and Chocolate Mint are my flavors of choice.

Well for protein I went with chicken and egg whites, along with fruit. I didn't use fruit as a protein substitute, I mean

Quest bars, sugar free jello (cups), fruits are good too depending on what kind of nutrition you care about. Whatever works for you and if it is a step in the right direction, and better than the sweets you were eating before, who cares if Option A is superior to Option B?

Neither.

I'd recommend Chicken Breast/Milk/Fish/Seeds.

They'll go further in terms of satiation too.

My fiance replaced sweets with various kinds of fruit - apples, oranges, grapes, pears, plums, etc.. She lost 20 pounds in about 4 months. It was impressive how much it worked.

It's one thing to look at a diet from the outside when you are only considering one ingredient, versus actually experiencing the diet yourself. Fruit works wonders for losing weight.

It's missing amygdalin, a substance that is metabolized into hydrogen cyanide by the body and is lethal.

(found in apple seeds)
