Phil Spencer explains why Japanese games skip Xbox

Not really, the GamePass condition isn't the primary objective of the marketing deal. The objective is an association of the 3rd party game with the PS brand.

These deals predate GamePass, and you can bet your ass MS's marketing deals contain the same stipulations about PSN+ Extra/Premium.

This is the gaming business. If it offends you, you probably need to mature and understand that these gaming platforms are businesses that will do whatever they need to do to protect their business interests and you should expect them to.
Paraphrase it anyway you want, their primary objective to stop big titles from going to game pass because they know it's 70 dollars or free with a service.

If we are being 100% no holding back here, Phil doesn't even need to talk about this because from a console sales perspective he doesn't need them. He only needs to have games and consoles where he needs to with some nice 3rd party partnerships and making gamepass more viable.

The 360 did actually try and they got nothing out of it after the 2nd year on the market. He's acting like there's a much bigger fanbase for those games on Xbox than they are lol

What progress Phil? The Xbox leadership back in the 360 days at least fucking tried to open up to the Japanese market by funding epic JRPGs like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon.

I mean we've gotten Persona, Atlus's new game, Yakuza, Danganronpa, Dragon Quest, and many more franchises that like 10 years ago seemed like they never would be on Xbox. As well as owning a studio in Japan now. Sure there isn't much effort in Japanese exclusives beyond Tango but we're getting a solid chunk of the notable 3rd party games (outside of Final Fantasy which has an exclusivity deal). Nobody's saying they don't have a long way to go, but there has been substantial progress in getting Japanese games onto the Xbox platform

The Japanese companies know if Microsoft want their games day 1 they will have to make a deal, god knows what they pay Sega for those Persona and Yakuza games.
Exactly. If you are a Japanese publisher the ONLY way it makes sense to put your game on Xbox is if you get a gamepass deal.

Otherwise, you spend x amount of years and x amount of dollars to create that Xbox version and it doesn't even crack the weekly 100??

It's because Xbox is made for insane westerners. That's why the only Japanese person to own an Xbox was the "diary of a mad gamer". He was mad and wore a mask to conceal his identity while playing the Xbox. What a crazy dude, who would even do this in such a peaceful country like Japan?

Honestly I don't even know. Billy gates tried to strong arm his way into the console market and legitimately burned out Scalebound but also True fantasy live online and God knows what else. The unfriendly appearance of master chief represents a cold capitalistic unfeeling plastic man who works for burger king selling burger king Xbox 360 games in the city of racism aka America burger land.

The damn system was always so big you had to throw out the family katana just to place it in your abode. The humble Japanese domicile is no place for the beast of the black box. The Xbox is like a black hole of despair like the description of that one kid in the illusion of Gaia manual. Owning one is akin to fan death but in Japan, it's the leading cause of population decline.
