So no more platform barriers but with his conditions make him absolutely coherent with himself?Yep and both Nintendo and Sony said no thanks.

I'm guessing there is an asterisk some people are seeing that the Ori dev isn't when it comes to Microsoft's vision. What Microsoft meant is clearly debatable judging by the different reactions in this thread. Why are you baffled by the hate he is getting? Its pretty clear. He clearly called out MS "Microsoft should 'have the guts' to commit to their vision. " But MS already provides access to their games via Xbox, PC, Mobile and xCloud. More than any other console maker. If he wanted to call someone out, he should have called out Sony and Nintendo for not allowing GamePass/xCloud on their system & for not having their games reaching the same amount of devices as MS.
And its pretty scummy to call out the company that helped them make and market their game and is doing a better job at making their games accessible to a much wider audience.
Again, this developer is a buffoon any way we look at it.
I don't trust any corporate head at face value but the results speak for themselves. Xbox is building a more accessible ecosystem for more gamers to jump in the Xbox brand and now Sony is following suit by releasing thier games on PC too. This is easily the most accessible time gaming has ever been to all gamers, especially now with the rise of cross-play.I don't think anything. I just talk about of Spencer hypocrisy and it's hilarious see so many people say he is coherent with himself when it's not at all and just says what people want to hear by him.
This makes no senseSo no more platform barriers but with his conditions make him absolutely coherent with himself?
They are nice PR words but I'm not sure what have to do with the contradictions of Phil "vision".I don't trust any corporate head at face value but the results speak for themselves. Its in the news cycle this is a forum, get out of your feelings, you could have posted it if u wanted to, did u? I would have figured Ghost of Caelid would post it but alas nothing so why not me?You are "bruh". Posted this like its some big "i gotcha" on Phil. But its a rant by an idiot who's upset because signed a deal and didn't want to keep his end of it.
Already been pointed out. But not the echochamber you wanted lol.
Lmao!!You talk with a person who probably has even his underpants labelled Xbox.
Well, yes. I mentioned this earlier. Microsoft NEEDS their walled garden. A lot of their revenue is tied to $500 console sales, $60 a year XBL subs, 30% cut on microtransactions and ALL digital sales, and of course gamepass. If they go third party, yes, they lose all of that. Which is precisely why they wont ever go third party, but then why are they constantly talking about removing barriers and shit, and wanting to put Gamepass on Nintendo and Playstation. It's like dude it's never going to happen, lets move on.There's limited reach as a 3rd party dev. MS already has nearly twice the revenue of the largest 3rd party publishers. I doubt they are chasing that position. That's a lower position, something you fail down to. Like Sega.
Not that Sega isn't doing great, but I'm sure they'd rather be Sony if they could.
This makes no sense
Say no more platform barriers but just when it's convenient for him, not make the Spencer contradictions excusable. This makes no sense
All this goes back to his comments on whether or not he wouldve kept Bungie today. This guy who just signed a third party publishing deal because MS wouldnt let him own his own IP or release his game on multiple platforms is calling Phil out on those comments. Why are people bringing up Phil and his play everywhere theory into this, I feel like the point he was trying to say was you can play our games on your console, PC & mobile via the cloud and not be stuck on our competitor's one console
What they’re saying: “We’ve learned a lot,” Xbox’s Phil Spencer told Axios when we discussed Bungie’s history with Xbox in late October.
- Asked if the split was inevitable or if Microsoft could have held on to them, he added: “Could we do it today? I think we could.”

If they want to be Sony then they are on the right track. Make exclusives. Make goty contenders. Make great fucking consoles. They have done all that and more. So why bring up Bungie and say they wouldve kept them today? Like really? You would let Bungie take ALL the profit, keep the IP ownership, and sell their game on all platforms while you bankroll them for hundreds of millions of dollars developing and then marketing the game on ALL platforms? Of course not. MS wont gain anything from that relationship. They would definitely not keep them if Bungie wanted to go independent today. It makes ZERO financial sense.
THAT is what this guy is criticizing. Phil just says things to say them. No one, not sony nor MS or Nintendo would ever sign a deal where they let a developer keep the IP and the profits AND make a multiplatform game with simultaneous release like Destiny. Sony either forces timed exclusivity like Deathloop and Godfall, or they force IP ownership like Returnal and Demon Souls when signing contracts with devs. There is a reason why Bungie signed a deal with a chinese company instead of Sony and Microsoft.
Doesn’t surprise me. Not going to waste my time then. His post history doesn't make sense. Yet he'll drop 200 posts in an Xbox thread. Sometimes I wonder if he's purposely not making any sense lol.
The hell is that shit. Talk about the argument not about the quantity of my posts. WTF it has to do with the matter of the thread? I'm talking about Spencer who contradict himself when we talk about this matter and the developer pointed out nothing of new. The religious admiration who some of you have toward Phil opinion it's almost pathological.Doesn’t surprise me. Not going to waste my time then.
Phil was just head of first party back then. I am sure he had some say in the matter, but the buck stops with Don.Phil was on stage with Don Mattrick in 2013. Peddling what MS/Xbox were trying to sell to fans. Fan backlash, Phil gets to save face and take over Don’s job. He’s is now all about telling you what he thinks you want to hear while inviting you into his walled ms/Xbox garden. He’s the same as every other industry executive. Don’t be fooled.
This is the full excerpt from the Axios interview.Regarding Bungie, are we sure that statement wasn't more about MS being better at giving their studios more freedom today than in the past?
Obviously if you sell your company you don't get all the spoils, goes without saying. But MS seems to be doing a better job of keeping the principal figures happy at the the different studios now.
when Concern and other known apostles enter a thread sword and shield as if they are being personally attacked and clearly not having read ANYTHING. Or have yet to actually add any perspective or something useful to the conversation based on the actual article/era post other than fabricating moon studio head as being disgruntled, lol....
Imagine saying people are warring when you yourself have been banned multiple times. You really cant make this shit up.
People like Punished Miku and others have actually contributed, you still havent. You probably wont make it till next years end anyway on this forum the way you're going. It also seems my comment offended you, my apologies but if the shoe fits wear it. If it werent true it shouldnt offend you or bother you enough to acknowledge it, But then again you've displayed on several different occasions that you cant even read, so im not entirely suprised. You mean not the fanboy perspective you wanted to hear. Ok "critical thinker" lol. The irony

I read the article. I'm just not sure if he's saying they would have let them put software on PS. Would they allow them to work on something other than Halo, probably. It was well known back then that Bungie was unhappy with MS's management (at least the magazines were reporting that). This is the full excerpt from the Axios interview.
Microsoft’s head of gaming understands why Bungie, arguably the most acclaimed game studio in Xbox history, left the tech giant to go independent many years ago, but he thinks his company might have been able to retain them today.
Driving the news: Some fascinating what-if scenarios about Bungie and Xbox are top of mind going into next week, thanks to some major releases.
What they’re saying: “We’ve learned a lot,” Xbox’s Phil Spencer told Axios when we discussed Bungie’s history with Xbox in late October.
- On Tuesday, Bungie will celebrate its 30th anniversary in its hit game Destiny 2, while on Wednesday Xbox will release the newest game from the franchise Bungie created but no longer develops: Halo.
- Microsoft acquired Bungie in 2000 and launched its first console, the Xbox, alongside Bungie’s hit Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001.
- Bungie created several more Halo games before going independent in 2007 and creating the Destiny shooter series for Xbox, PlayStation, and eventually PC and Stadia.
I think the Moon studios guy wanted a similar deal with Microsoft. Phil said fuck no, im not letting you own the IP AND release it on PS, gtfo, and now he's upset at Phil saying they would let Bungie be independent and still work with them.
- Asked if the split was inevitable or if Microsoft could have held on to them, he added: “Could we do it today? I think we could.”
- But he said he understands why they left. “At the time they had big ambitions. They had sold their business for a certain amount of money. They saw what Halo turned into. And it's like, ‘OK, Microsoft benefited more than Bungie did from the success of Halo.’ There's no other story that can be written there.”
- He mused, “If you're saying, ‘Hey, I think I've got another one of those in me. I want to really take another chance,’ I can understand the allure of doing that as an independent company.”
So, maybe Moon should complain with Sony and Nintendo?Yep and both Nintendo and Sony said no thanks.
It doesn’t need to be solved. Not every problem needs to be championed and fixed. MS doesn’t make games for the PlayStation. Thems the breaks. How does that solve PR BS which is what this dev is pointing out?
Not that MS should do this but, is this grounds for legal action? He's making negative PR statements about the NDA deal he signed with MS. Also, I agreed he knew what he signed and why he signed it to create Ori and make a name for it. MS did that with Xbox, PC and Nintnedo now he's not happy? Hears a hint go develop a game on your own and promote it. Then maybe you can bellyache about these things.this is so dumb. he himself is playing the "game".
he's trying to start shit despite fully knowing what he signed up for when he signed the contract for it's exclusivity. he's hoping it gets enough negative PR that Microsoft releases the rights to publish on PlayStation for his own financial benefit.
Oh no doubt. Like I said before, he’s using this interview as a springboard to air out his grievances about the Ori deal yet again. It’s 100% sour grapes. So, maybe Moon should complain with Sony and Nintendo?
He's right in one aspect. Microsoft likes to tout how they're trying to unite gamers by bringing games to more platforms and that they're not competing with PlayStation but they exclude ONLY PlayStation gamers.
They try to make games accessible to everyone whether you use console, PC or mobile. They never said they will bring games to other platforms. They still occasionally release stuffs on Switch.ay no more platform barriers but just when it's convenient for him, not make the Spencer contradictions excusable.
Would microsoft allow PS store front or E Shop on xbox consoles?Yep and both Nintendo and Sony said no thanks.
Game Pass isn’t a store front, it’s a service.Would microsoft allow PS store front or E Shop on xbox consoles?
He needed funding to actually make his game this the agreement with Xbox. Who launched his game on Xbox, PC, Switch and mobile. It makes sense wanting to be multiplat so next time just make ur game multiplat. What am i missing?
bht the problem is Phil he said he’s not putting it on other consoles. It’s not a constant thing. He’s obviously saying you aren’t tied to a physical box to play their games.Well, yes. I mentioned this earlier. Microsoft NEEDS their walled garden. A lot of their revenue is tied to $500 console sales, $60 a year XBL subs, 30% cut on microtransactions and ALL digital sales, and of course gamepass. This, so much. He‘s just setting up a new fanbase. MS was good enough to help Ori through development hell and put their name on the map, now they want more. Good luck. He's playing to an audience.
They are more open. Sony would have never released Ori on PC and Switch. It would had been a PS4 exclusive. This guy just sounds like he regrets signing an exclusivity deal.
Sony would have placed similar terms, but maybe have told him less bullshit to trick him into thinking they were "more open".
For a long time, everyone saw through Phil's kumbaya bullshit already. If this dev chose to believe it, that's on him, I'm afraid.
Sony would have been OK with PC at the very least. Countless indies have released on PC and PS4 simultaneously. They are more open. Sony would have never released Ori on PC and Switch. It would had been a PS4 exclusive.
Which contains games on it, on top of the 3rd party games already offered on the native store fronts. Why would any platform holder that makes a brunt of their revenue from 3rd party games want gamepass on their platform?Game Pass isn’t a store front, it’s a service.
