Opinion: Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most DISAPPOINTING games ever!

Witcher 3 put CDPR on the map, had amazing Metacritic score, user score, Steam score, everyone on GAF and Reddit were screaming the praise of CDPR calling them the next BioWare and the game sold shitloads.

The only reason people were even anticipating Cyberpunk was due to the fact it was from the amazing Witcher 3 developers.

The fan reception to Witcher 3 vs Cyberpunk couldn't be any more different. Stop trying to defend a mediocre game.
thats like...your opinion bro. In MY opinion, cyberpunk is goty material, better than witcher 3 in many ways. so yes, nobody trying to defend as much as you are tying to convince others the game is mediocre when its not, just cause of bugs and the fact that last gen consoles cannot run it.

It released broken on consoles lol stfu.

Broken is far too strong. There were just some slowdowns in the swamp section and maybe in the big city too. Nothing like Cyberpunk.

But bugs and performance aren't what people are complaining about here anyway.

People seem to complain more about the lack of things to do in the open world (on all versions), the lifeless city due to a lacking NPCs AI, and the lack of consequences going with your choices in the story.

Why couldn't we get all these cold takes in the summer time when we're paying for air conditioning? The good side quests don't even really start until you're 20 hours in.

The first 10 hours is a flashy linear hub shooter that explains the story. The RPG doesn't start until later. I didn't even understand the skill trees until I was 15 hours in. Now I'm one shotting dudes with synapse burnout and skewing his mates with my arm swords. Double jumping to my hearts content and doing side missions that are greater than the best mainline mission from every Ubisoft game in the last 15 years combined. Whew lad that farm and the cinematography of the scene at the end, when the dust has settled and the sun is rising.

People tend to ignore the bigger picture surrounding this game, focusing primarily on bugs and technical deficiencies.

Bugs aside, the game has none of the promised player agency and freedom that was advertised. This was marketed as a “true RPG” and yet all I saw was what basically amounted to another Bethesda game with the same, uninspired linear main quest with some side quests peppered throughout.

The game lacks depth and true nuance; it doesn’t give you a real sense of living inside of this world they’ve crafted. Yes it has atmosphere and visual panache, and it does a good job of producing a gorgeous cyberpunk aesthetic, but it’s so fucking STATIC and hollow. Instead of letting the player feel like they’re involved in the world and their character 2, 3, 4 layers deep, you get the same surface level “go here, do that” flow of gameplay with nothing that was promised in the previews or their manufactured hype “sizzle reels”.

We were promised a next-level RPG the likes of which we’d never seen before. Instead , we were jerked off.

I enjoyed the writing in Cyberpunk so far, but the engine behind the game never felt like it's designed to compete with the likes of Euphoria/GTA/RDR2. Expecting Cyberpunk to match or exceed GTA in open world features never really felt like a realistic expectation, despite what the media/advertisement/CDPR corpos hints at in trailers.

I think the trailers pushing a living city was a mistake, and the adverts should have focused more on the narrative aspect of the game. It really felt like an attempt to capture the GTA audience that cares more for the interactivity rather than just a straight on story driven game.

Cyberpunk 2077 in its current state feels like the foundation of a brilliant theme park just with a lot of "under construction" signs all over the place.

The lesson here may be to always have abnormally low expectations when the trailers/media delivers an abnormal amount of hype when it comes to big AAA games.

You're not wrong, and I agree

But that's why I completely believe this game will be like No Man's Sky and they will update and expand the features over time.

I honestly believe this game is a stealth GAAS Single Player game.

Do I think that's acceptable? No. But this is inevitable with how lacking the game is beyond the main story and core gameplay loop.

I agree as there was way too much time and money spent on creating and marketing this game for it to be one and done. Beat the game the other day (disappointing ending/s) and I'm wanting more. The Cyberpunk world is something that has never been attempted at this scale.

There may be many dissapointment aspects about this game, some things even unacceptable by today's standard, many dissapointments mainly due to how CDPR marketed their game; some of the marketing information and promises where a direct lie from their part, but some others were just... fiction, made by the fans themselves, fans who were so drowned by an immeasurable amount of hype surrounding this game, to the point where they themselves created an unhealthy amount of unimaginable thoughts and wishes hovering around their heads, this since the moment they game was revealed for the second time during that E3 event.

I've encountered many people who were expecting some next level shit, even an evolution to Grand Theft Auto V in term of interaction. Like being able to do crazy shit like you can do in Grand Theft Auto online, but with a Cyberpunk setting.. Yes, I know many people who had that level of expection, and they are found more often than you think. Yeah, as I've indicated above, CDPR has part of fault here due to their marketing wordings and mumbo jumbo, etc, but partly..

In my own experience as a person who was absolutely hyped about this game, and who saw every single marketing material, detail and gameplay demonstration, after seeing over their "Wooooooowooo choombas!! Fucck! Open world amaziness incoming!! be readyyy" material, what I just expected was a The Witcher 3 type of game in first person view, with character creation, a city instead of a landscape, and vehicules as a traveral method, just that. And I completely feel this is what I really got after playing Cyberpunk 2077 for over 70 hours. If you see the game like that, I don't see how can dissapoint:

Missions scheme, about the same, I'd say a bit deeper than The Witcher 3 in that aspect. World interaction, about the fucking same except the lack of an actual minigame like Gwent, and hairstyle stuff at the barbershop. RPG elements.... Same. The RPG here takes the same formula of passive perks like The Witcher 3 but going deeper. Now with the extra of a shooting & looting system added in there to give it more depth to the game and that is it. it works as intended in order to create a variety of builds; nothing astounding though. And then, the dialogues and decisions; same shit as The Witcher 3, nothing goes too crazy to the point where your decisions throughout the main campaign change drastically the predetermined path lead by the game, and in the end you just get multiple endings and some lore conclusion backgrounds after credits..

In conclusion, yes.. There are many things to improve aside from bugs and performance, the NPC AI, the laughable and non-existant police wanted system, some mods and cyberwares that don't work as intended, some perks that are totally useless, and that is it... They just need to add more content, maybe some contents that boost interactivity with the world like casino minigames, ability to change your character look on the go, car tunings as "main revival of cut features", new perks, new weapon classes, etc..

Have to disagree. Video is very well done and points and many issues. It's extremely well edited. That title is a big much, but overall a good video.

Well done video reviews aren't filled with as many half-truths, misleading points and outright lies as that. That guy is a grifting cunt and a complete hack. Don't forget to check his link in the description to buy merch and the song in the video! Ka-ching!!! $$$$$$$$

Mute the narrator hype man and ignore the ultra slow an deliberate "cinematic" panning it's basically what we got. Some things cut, some things changed, some things better.

Someone could easily make a polished video like that with similar narration of the current game and hype it up to the moon.

What does next gen even mean? PS6? It's marketing speak. Why the fuck should I care what the marketing people say? We live in am age where you have a giant databank of info in the palm of your hand and you are still letting marketing people sell things to you? Sad. I'm a (mostly) well adjusted adult and I can think for myself.

Already did. I did it by playing the game and forming my own opinion instead of parroting some grifter Youtuber trying to sell more shitty ironic merch. Does he also use grossly misquoted translastions posted on Reddit as his sources or does he steal clips from people and monetize the video? Having a hard time sifting through all the bullshit they all just run together.

No one has ever said there aren't problems. Many of us have had no major problems. Small annoying issues I've encountered in every launch date open world game I've played the last two decades? Yeah, I have. This is also PC gaming and clearly many people have either never played on PC or are new to the platform. None of this is new and even the most polished to perfection game will cause someone, somewhere problems. But, you can usually fix that problem on your own.

Don't believe every asshole Youtuber looking to make a quick buck. Please list this huge range of problems. I already know about Police, NPC AI (neither of which are important for me in an rpg) or "it isn't an rpg!" (Which is a 100% lie, straight up). I don't have time for tears I've already seen a million times.[/i]

After playing it on the Series X, I wouldn't go as far as saying it was disappointing. I pretty much binged the game and did some side quests and really enjoyed the story and the immersiveness of Night City.

It has bugs , that's very apparent, what is upsetting is this game was announced back in 2013, The devs spent 7 years, maybe, on this game and in the possible final year where was QA testing of this product ?

They knew for certain the game had issues that they delayed it but still without giving it a second thought decided to release it , under pressure by share holders and I'll say the damn community. What bothers me is they mislead older console owners on how bad the performance was and to an extent PC owners(usually this group resolves their own issues).. but to keep things hidden on the performance for older console owners is saddening for those that were excited to play this. They shipped a shit product and are putting out fires now. I want to give CDPR the benefit that eventually this game will be what they advertised but they had the time to deliver this product.. that bothers me. Less disappointed at the game but more upset on how CDPR Executives and Creative Director handled this.

To be honest they gave it second and 3rd thoughts, because it was delayed 2 or 3 times .. but they should have delayed it one more time.

Nothing says well adjusted like someone who tells you they are well adjusted only to go on to an unhinged defence of a game that has been widely panned for very legitimate reasons.

So it’s the consumers fault they got the wool pulled over their eyes by the developers for years? Ok friend, you sound reasonable.

Many things are worse, dropped in footage alone. Whole features are gone.
And the narrator just spews bullshit all the time. none of what he says is true

Unhinged? I'm not the one with a product I loathe living rent free in my mind nearly a month after its release. Widely panned? Lol. Over 300k reviews on Steam sitting at mostly positive, no joke for a buggy multi-platform release.

Cool that you didn't even answer my question and immediately went for personal comments. Yet I'm the "unhinged" one and sarcastically referred to as reasonable?

Consumers generally are idiots. The wool is never pulled over your eyes in this ubiquitous internet era unless you allow it to be. Then you're just an ignorant and lazy fool. Buying yearly titles with no major improvements, hundreds of billions in MXT purchases, paying to play online, defending an absurdly successful game company raising their game prices, etc etc.

When I started this game I was overwhelmed with the amount of options, upgrades, perks etc and the game appeared to be massive. I dint know where to start, it felt like I could discover new things every few steps. This game is going to last me such a long time I thought to myself. But all that's a bit of an illusion as when I started following the main quest it wasn't long until I reached a warning that I was at the point of no return. Hang on! I haven't been playing for long, I have barely touched any crafting, or weapon customisation, my character isn't that powerful nor are my weapons. I was genuinely confused at first and thought it was the start of many 'point of no return' messages. Thats when it hit me that, no, this was it. So if the main story is that short then all the crafting and upgrading is only relevant for the side quests I guess. If you are not a side quest type of person then all that will feel pointless.

Anyway, I didn't continue past the point of no return and I have now started to seek out side quests to bulk out my time with the game and make it last longer than its pathetically short main storyline. Because of that I have lost interest and stoped playing altogether.

Why the fuck are the incoming cars disappearing?

They do this weird optical effect for far away traffic where it's basically 2D sprites that disappear eventually, usually you're meant to be far enough away you can't tell, it just looks like distant traffic and even them disappearing is unnoticeable but there are plenty of areas where you can spot it happening far more blatantly. Unless we're talking real 3D car models, that I assume is down to HDDs as opposed to SSDs, I feel like on next-gen the game will truly shine because most issues feel streaming related.

That’s how bad the game’s design is, nothing to do with hardware. I’m playing it on PS5 and it is constantly happening on the streets the traffic is constantly spawning/de-spawning cars, I have never seen anything like this before. As good as the game is, some things are clearly broken AF!

It was quite disappointing for me personally. The visual bugs i can laugh off, the T posing was common in my run of the game. The poor performance was a massive let down. Then add that once you done everything once there is nothing worth going back to replay. The life path has really nothing to add to the story, cept a line or two getting you extra cash or opening a door easier. The corpo life i picked did give me a quest where your old boss tries to kill you under the guise of killing the boss who got you fired. It was pointless as i had forgotten who the character was it was so late in the run time. Went hacking/netrunner skills and stealth. I could kill everyone in a building while standing outside with contagion. It was so easy it was almost boring. Then Johnny was just nagging me all the time. "F THE CORPOS MANNNNNNNNN!!!!!!! WE SHOULD BE FREEEE MANNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!" It was like being stuck inside a student union building with an over opinionated twitter user.
The missions did stand out to some degree, Panam's story as well as the serial killer missions were great. The main antagonist and his henchman were disappointing. You only saw them at the beginning and the end of the game. They were not a constant threat or something you should be seeing do things in the world. At most you would hear a news story, but nothing physical on the city.

Do a side quest that happens inside of a building...leave some enemies alive after you complete the objective..Shoot your way out but leave them alive.

When you get to the street all the NPC's are gone, no cars on the street or anything. And they don't re-appear until you've either A) Completed the mission by dropping off whatever you had a at a dropbox, or B) Selected another mission on the map to go to or C) Died

But they unload all of the assets outside and its obvious they have it coded where they don't trigger everything outside to reload until you're out of combat/mission complete. But if you run out there while it still says "Combat" its a ghost town. I've done it fast enough where I've just stood outside for a long ass time with not one car/not one npc...then I'll open the map, pick a diff mission to track, and it auto loads all the npc's/vehicles back in :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yep, it’s a clusterfuck. Drive a car on a motorway and look behind you, the cars are constantly spawning/despawning in a background in a very weird manner, the coding in this game is as bad as I’ve ever seen, it looks like CDPR replaced all those devs that left the company in the middle of developing CP 2077 with amateur devs.

“The next generation of open world games“

Instead we got the Witcher 3 in first person.
I wish it was even close at the level of content as Witcher 3, because it isn't.

Its Deus Ex open world with Cyberpunk elements.

It is what it is, and it's not a bad thing; but it does leave you feel wanting more. So much so, that I secretly want this to be a stealth GAAS game so we get more out of it over the months and maybe even year from now.

And I dont think I've ever said that about any other game in my entire life.

Wow @ some people in this thread. Seriously, shilling for this game is quite pathetic.

You gonna actually add to the discussion or just cower behind a vague passive aggressive comment? Did you even play the game?

If the discussions for this game were actually honest, like some here and in the OT that I highly disagree with but very much respect, and not poisoned with half-truths, manipulations, lies and not even discussing the actual meat of the game by many people, who probably haven't even played the game, I wouldn't even be in this thread and would stick to the OT and the Panam vs Judy threads. Far too many people telling me I'm a shill or I'm fooling myself into liking a game for me to just stay quiet. Watch out, I typed more than two sentences. I'm unhinged. Wild card, bitches.

CP77 isn't a terrible game, it's got good bits in it, but hardly any of them are coherent with each other, it amazes me that they spent 8 YEARS on it, it's mediocre at best.

I think that Cyberpunk is a great game. Best in class for a while (AAA RPG). But The Witcher 3 for me is on another level because I like fantasy and that specific world more. I like the music in Cyberpunk, but not close to as much as The Witcher 3. I prefer 3rd person and (yes) actually prefer the combat of The Witcher 3, even if the gunplay is pretty good in CP. Many quests are top class in CP2077, but since the lore and world doesn't grab me close to as much they don't feel as amazing to me. TW3 is the best single player experience I ever had and which I don't expect to be surpassed anytime soon. Some of the music is amazing, but the music of The Witcher is the some of the best game music I ever heard and lived with me for a long time. The futuristic GTA-city is amazing, but at the same time I prefer adventures where you are on a Lord of the Ring style journey and get to experience new places and changing city districts just isn't as cool to me. I personally don't care much about the cars.

Not least Geralt is the best protagonist in a game that I have experienced. Many characters in CP2077 are great, but I hate acidentally looking in a mirror because I despise the abomonition of a "V" that I managed to create and can't change. I don't drive bikes in 3rd person as I normally would because I can't stand the sight of him. He wears ridiculous clothes (bonuses), looks about 17 years old with a punchable face and a blue beard, what the fuck was I thinking :messenger_grinning_sweat: Coupled with the (not that great) voice acting, the protag just comes off as an angsty teen who I struggle to take seriously.

The gear mod system of the game is broken too. You know, the actual RPG side of it. The core game mechanics is fucked.
That ontop of the game breaking mission glitches, graphical bugs and braindead AI. How many times did I walk into a camp and headshot enemies from point blank range without them even reacting to me.
Game of the year material this game? You'd have to be high out of your mind to claim that.

Do yourself a favor and educate yourself by hopping over to YouTube and watching all Cyberpunk game play trailers and demos from before the game was launched. There were a ton of features and 'next gen' gameplay ideas floated in those demos that would be in the final game.
This is the reason people became so hyped for the game in the first place.

59 hours in and I agree with this. Only highlights is the main story and side quests. Very well done with that. Everything else is average at best.
Still cant get over how cops just spawn out of thin air right next to you 🤣. It's like PS2 tier shit.

I did. Many, many of those "promised" features were announced as cut, never actually announced as official or conjured up in the minds of the Cyberpunk Life Simulator: San Andreas crowd.

As I said before, I get the police and NPC AI and physics complaints. Y'all keep mentioning things without going into actual, concrete specifics, and tell me to watch a 45 minute video made by some cunt with a merch store to pimp. Post an actual list of real, sourced info instead of mistranslated, misquoted bullshit posted on Reddit and Youtube.

Jesus tapdancing christ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I gotta try this.

Do you even need to own the game on Metacritic to post a review? Thought so. Here's a better, more honest measure with much more user data.

These are all normies though. Even few people at my work who never play video games and make fun of me for "being a gamer" bought and play 2077... and they love it. THey don't see anything wrong with police, ai, disappearing cards, people, no choices in quests or everything that was removed. NORMIES - CASUALS.

Like - they say "I will play this for 200 hours. You only played for 50 hours?! That's nothing... but when it comes to progress, i am further than them.". If You are someone who don't play video games and the last thing You played was fifa or witcher3 then You know.
Then, they play on like lowest setting and say "it runs great on my 5600xt !" Or I show them ps4 footage and they do not see it's running 15fps.
That's what majority of people are. That's how masses of normies see games. they don't know any better.
Edit: Adding to that - They will do every side quest and gig there is. No matter if it's simplest fetch quest in existence... They don't play other games. To me, it's not worth my time. it's filler

I did. Post #457

And I did. 10 hrs of the PS4 version on PS5.

I personally think the game is an undercooked piece of shit.

Ten hours? A whole ten hours summed up by boiling the game down to the absolute basics and definitely making some stuff up. Your opinion is your opinion and all but I'll be sure to do just that in the next Sony exclusive wankfest thread. Lol, absolutely adorable.

I'll take my leave of this thread and let some of you keep paying attention to and even playing this "undercooked piece of shit."
