I know the official name is the RTX3090, but if it's ok with everyone I'm just going to call it the PS5 Punisher.

The 3090 is more or less for content creators like people who make CGI, or develop games.

So I don't know why your comparing a $500+ console to a $1500+ video card.

8K is here?

Thought that is Impressive to do 8k, none of those games are super intensive. Would rather see 8k running FS2020. Which I hear is the new crysis for benchmarks.

Thank you, after all the shit I talk that is very kind!

It will be fun, I can't decide whether to build or buy...I kinda want the fun of ordering the pieces and putting that personal touch but the convenience of Alienare and the aesthetic of their new rig is nice.
Conventional wisdom is to build your own but prebuilt has its advantages. I'd go with Cyberpower personally for a prebuilt. More options. Less expensive.

I'm going to be doing a new build this fall or Christmas with a Ryzen 3, and the price for my rig will be in $3k range(+/- a little either way). I'm going to go with the upcoming faster SSD's by Sabrent or Samsung. I'm teetering on the edge of going for the 3090, but with much more ram than the 3080 does that mean better performance with ray tracing? What's this extra ram truly get me? 4K120hz? Will this card last 3-4 years and still be in the top 5 performers in 2023-24? It's only 6TB higher than the 3080 and costs so much more. Also, I love emulation. I'm wondering how much better the 3090 will be at running emulators such as Cemu, Yuzu, RPCS3, and Xenia than the 3080. These questions and more will drive my purchasing decision once Ryzen 3 arrives.

It sounds like they are expecting competition from AMD because these prices are way too reasonable considering how they have behaved in the last few years.
Pricing on 3080 and below is indeed peculiar.

If the dude who announced that "prices will be good" hours before the announcement is right, AMD's big Navi is between 3080 and 3070, far above 3070 (so that 3070Ti would not reach it).

Just buy 3 ps5s, connect the SSDs with usb and you beat 3080.
I recall 3080 is touted as twice 2080, not three times.

This is my thinking as well. No one expected these prices we all expected higher. So to me they must know what TSMC has for a process and a rough estimate on the gains. I think after September things will be much clearer.

What do you base that assertion on?

The 3090 is designated and marketed as a gaming card. If it's for content creators specifically, then it would be a Quadro.

Go rewatch please.

It's basically their new titan, which even by what they showed for CGI creation is what those cards are gears towards. Instead of paying $2000+ for RTX 4000 you can pay $1500 for a card with more updated feature set that also destroys any game at 4k.

3090 is for people who want to game at 4k or use it for content creation. And their whole new suite of software they showed off literally explained that with how people bought the titan which were small percentage.

3090 is meant for both.

I hope this is just the first of many today. Otherwise, Rich got some juicy early access which is impressive.

I think they tend to get in on this stuff because they are happy to keep things confidential and stick to the guidelines set out to them. They're good like that.

I wonder how this will affect AMDs stock

I'm already sweating but it's stable so far.

If it drops I'll just buy more tbh.

Nvidia should go into the porn business, because I just came...

...home and I'm surprised that the prices are actually somewhat reasonable for such high end cards. Now I really have to think whether to go for a launch PS5 or upgrade my PC. Hmmm

Concerning the prices, one will have to wait for the prices of board partners. I believe the 2080 TI sold for well above the announced price.

Given the relative weakness of the RTX2000 series, the performance jump is even more impressive. I am really contemplating getting a watercooled RTX 3090...

Yeah that would leave you with 150 bucks for everything else. Is that what you are trying to state? Really?
You do know that most PC gamers already have a PC, right? It's isn't like a console where you have to upgrade the whole thing, smh.

Looking at those 3080 and 3070 specs I'm under impression that for the first time xx80 series might offer better price/perf over xx70 series hmm ? [that cuda increase is big + add faster memory] Need to see reviews.

I think you and I just have a different working definition of what "more or less" means.

Yup the RTX 3080 is now the bang for buck king, until an RTX 3060 at 250 dollars comes out.

But yeah that 3080 is looking so damn sweat, pretty much double the performance of the 2080?

Madness, absolute madness.

Well, as usual no competition for Nvidia :messenger_fire: For such prices AMD can compete only with mobile.

I think competition is coming and Nvidia know it.

No way these prices are what they are without AMD having something decent up their sleeve.

Either that or Nvidia just want to nail their coffin.

The card is massive, but it has nothing to do with the loading and streaming as some would dream. It's a great step in the right direction, my get one myself.

It's not that big, it's under 12 inches so will fit in the vast majority of ATX cases.

Why price it that high then and why add 24gb of memory if all it was meant for was gaming? BLENDER, ADOBE, COREL, ZBRUSH, all use memory like crazy. It was made that way to appease both sectors.

From the DF video, it looks like the 3080 will be ~80% faster than the 2080 on average. That would put it at ~40% faster than the 2080 Ti. 5700 XT doubled = ~32% faster than the 2080 Ti. So it could be very close.

Yep, 3090 isn't targeted at gamers specifically. Jensen called 3080 their "flagship", it's clear that's the card they're launching as 2080TI replacement for gaming sector.

Ill probably take a hit of ~£100 i'm not too concerned about that so much.

Considering the volitility of the second hand market where I live I'm probably looking at a £200 hit on a card that is only a couple of months old. But to be honest I don't care, the new card is too good to pass up.

Only on RTX3090.

RTX3070, 3080 are too weak for that. Same Black Leather Jacket Himself said that. $1500 for it sounds fair though. But why the f*ck can it only decode AV1?

For 50TF of RT, 300TF of other performance, .... i have not seen anything that blows my mind. Minecraft with RT is still the benchmark (even if it´s just an empty world with flat surfaces, cubes and nothing else) and that runs "flawlessly" on a 2080+.

I'll still do 99% of my gaming on PS5 but this will be great for some of the games I can't get on PS5, strategy games and such...

Crusader Kings 3 is top of that list.

Because supply is low and demand is high = expensive.

24GB VRAM is future proof and shows off E-peen, things gamers care about.

None of these cards are only meant for gaming and nothing else. It's a GPU. It's in a PC. There's a lot of uses for them. However, the GEFORCE brand, is specifically about gaming and gaming related experiences.

Glad I stuck with my 2060 which was actually suppose to be a temp card for me, but it has actually held its own at 1440p so I kept it rather than upgrading. That 3070 might be the logical upgrade for me but that 3080 is really tempting.

Also, NVIDIA's pricing make me think they know AMD has something good cooking. Either-way, it will be a big win for gamers looking to upgrade this year as we are going to see some very powerful cards in the $400 and $500 range.

let's look how this goes. gross margins of gaming GPUs will be lower than with turing on this new node with the stated prices. and they already took 80% of TAM before that. only 20% left to gain from AMD.
on the other hand stock markets do very strange things sometimes.
Sales of 20 series were below par iirc.
30 series seems to hit new heights, Nvidia is going to dominate desktop and laptop gaming for another generation of 18-24 months :messenger_bicep:
