It has been my experience so far that the majority (perhaps not by much, but at least a bit more than half) of people on the net who spew hatred of a given stripe at a race/group/club/fandom/lifestyle/gender/sexual orientation, may in fact try to shield themselves with the "it's just an e-joke har har" defense... but closer examination hints that they really do have a problem. The thing about the net, I have seen over the last 10 years I've been on it, is that it also acts as a great excuse for one's self. You go online and hate asians or "fags", and because the Internet is just a big Playstation game, you can tell yourself that you're an okay person in real life... where you just happen to have strong social pressures surrounding you that tend to prevent you making a slip and allowing your dark side from showing.
But it doesn't change the fact that say, you obsessively go online to hate and insult people. Wow, you sure do like to do that, don'tcha... maybe something's a bit repressed?
I know that "nerdy" guys in particular flock to it, all joking aside. Just recently, I dealt with a nutty kid who was a real intellectual, bookworm major in sociology and language - he's really bright, actually knows something... but goes online to present himself as an older, superior intellectual and find "stupid" people to utterly destroy, to celebrate his superiority. Online he's one of the biggest assholes I've EVER seen, stunning.

Everybody in this thread has had racist thoughts at some point in their life but we don't say anything because we know at the end of the day, it's only a small minority of people in any ethnic group that perpetuate the stereotypes of said race.
I don't condone racism in any form, but on the same front, if you go out looking to stir up trouble from the get-go, you're probably gonna bring out the worst in people.

I don't know... I don't play Live as often as some (and I never win because I'm fucking horrible at Halo 2), but I've personally never even heard racial insults being thrown about. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I don't think it's a "problem" by any stretch of the word.Blackace said:

I really didn't know what color you were. My point is, color shouldn't matter. Far too many people focus too much on our differences in this world which helps keep us all at odds.

What I don't get is how so many people act like all racism is born from pure ignorance of racial equality or something. In many cases it's obvious that a person is racist simply because it's the easiest and fastest way to be a dick/elicit a reaction. Maybe they really are a racist, maybe they really do hate people of other ethnicities, but a lot of times the origin/cause isn't real hate of those ethnicities but rather them being a loser and racism being easy.
