Western games are known for their gunplay and shooting mechanics due to FPS genre being created in the US, whereas in Japan they're known for melee combat since hack and slash was originally created in Japan.

Both sides have had 20-30 years to get used to each style of combat, so what if we flipped the roles? Which Japanese game do you know that has the best FPS/TPS gunplay? Which Western game do you know that has the best Melee combat?


For Western Melee, i'd have to respond Sifu, or the Arkham games. Leaning more towards Sifu for its insane depth and skill when it comes to combat. It's a very deep and well executed combat system and one of the best in any game regardless of the dev location.

For Japan, Resident Evil 4 and it's not even close. It's probably the smoothest gun play and combat i've ever felt in a video game.

Best melee, idk, wolfenstein, cod, bf or moh, can't tell which is better but historicaly, wolfenstein is one of the best I've ever seen.

Easy for me, Vanquish, binary domain, for japanese shooter. and Darksiders for western melee. Kinda underrated by many. Although not for darksiders is quite got it's name.

Vanquish is kind of short, but understandable for that kind of arcade-y game. And the feels are just right.

Binary domain is kind of cool because reminds me to ff7+terminator feels. also the enemy waves styles are keeping fun for me.

I cant recall konami shooter at psp, also kinda cool oldschool boomer shooter with nice presentation.

If you like mecha, daemon machina and votoms in ps2, are good games as well.

There are should be some of them which i forgot, sometimes good game also lost in translation.

Darksiders combo anyway, is one of the best beat em up/hack and slash imo. And the long playtime is quite enough for me to recall the game. The depth of combo each weapon and combinable combos are quite good. Definetely the best western hack and slash for me.

JP gunplay, definitely The Citadel for me. In fact, the gunplay in this game is just amazing in general.



Melee combat for western games, would probably go with Crosscode. Again, great in general.
