The Outer Worlds exceeded expectations both critically and commercially, so they were doing pretty good. They certainly didn't need Microsoft money to keep the studio going.Brian fargo was probably going to retire after Wasteland 3 because of the constant grind to raise money. Obsidian who knows their last game was AA because of budget ffs.
Most of this isn't going to translate in more games being made, though, just more expensive ones with higher production values. Ideally this would mean better games, but we've seen so many high-budget prestige projects flounder (Cyberpunk, or even Microsoft's very own Halo infinite) or fail outright (*cough* Anthem *cough*) over the past few years that that's far from certain. Both inexile and Obsidian are staffing up thanks to Microsofts money a new rpg studio started by playground. Also besthesda won't have to worry about making garbage like fall out 76 to keep the company ahead. Avowed, Fable and inexile AAA rpg are not made with out Microsoft funds.
Always a good idea.
But lets play along. Which RPGs are coming out for Playstation?
Final Fantasy 16 is exclusive to Playstation. At least timed. That's a bigger deal to me than anything Xbox potentially has.
Wasteland 3 is a tremendous game and my second favourite of last year behind TLOU2. Outerworlds is a good but had a tight budget, they've got a big budget now. Fallout 4 I tend to agree with you but all proven teams IMO.Fallout 4 was pretty mediocre. Wasteland 3 didn't set the world on fire nor did Outerworlds. Playground games hasn't made a non-racing game. Plenty of reason for doubt.
Rather than Arkane who makes Immersive Sims, you should include Zenimax Online Studios who are making a new MMORPG project.Just look at the RPG's slated for the Series X / S :
Forza guys - Fable.
Obsidian - Avowed.
Bethesda - Starfield, next Elder Scrolls.
InXile - Wasteland 3 came out last year, so they're definitely cooking something else.
Arkane Studios - They have Deathloop coming out soon (well its a timed exclusive for ps5) but Prey 2, new Dishonored or a new IP must be in the works.
I still have a gaming PC, so I'm not worried about not being to play these, but I will be salty if the previous third party studios in that list don't port them to PlayStation 5, just because I'm curious what dualsense implementation they would add, if any.
Perhaps the new Switch Pro could compete, but who knows?
Man I don't get you, Microsoft are obviously pushing with more RPG's for the platform. Fable was greenlit and given to PG, they could have easily let PG do something else. Halo Infinite isn't even out so I don't even know why you mentioned that. The fact you are dismissing Microsoft's role in producing AAA RPG's and making claims like these games would have been made anyway is rather silly and at best speculation. The Outer Worlds exceeded expectations both critically and commercially, so they were doing pretty good. E3 says Hi!Screenshots, release dates or detailed previews for these games?
I'm not interested in those type of games so they are irrelevant to me.Don’t forget Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne coming later this month.
You game on PC I guess? So they already have your money. PS owners who have nothing like these games are more likely to transition to xbox as its a far cheaper option than a PC, now that's what Microsoft bought Zenimax for.Yeah, it has the two biggest WRPG studios that operate on console.... but is that enough?
I know that for me it doesn't make me want an Xbox anymore than I did last gen.
What's that journalism rule? "If the title is a question, 9 times out of 10 the answer is No".
Never said they weren't. It's just that I have a hard time seeing how any of it amounts to an "explosion" of new RPGs on the system.Man I don't get you, Microsoft are obviously pushing with more RPG's for the platform.
That's precisely why I'm mentioning it. If you recall, that game was supposed to launch with the new consoles back in November. Microsoft thought it was ready for release. They didn't show of that campaign trailer in July thinking people were gonna laugh at the graphics. They genuinely believed it would get people hyped and then freaked the fuck out when it didn't. It's a prime example of developers and publishers pumping huge amounts of cash and time into a prestige project only to end up with something their audience doesn't want.Halo Infinite isn't even out so I don't even know why you mentioned that.
I never said these games would have been made anyway. Just that other games would have been made in their place, which is a valid point when you're talking about the number of genre releases on a console. The fact you are dismissing Microsoft's role in producing AAA RPG's and making claims like these games would have been made anyway is rather silly and at best speculation.
FF16 timed exclusive is a bigger deal than a Bethesda RPG?Final Fantasy 16 is exclusive to Playstation. At least timed. That's a bigger deal to me than anything Xbox potentially has.
Fallout 4 has a 88 MC and was nominated for GOTY. Wasteland 3 has a 85 MC as a semi-niche game. Outerworlds was nominated for GOTY with a 85 MC aswellFallout 4 was pretty mediocre. Oops, that flew right over my head since it seems to be the attitude of several people in this thread.Eh... Yeah. I thought the sarcasm was obvious, but okay.
I was mocking people who go "let's see some actual games" every two seconds like these devs haven't proved themselves time and time again.
I agree with you on some points, and certainly some games would have been made regardless of Microsoft's involvement. I just think with the RPG genre being almost non existent on PS platforms this is a big advantage for Microsoft, and yes we have to wait for the games but E3 is only a month away.Never said they weren't. It's just that I have a hard time seeing how any of it amounts to an "explosion" of new RPGs on the system.

And if saying that the likes of Obsidian and Bethesda would have kept making and releasing games on Xbox even without Microsoft's direct backing is "speculation", then wtf is calling console is an "RPG Powerhouse" when almost all of these games are still years off and haven't been seen by anyone?
E3 my friend, I think you'll be surprised.Should probably add 2023 onwards to the title.
Until anything is confirmed all Bethesda RPGs could eventually release on PS5...Always a good idea.
But lets play along. Which RPGs are coming out for Playstation?
Because hes not an idiotThat's a murky answer. Why couldn't he just say xbox and pc?
I get you, hehe.Oops, that flew right over my head since it seems to be the attitude of several people in this thread.
Dude, it's not telling you don't be hyped. The OP is declaring the Xbox an RPG powerhouse. Fact: you can't be a powerhouse without the games, and great games at that. All we have so far is announcements, not even a snippet of GamePlay. At least PS5 has something and the little it has, either has some estimated date provided by the developer and it also has more concrete material with Gameplay. Get hyped, by all means, I can fantasize about what Spider-Man 2 will be like "in 2024", but I'll be playing FF16 next year while that one gets done. How about you?So we aren’t allowed to be excited for games from developers with a proven pedigree, because the games aren’t right around the corner?
I guess the same people are in every Sony thread saying you can’t be hyped for Ghost of Tsushima 2, Uncharted 6 or The Last of Us part 3 because they are all 2025 or even later. I’d guess Spider-Man 2 is 2024 too. Sony previously had a habit of announcing games at E3 4 or 5 years before release with small CGI reveals, which is exactly what MS have done with Avowed and Fable. Rules for thee but not for me.
The TES 6 teaser from 2 years ago has 13 million YouTube views, which tells you everything about the hype for TES and Bathesda, and how normal it is.
Always a good idea.
But lets play along. Which RPGs are coming out for Playstation?
Horses for courses but Japanese RPGs I find to be absolutely cringe inducing, from the way the characters look and act to the usually incomprehensible plot lines, western RPGs are leagues better, give me Xboxes future RPG line up over anything Squaresoft produce, I mean FFS they're getting ES6 and the biggest for me is a next gen Fable, man that'll be something else (hopefully) At least we have Horizon Zero Dawn 2 to look forward toFinal Fantasy 16 is exclusive to Playstation. At least timed. That's a bigger deal to me than anything Xbox potentially has.
I’ll be playing Halo Infinite, and maybe Starfield, which is cool, because I like Halo and Bathesda RPGs, and I think FF is pretty crap.Dude, it's not telling you don't be hyped. I mean which RPGs you'll be playing while you wait. You don't have a date yet for Starfield, so that's a big maybe (still). I think Bethesda RPGs are garbage. I will also be playing Horizon 2, God of War Ragnarok, Forespoken and FF7 Integrade, I'm willing to bet all of those release before any of the announced RPGs for.Xbox/PC.I’ll be playing Halo Infinite, and maybe Starfield, which is cool, because I like Halo and Bathesda RPGs, and I think FF is pretty crap.
Do we have confirmation of Elder Scrolls and fallout "exclusivity"? I use that term lightly because I can get them on pc.
Not like anyone else can compare. When it comes to list wars, most certainly.
Horizon is no more an RPG than Spider-Man is, and God of War is not an RPG full stop.I mean which RPGs you'll be playing while you wait. You don't have a date yet for Starfield, so that's a big maybe (still). I think Bethesda RPGs are garbage. I will also be playing Horizon 2, God of War Ragnarok, Forespoken and FF7 Integrade, I'm willing to bet all of those release before any of the announced RPGs for.Xbox/PC.
DanjinWell I'm not really in to WRPGs so these list irrelevant for me.
And if we’re playing play along. Probably Persona 6. A new Ni No Kuni game lol
Fan reception for fallout wasn't nearly as good. The torment game inxile made was a wet fart. I guess that doesn't matter all of a sudden?Fallout 4 has a 88 MC and was nominated for GOTY. Wasteland 3 has a 85 MC as a semi-niche game. Outerworlds was nominated for GOTY with a 85 MC aswell
The ones that say yamate and make bank on merch. Atelier Ryza and them thighs bruh.Which RPGs are coming out for Playstation?
Honestly speaking currently Playstation has no dedicated studio for making RPGs for them. Nintendo has Monolith Soft and Xbox currently has Bethesda but Playstation has none and relies heavily on third party to make RPGs for them. And if we’re playing play along. Probably Persona 6. A new Ni No Kuni game lol
Naa Sony games. Gears would have included cover system. Cover and shoot. You just described Gears.
Kids also play on consoles.I forgot about mobile gaming. I'm a grownup so I don't play games on my phone.
