Is it just me or does Horror lose all of its appeal once you add a companion NPC

Only the first one IIRC, the second one has never been on PS2 classics and is only jpn and pal, never published properly on NA.
yea, I actually realized that too after posting. Didn't bother to edit.

It's weird cause there's two listings of the original Siren on the PSN store, 'Siren' and 'Forbidden Siren', not sure if there's a difference between the two. Always thought the latter was the sequel.

You could still do a good horror game with the coop companion. That can really add a lot of possibilities for the design of puzzles and things like that, especially if you have another player doing coop with you. Creating areas where you need to split up and you can't see each other but can communicate via the mic and so on.

It's just the regional name, the PS3 game can be found too with 2 names, as Blood Curse or New translation Siren, New Translation is the better one imo since they basically turn every character in a westerner an rethread the important events of the first game on a linear fashion.

OP listed Dead Space 3 then tried to devalue RE4. What the FUCK.

Also depends if the companion has a strap as well or not. Escort mission stuff is fine for me personally.
where did I devalue RE4? Its one of my fav games of all time, I own the fucking thing like 11 times already

Definitely. I used to have a physical copy of New Translation but lent it to a friend who later moved :messenger_pensive:. I do have Blood Curse on the PS3 though.

My biggest gripe is when they block your path and you have to move them like some giant boulder in order to get past. It’s not just horror games, but in all games with an NPC. Someone like Eileen from Silent Hill 4 isn’t bad. She has a backstory and some elegance to her design. Billy wasn’t bad in RE0 because you had to split up and anything can happen in that time. Friendly fire also changes things. It takes me back to killing the scientist in Goldeneye. I’d honestly rather play with AI just because I don’t have the convenience of playing with a friend. Things like Dead Space 3 was more of an eye roll because I wasn’t planning on playing it with someone else. It all depends on how engaged the NPC is. Ashley being carried away in RE4 while you have a bunch of enemies rushing you down makes you think about what you can do in a short amount of time. If it’s some random AI trying to open a door then it just becomes some generic NPC inclusion to make the story progress. If anything it’s scarier when it’s in a horror game. That sounds so obvious.

They should make a horror game where your companion is possessed, and alternates between helping you and hurting you. You never know when they switch until suddenly they try to fuck you over. Like one moment they're trying to get you across the rope bridge, the next moment they're trying to cut it. Or you're both trying to get through an area and suddenly they are hunting you with a knife. You gotta survive until they switch back, and you find them clueless sitting alone somewhere, like they don't know what happened. But you can't ditch them because they're family or some shit.

It's not you.
Co-op for scary game is really one of the stupidest idea ever. It breaks the atmosphere, totally, I hate it too.

so you used to have both versions NA and EU? weird.
I only ever got the NA PSN version as chapters.
Yea, I lived in Singapore for a few years during the PS3 gen and that place has games from all regions. You could find the physical copy in pretty much any game store and it was fully in english.

Depends...

... the most horrifying game I have ever played is Star Ocean: The Divine Force where the A.I. for my two NPC companions is so utterly broken that I am actually terrified to play the game and, thus, am still unable to beat the first boss approx. 3 hours into the game. Stuff of nightmares. Honestly. I'd sleep easier if I was playing that game solo.
