Why would there be online requirements for physical games?
What will you do with your PS5 when the PS6 is released? As a PS5 owner, should I be deeply concerned about this new revelation, or is NeoGaf making another mountain out of a molehill? It’s difficult to tell nowadays, so please excuse my suspicion.

What difference does it make? I’ve owned the PS3 and PS4 + Pro and never come across this issue. I no longer own the PS3, but I still have my PS4 Pro and as far as I am aware, if the battery dies, I can just get it replaced and continue to download the games. Not that I need to worry, because I can play all the PS4 games on my PS5 and I am only keeping the Pro in case my daughter takes an interest. But to answer your question, I don’t even know if there will be a PS6, or if I’ll want one. And to be honest, there are much bigger things to worry about in life. What will you do with your PS5 when the PS6 is released?
All games are like this in your world?Game go in console
Game need to connect to server to pull data
There
You're just worried about something that's very unlikely to happen. The problem is that they designed it this way in the first place. Also, they will shut down the servers sooner or later.
All games are like this in your world?
Imagine if PS2's would no longer play ANY GAME because Final Fantasy XI needed an internet connection.
Exactly. I am much more concerned that individual single player games are requiring to be online. It's almost like these issues will take care of themselves because many games will not be playable anyway. I am sure the console manufactures can correct any issue. However, game studios/publishers are less likely to do so for their library. Especially if said studio is shutdown or purchased by someone else.Pop in your physical copy of Outriders in your console and you tell me
Imagine no one being able to play NES cartridges today because Nintendo disabled all NES's.More and more games are doing exactly this, and in 10 years even more games will be like this
I have no issues with that sort future. In fact i embrace it
If you set your Xbox as your home console you can be entirely offline and play games.

Can confirm; have played several games on my series x without internet connection. Digital anyway. But you can.
Note You must be online when you set up Xbox One for the first time. Without an internet connection, you can’t finish setup. After your Xbox has updated and you’ve added your profile, you can go offline.Xbox Support

The CMOS battery doesn't prevent the PS2 from playing games (all of which were physical).Hasn’t Sony used this CMOS battery since PS2? How come we haven’t heard anything about this terrible curse since now? Oh wait..... lol, it’s getting desperate now
Luckily, the GBA doesn't require an online connection to play those games after you change the battery.Every GBA game that I had went to shit due to battery death
Probably doesn't have an xbox if he didn't know that. The console gave me a pop-up telling me to do just that. There is an extra step you need to take in order to ensure that you are able to play games that 'require' a patch. Otherwise, when the internet is unavailable, it will keep kicking you to the home screen. I lost internet for about a week or so and learned this the hard way. Luckily the solution to it is easy once you figure it out but the system doesn't tell you that (you have to go into settings and turn on 'Go offline' otherwise you won't be able to play games that need updates - with PS3 you can just hit 'Circle' to dismiss the update message.) Possibly why he thinks you can't play online.
Even if that is true, my point is, it still has a CMOS battery and there are plenty of PS2’s still running absolutely fine with the battery intact. The CMOS battery doesn't prevent the PS2 from playing games (all of which were physical).
Yep, but from the PS3 onward all consoles will have an expiration date and that's not ok.Even if that is true, my point is, it still has a CMOS battery and there are plenty of PS2’s still running absolutely fine with the battery intact.

If no one has done that, it would be worth checking. Or it could be even worse and you have to know that it is going to fault so you have uncheck it before the battery dies lol. If it does indeed require you to connect first (and that's being reported), I hope it is fixed.Has it been fully tested with connect to the internet unticked after the battery has died? I'm tempted to remove my PS4s CMOS battery and try but I'll need a special screw driver I think.
Not imposed by the manufacturer.Every single console has an expiration date
I probably missed the pop up pointing that out but yeah I figured it out and then it was fine.Probably doesn't have an xbox if he didn't know that. The console gave me a pop-up telling me to do just that.
Mate, I get what you are saying, but in reality, what is the likelihood of this doomsday event occurring? I have owned all Sony consoles since PS1 and I have never had a console go faulty on me. Not once. Maybe I’ve been lucky. Also, I believe that the PS6 will remain compatible with PS4 and 5 games, so if I was to get a PS6 and my PS5 CMOS battery did die, it wouldn’t matter one jot.Yep, but from the PS3 onward all consoles will have an expiration date and that's not ok.
A lot of components in a console won't last forever.Yep, but from the PS3 onward all consoles will have an expiration date and that's not ok.
I was only asking because of your previous question. I was pretty much gonna say what you just said. But it looks you have gone all defensive. What difference does it make? Lmao at that title change, the defense force wins another battle.
Yamauchi conspired with mother nature for the d-bomb.
Apologies if my comments came across that way - maybe I need a break from this site for a while haha. Hey, if this was causing PS4’s and PS5’s to die on a regular basis, I would be up in arms myself, but it really is a non-issue for me.I was only asking because of your previous question. I was pretty much gonna say what you just said. But it looks you have gone all defensive.
This is a none issue. Of the majority of people who buy a console are casual and will replace their console with the next gen. And like you said PS4 games and beyond will likely be BC.
Doesn't mean it's a good thing though and who ever you are should think of it as a shitty policy.
But just so you know its not just whether the battery needs replacing its about after the battery has been replaced.
Keep fighting the good fight, Jim Ryan appreciates it.+1 for the Defense Force
-1 for the Concern Squad
Someone should take one of those cartridges and convert it into a harmonica.
The difference is that it won't matter how well you take care of your consoles in this case. The hardware may be just fine but you won't be able to play anything on it anyway.Mate, I get what you are saying, but in reality, what is the likelihood of this doomsday event occurring? There's the Smart Delivery too.
Thank god MS would never do anything sneaky...
So you are saying that I won’t be able to get my console repaired and that Sony are definitely going to switch off any access to PS4/PS5 games in the near future? The difference is that it won't matter how well you take care of your consoles in this case. The entire thread was made for the PS5 issue, the Xbox issue is a completely different, its problem is a method of DRM, the PS5 issue is a horrible designed console mechanic where your console turns into a brick if it doesn't know what time it is and can be patched out. Its two completely different problems. Why wouldn't Xbox be included in this discussion? It's not like it doesn't have a similar issue. With that said I don't think either side needs to worry about this.
In the future, couldn't say how long.So you are saying that I won’t be able to get my console repaired and that Sony are definitely going to switch off any access to PS4/PS5 games in the near future?
It's not about what I think. You made a question I answered.Do you think Trophy integrity is worth bricking a console?

Its obvious the Xbox issue was only added to downplay the PS5 issue, SEE XBOX HAS A PROBLEM TOO STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT MY PLAYSTATION!!!
