Hades UK boxed charts - gamepass data not counted

I won't speak for everybody, but if physical is 30% cheaper but Microsoft is offering me 20% off as a GP member, I would sacrifice that additional 10% just for convenience sake

Also more and more people are preferring digital copies. Because it is convenient. Even if it is more expansive or have same price.

Guess what effect additional 20% off for Game Pass members have...

You are right. Even more people flocking to digital.
Idk if yall actually have gamepass but if you do then your statement is saying you wouldn't buy the game during the first month. The discount doesn't apply within the first month for games that launch on gamepass. And even then you can usually find the game on sale cheaper than it is on the Xbox store (For example MLB The Show is 47.99 with the GP discount on the Xbox store but has been on sale shortly after launch for $35 or less physical)

I don't think anyone can convince you otherwise, but it'll be interesting to see if any 3rd party games are announced for Playstation only. My guess is that they will continue to sell on Xbox and it won't be the end of games as we know it.

Googling Xbox Gold subscriber numbers gives me 90Million, and Gamepass gives me 15 Million. If that's anywhere near accurate then gamepass has been adopted by a sixth of Gold subscribers. I know they're not latest figures so take them with a pinch of salt - there's plenty kicking around gamepass topics if you don't have any.
90M might be number of active users in Xbox Live network, it is def not number of active subscribers for XBG Live.

My tears. Exclusive to gamepass. Forever.

90mil gold subs is far from the truth. If that number is accurate in anyway its prob regarding MAU: monthly active users and that can be anything really.

I was speaking in general.

Hades is actually one of those rare instances where the digital copy is cheaper than the physical.

Not where i live. Physical is 8 to 10 times more expensive than digital in almost all cases.

Bro, come on. 93% on Playstation.

Dont tell me gamepass has no effect on retail.
Recently made a thread about Square-Enix results. You should check it out. Retail is ridiculous.

This is an indy game, low price compared to retail, there are going to be like 10 people buying it boxed.

Paying for virtual trophies. Wow.
Buying a game to get achievements. Wow.

Trophies. There is a difference :messenger_winking:

Everyone has their own value system.

Exactly. This game looks like it will be a fun Platinum so I don't mind buying the game twice for that especially for its price point. Platinum adds another challenge element. Why is this hard for someone to understand?

While Spencer doesn't say whether these are boxed or digital sales [...]
And we are done, there is nothing more to add. The whole thread is derailed from a guy banned on Era and now posting on a forum with less strict moderation and it shows.
The whole point was and is tales from his ass.

Dont grab the console war argument. You literally said, Xbox is failing in digital and physical, when we only have % data of physcial in the UK.

I just used your argument against you. Since nintendo is clapping playstation in Japan.

Xbox games will start selling less at retail and digital because MS is actively training users to stick with Game Pass. The UK boxed charts are showing signs of this happening (and yes, this is very limited data but lends credence to this theory regardless) and expect to see this more across all regions if / when we can get data that detailed from other sources. If I'm wrong in a few years and by some miracle sales ratios on third party non-game pass games are very close then feel free to post this thread as a gotcha to anyone who thought this might happen.

And I don't think this is a bad thing for Xbox nor is it doom and gloom. This is merely growing pains as the industry converts to a subscription model. Game sales will start tanking and we won't have any data to show if they are doing good on the subscription because MS / whoever does not have to divulge that information. You can already see this starting to happen in the movie industry with box office results as well.

NPD charts. They include both digital and physical in a big market. Look at the xbox chart. When your number 2 is number 9 in the all platforms and most of your top 5 are barely in the top 20 all platforms chart those numbers aren't high. FS20 didn't even chart on xbox only.

No.1 sold less than 5500 units.
F1 2021 sold 3400 units and charted at No.6.

That means Hades sold roughly 2500 physical units, PS5 has 93% of these :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Congratulations :messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_grinning_sweat:

I would bet that more people played this through GP than those boxed copies sold.

Wail till some of the Multiplattformtitel wont sell there because the Userbase only consumes Gamepass.

I imagine more people bought it on PSN than boxed copies too.

The whole thread is a bit farcical. The ratio difference may mean something, but without all the sales data and understanding of the contract between the publisher and MS for Gamepass, it is pretty much all meaningless speculation.

So just what metric are we able to use for xbox now? Hardware sales dont matter and neither do game sales apparently? So is it subscription numbers and "player numbers"?

How does player numbers tell us anything? What if 80% of those players tried the game and never played it again? they still count as players right?

That's why people keep going on about sales. It's the only true and reliable way of seeing the health of a platform.

Only 4% of Playstation revenue is retail sales. It's basically meaningless.

Another fun fact: only 23% of Playstation revenue is retail + digital sales.

Use revenue. Problem solved. UK boxed charts won't tell you anything about... anything.

100% the only thing this MIGHT tell us is one time Phil Spencer said Gamepass actually drives up game sales and this metric shows us Xbox people are not downloading it via Gamepass loving it and then running out and buying a physical copy (which all this would be pretty dumb anyhow)

I live in NA, but I have it downloaded on game pass. I know that may not be a majority of folks but it certainly could explain the disparity

also isn’t the ps5 just more popular, period, in the Uk?

Shocked Maya Rudolph GIF

Also they've tried to get you to sign in to Xbox account on Win10 and WinPhone to buff up the numbers

Player numbers are buffed up too. You can bet your ass that Microsoft are including anyone that even just boots a game up, plays it for 5 mins and never plays it again. It's a useless metric that tells us absolutely nothing.

It would be like sony including people who try a game through ps now.

You're definitely in the majority. Almost everyone who owns a Series console is also on Gamepass.

People will spend 15$ to play day1 games. People arent like you, who will spend 60-70 day1. Also gamepass is profit business. Or else, MS wouldnt have run this business for 4 years. Yes, Gamepass come out in 2017. And MS didnt turn of the plug. So why would they stop it? Because forum kids told them they arent making money?

Your bet may be correct. And ill bet more people on Xbox rented it on Gamepass overall rather than bought the game (physical + digital). Best value in gaming ect.................. (insert Game pass marketing slogan here)

MS is changing the consumer habits of Xbox users. And its nothing wrong with that. I don't know why people are triggered by these thread. MS is pushing for a subscription model, not actual unit sales. Its their business model :messenger_smirking:

Haha yeah even if that was happening, it wouldn't be likely to happen the week of launch anyway.

thread worthy topic:

Give us numbers.

I can give 8 copies to Playstation users, and 2 copies to xbox users. You will get 80% to 20%.

This pathetic thread had 5k copies as n1 chart. 90% were Playstation users. That how garbage is your % data.

I will say it again. Give us the real numbers of copies sold. If you can't, then your data is worthless.

RE8 top downloads PSN June
Boxed sales in favor of PS (80 to 20%)
4.1 million sold copies after 19 days (ww, across all platforms)

We can estimate all day, ... there were no game releases for the month of feb, march and april (no article on gameindustry.biz). Capcom did not release any up2date number.

Post global or nothing. Its embarrassing clinging to just uk numbers to argue what? Another 3000 units sold ? Lol

Im guessing all those "shrugs" don't help the narrative so they equal "shrugs". Keep fighting, you're really showing those green guys.

Just show the total sales. The low numbers overall is more interesting to me than the console warring thing they are trying.

What is your opinion about game sales when everything is next gen?

Would you buy hitman 4 day1 for 70$? Would you buy re4 remake for 70$?

We are going to a grey area, where games are getting too much expensive.

The difference now is, MS has gamepass, and people would blame them for low sales.

Its already starting now. Are you happy spending that much money day1?

You forgot to include the PC numbers for each game which are close to 0%.
Therefore we can conclude that the PC is a dead platform.

The split for physical and digital aren't going to be much different from each other. The other stuff is basically cope at this point.
116m ps4 + 10m ps5 vs 52m x1 + 6m xseries.

If my math is correct, the person with the highest numbers will win.

If you want to celebrate that, go a head.

How much do you want to do to your data?

Is pc and stadia dead too? Is the rest of the world dead too?

People are buying PS5s and Switchs in droves, so clearly they are willing to spend the money on games they are interested in. The traditional business model of unit sales are here to stay, at least for now. The proof is the data and sales figures from their financials, unlike MS where they have something to hide.

If you have a tight budget, you can just wait for sales to happen. No need to buy it day one.

Also, most big 3rd party games are not coming to Gamepass day one. So your point is not relevant. Xbox users will pay the same amount on most 3rd party games as well, or wait for these games to come to gamepass down the line.

At some point people will admit to the fact that gamepass has created a scenario where less games are being sold on Xbox. It's ironic because a lot of these very same people can't wait to brag about getting games for "free" and the amount of "value" they are getting.

Cognitive dissonance at its fines
What people? On this site? How about you respond to and quote these people directly instead of using a brush the size of Texas to paint everyone into a convenient group to make your point (and perhaps you did as this is page 2).

The games being "free" IS an incredible "value". No need to brag, it's a fact. Don't give a shit how many games are being sold....that's between MS and the developer. Low physical sales on some game pass titles? You don't say? I guess it proves it's working....or not. It doesn't matter as MS can eat the costs right now. Maybe some time in the future Game pass will close and MANY will rejoice. Until then, enjoy this mind boggling value from an industry that typically squeezes every dime they can out of their customers.
