GTA VI on Switch 2 Rumor Thread

This literally proves my point.
Not at all, at this point, Third Party Switch 2 ports are basically selling the same or better than Xbox Series ports… by next year Switch 2 ports are going to sell better on Switch 2 platforms due to a bigger install base 100%. The third parties games doesn't sell well on Nintendo platforms is long gone.

Comparing Switch 2 sales to a struggling Xbox? Beating a dead horse doesn't mean you're making a profit. If a heavy AAA game like Cyberpunk is scraping a single-digit split compared to PC and PS5, the Switch 2 isn't saving anyone's budget. The math hasn't changed.

So a PS3/360 game was a bridge too far but a native PS4/One game like Witcher 3 can get ported? Dude c'mon.
Switch 1 and 2 are apples and oranges when it comes to ease of third-party porting. There are potentially billions to be made there and given the relative proximity to Series S and performance, it's hard to imagine Take2 will leave that on the table.

Thats another topic… But is a fact that the Switch 2 is going to take the Xbox Series position when it comes to third party sales. So, after the PS5… The Switch 2 is going to be or it's at this moment the second most important platform for third parties.

Crazy prediction... I think that Rockstar is going to Shadow drop RDR2 for Switch 2 this year... And probably close to November.

Even if it ends up being a 600p LOD abortion, I just can't see the Switch 2 and Series S being that similar in terms of pixel pushing without getting a serious effort from Take2. Imagine lifetime sales of GTA VI on Switch 2 following Nintendo's discount philosophy. Attach rate would go crazy. With all these devs out of work, I'm thinking they pull it off around the time of the PC and GTAO launch.

Nah. RDR2 will coincide with the "enhanced edition" on PS5/Xbox/PC as well.

They're not going to cannibalize that. It's coming, but not in the same month as the biggest game event in history from them.

100% is going to have better IQ than the Series S version, no matter if the input resolution is lower…

the game is designed around raytraying, lower input res means lower RT quality. if they cut the internal res from say 900p on Series S to something like 540p on Switch 2 Docked mode, you'll see extremely grainy lighting (Star Wars already struggled with this at 720p internal).

then handheld mode would need to drop this probably to something like 360p 😬😬😬

But for something like Grand Theft Auto x Nintendo, Nvidia is gonna send their guys to figure it out I think. Too much at stake.

there's no secret sauce anymore, there's nothing to figure out.
those days are long gone.

all you can do on Switch 2 is lower the settings, lower the resolution, cut the framerate in half, and then use DLSS to improve the image quality.

there's not much more in the cards.

if they wanted to make a good looking Switch 2 port of GTA6, they'd need to replace their RT GI with maybe a coarser probe based solution, and turn off RT reflections fully, only use SSR and dynamic cubemaps (or best case only the dynamic cubemaps tbh)

but the next issue after that is the game size, which seems to come in at 200GB 😵‍💫 which is already insane on a PS5 and Series X... and super insane on a Series S.
on Switch 2, that is a HYPER INSANE size.

so they'd probably have to downsize it as too. lower texture resolution dramatically, reduced audio quality, maybe if any of the lighting is baked they'd have to reduce the quality of that as well.

It depends how integral the ray tracing is. Knowing they had to get it on Series S, I bet they're saved the heavy RT for next gen anyways. We still don't know how big the downgrade on PS5/XS is yet either. I think Rockstar games are usually pretty lean for what they are. I think GTA VI on Switch 2 would be less miraculous than GTA V on PS3

if the raytraced is indeed not integral, then a Switch 2 version is very possible.

given the file size, I could actually see them baking a lot of the GI...

If this is real, and I actually believe it's really coming, then it'll give a killer blow to the anti third-party support bias against Nintendo hardware in the gaming industry. The "Nintendo don't need third-party support" sayers will have a very hard time.

🔥LEAK EXPRESS: I can CONFIRM that work is being done on a port of GTA VI for SWITCH 2

I hadn't spoken much about it, I had to be prudent until now, plus I can comment that:
-The game's delay is not due to this version
-It seems it won't arrive at launch

in my opinion it's not if but when it'll look like trash and run at 30 frames but it's coming

A pinch of motion blur. A dash of DLSS. And a spoonful of sugar!

Most people don't buy Nintendo consoles to play downgraded 3rd party ports. A massive Nintendo console install base sounds great on paper but the attach rate for heavy 3rd party AAA games is generally poor. Sales data and publisher reports have reflected that for years. I'm not coming up with something new here guys.
That is not an answer to the question. We are talking ROI here.

How much to port the game to switch 2. The math is super easy here for a game company to make money, on a port, especially one with a rapidly growing instal base.

5 million? 10 million? 20? I am being extremely generous here, as I dont think it costs a fraction of what I've stated.

If I had to make a simple guess about what total sales of a port of GTA could do on switch 2, I would start at the ridiculously low estimate of 1 million copies. At 70$, and taking away more then half, thats between 25-30 million easy fun bucks.

My guess is, much like other "impossible ports", the game is closer to the other consoles then warriors would like to admit, amd it seems a hell of a lot more then just a million copies. A faithful version of the game, this game, on the go, is going to have serious appeal.

Again I ask, what is the cost of porting the game onto the switch 2.

Well S2 has more ram than XSS so technically it should be possible and relatively easy.

And it would confirm them targeting 60fps on Zen 2 consoles with a 30fps Switch 2 version.

Eventually I can see this version selling more than on Xbox so it's financially sound.

GTA6 is running on Series S already… Have you seen Series S vs Switch 2 comparisons? Especially for open world games…. Also, the Switch 2 is going to have a bigger install base than the Xbox Series when the Switch 2 version comes out. Is simple logic and a bit of 🔮.
Bro, we cant even get 3rd trailer from rockstar even tho they opened preorders, which once again will likely have 0 actual gameplay, series s version right now might be sub 720p and running at below cinematic framerate for all we know, bugged to hell and back too.

Hell who knows maybe rockstar delays game once again to spring 2027, every day w/o proper gameplay trailer makes it more probable and lets not forger there is less than 5 months left...

What im trying to say, we are sitting in total darkness even when it comes to xsx/ps5/pr0 versions, not to mention gimped series s version however nasty its gonna look and run :messenger_astonished:

RDR2 runs at 30fps and 720p on the switch 1
You mean RDR; and when they say "max resolution and frame rate" I think they mean in comparison to the original 360 version. Meaning it runs at 1080p 30 which is what the 360 and PS3 couldn't even do.

All in all, Switch clearly could run GTA5, but I think it was the logistics of getting the online version added as yet another SKU to support is what held them back from porting it.
